- just a quick video testing the WD-20 with a 10" Skywatcher Quattro and looking at the results in PHD. The scope is 1m long and weighs 18kg with the accessories and dovetail - so a great challenging test for the might WD-20 under less than ideal Bortle 7 sky with poor seeing.

Awesome test. I have an RC truss 10" (19kg total of accessories) and I'm interested in this mount. My RC is 180mm from the dovetail bar to the telescope center and I was wondering if this mount would hold up
Your 10” RC should be fine as my 10” newt has a similar distance from the dovetail in terms of the centre of mass. My scope is a very similar weight and probably a similar length, possibly a little longer. I have an 8” RC, but not had a chance to test it yet. Will be interested to see how it handles the longer focal length. That said lukomatic apparently uses a C11 on an AM5 with no issues.
Thanks for testing. I would like to see this mount with a C8 SCT, OAG and main camera, imaging at 1442mm and 2032mm. I would like to see the guiding performance. All reviews of strain waves seem to be refractors.
Looks fantastic. Im in the process of buying one for my 65phq and 107phq scopes as an upgrade from my old mounts, this is very encouraging
I've had my little 72mn FRA400 as low as 0.25" on one night for about 30-40 mins, so the mount is certainly capable enough when conditions allow.
@@astrotube3967 Im currently using the 65PHQ on an Avalon Instruments M-Zero, and I've seen guiding as good as 0.45", which is fantastic when I'm imaging at 2.29" per pixel!, however the mount will not hold the next scope I want to purchase, being either the 107PHQ or potentially the 130PHQ, so unfortunately the beautiful Avalon mount will have to find a new home in the not too distant future..
Hello. I am seriously considering by 2000mm HD11 weighing about 16 kg.
As I pointed out to someone else, it seems that the HAE69EC with EC installed would be preferable for imaging at 2000mm. Could I get your opinion on this?
It’s a hard one to call. I’ve seen a few complaints about the HAE69 having a bit of backlash due to the belt. Obviously the WD-20 is direct drive so has no belts. In terms of the encoder on the RA, it’s alway great to have an encoder as it allows for longer 2-3s guide pulses which help with seeing, but multi star guiding helps with that anyway. For me me I don’t think the extra 40% (2k) price increase is justified. I think it’s a rip off as you can get Renishaw absolute encoders for about 1k, and the EC is not using an absolute encoder.
These new strain wave mounts are incredibly good. With 30lbs, my am5 does .3 on crystal clear nights and .5 on average nights. That mount you have is even better.....enjoy and thanks for sharing.
I'm hoping to get the 40lb load of the Quattro down under 0.4 with multi-star guiding and a faster guide rater
Sir is this wd 20 is good for c11 for watch mars with 2x or 4x powermates , and imaging too
Hi the mount can certainly handle the size and weight of the C11 as it's shorter and lighter than my 10" newt, but i'm not sure how it would handle the long focal length. Once you start getting above 1500-2000mm F/L then i'm not sure a Harmonic mount would be the best option. For Similar money i would be looking at either a CEM70 or an EQ8 as being better options. I see some users with C9.25" have been getting around 0.6" RMS when guiding at the native 2350mm F/L but at 5600mm then i think it would struggle. Imaging at F20 (5600mm) would need a high end mount to get the best results. I'm not a planetary imager, but i know a lot of planetary imager are using high end mounts with encoders. So for visual it would be fine, but for Imaging it wouldn't be my choice, especially not at the focal lengths you want to use.
Looking at purchasing the WarpAstron (or NYX-101) and I have a 10" newton which is a little under 16kg (I think) with everything. Looks like you have a counterweight attached for 18.5kg, would I need one? Thank you for posting.
Hi Brad, technically you don’t need a counterweight, but if you are using on a tripod, then a counterweight is recommended for balance so as not to tip the tripod, however you can just use a tripod hammock instead and fill it with rocks.
@@astrotube3967 hammock sounds good loaded with my EQG counter weights.
Yeah it’s also great if you can save a bit of money and reuse kit you already have. I used an old azgti bar and modified an existing iOptron counterweight, so cost me £5 to add my counterweight.
seems like pretty good guiding for such a large scope
I'm hoping that with Multi-star enabled that it might lower it. Still have a bit more testing to do.

Hi Cuiv. No it's an issue with phd2 that I need to look at. If I start phd2 manually then it never works but if I launch guiding via Nina it works perfectly. The option is ticked, so need to do some troubleshooting.
