(this is a million years late) So AFI went into this trying to make an actual "HARDCORE" record compared to their "punk" records. You can see this refelected in the leaving song part 2 music video.
This sounds a lot closer to Art of Drowning than Sing the Sorrow. Never heard this and I like the sound, but I think that the chorus is better on StS even if I like hearing Davey go old school with his singing.
WOW--you're all right, the chorus had my heart stop with adoration.... Whenever I hear things like this it is not always possible to wring the longing out of my throat.
i cant believe i havent heard this! i have the STS album and the song kicks ass but this..its got a more AOD sound, i guess cuz its a raw sound more than a more sofisticated and elaborated sound, very cool
I think it has more of an AoD sound because this is before Davey had to dramatically change his singing style. I think it was 2003 or 2004 when they had to cancel part of their tour due to his vocal issues and surgery. If you hear his screams, they're very much like earlier AFI work. The album's version... they aren't. Not sure the dates of recording or how it turned out the way it did, but his vocals in this sound like it could have been recorded during or near AoD sessions. From StS onward, his vocals haven't been the same. Not complaining, but stating the facts. Not even sure what happened to his voice, but I know his singing style took its toll on him eventually. I don't know how it didn't give out sooner... You can hear the change in how he sang certain songs by 2003 in live performances, too... just a different style.
Although, I'll say this much- the 2003 performance for MTV that was supposed to be a CD but never became one... he sounds killer during Death of Seasons, and I'm not a big fan of that style of screaming. He basically is at his peak there, though...
@@newdlesN00dles I defy you to find it.... The only demos to ever see the light of day were recorded before Ric Rubin worked on the final STS sessions for the album. Those demos, if you include 336 which Ernst also recorded (note: he did not work on the final album sessions or cuts), then you've got Reiver's Music, Now the World, The Great Disappointment, This Celluloid Dream, ...but Home is Nowhere, The Leaving Song, and I would say it would be fair to count or include Synthesisia in this as well, especially considering like Now the World it was even part of those re-recordings and appeared on the UK Edition, too. Now one thing I will say... listening to the Ernst demos and final cuts, there are moments where other than just some degradation to the demo quality and volume difference, it is going to not sound identical even if it is, and some o the demos take on all new life such as Paper Airplanes... But based o just how similar some of the final cuts sound and even at points, line up with the demos Ernst recorded with them, I question if they did not use a lot of those tracks and then overdub, clean things up, etc.... but in the process didn't completely bury that mix, either. Like a fossilized remain with a touch of gloss. I go back and forth with those demos and the final cuts as to which I prefer more all of the time, and I think part of it is because some bits are just so similar to me... But unless you're speaking of the Live at Hard Rock cafe CD or something, and they were playing STS songs at that gig pre-release, I don't know of any "demos" out there or ever in circulation to date other than those I named. I would bet anything on it, but love to be wrong.... I just know what leaked. I don't count 100 Words, and definitely don't count Carcinogen Crush. I wish that we would get to see more STS rereleases as a whole, just a reissue with the same songs the UK version got would be grand, but there's a reason why AFI never releases demos or many b-sides from some of these older albums.... Nitro has some locked up. The whol Dreamworks thing was a disaster, and the music from the STS era they may not even own entirely.... The chances of seeing those demos and outtakes people smoke of, the 50-100 each or wharever crazy numbers were tossed out, are probably not going to get to hear any of them due to record companies and bad advisement at points from AFI's management.... The only way we'll hear these songs is if Jade leaks them way down the road or something and that's my honest belief. Until then, they're as rare or rarer than the recording of Ronnie is a Rebel/Ronnie II that I think Geoff finally leaked some of, or a soundboard maybe trickled out, I dunno. But if you hacve these demos and aren't confusing them with early live tracks maybe.... please share or let me know how in the world I find out about something an entire community ha no idea exists. I was mistaking about thinking I had heard Dancing Through Sunday in demo form; I had a bootleg of the CD in poor quality, so in my brain I had thought maybe I did hear other demos but I think it was just me wanting to believe... but hey- if you can show me them..... I won't complain one bit and thank you 10x over...
I like the album version more especially since the album has Davey's infamous "Oh" in the beginning but I love how here he sings the chorus the chorus is better here than the album imo too bad there not a better quality demo version.
If you noticed during God Called In Sick concert the chorus isn't sang in the "angry growl" wa is was now tis higher because it easier on his voice otherwise if he kept scremaing he would ruined he's been screaming for many years and its harder for him to now but he still screams during concert.
the bbc/demo version is way better an that's hard to say but everything afi puts out is the greatest even there covers are better then the the o.g an that's hard to do but afi can do it
In concert he still does that brutal screaming sometimes but its not as constant. Like he doens't do it on God Called In sick today anymore because that would strain his vocals to sing the entire chorus but he'll do it on a few lyrics here and there. think about when he does Death Of Season that brutal screaming at the end must hurt his throat.
i swear davey seems like a completely different person. it's almost a shame cuz imo the best of AFI is long behind us. This will always be one of my favorite albums of all time. Actual perfection in my eyes. Also you can hear the art of drowning vocals in this demo especially at the end. It's pretty cool.
yes...record companies suck. You ever noticed that when you buy an album from any particular band there is always one song that never got radio play that is leaps above anything they let you hear?
Well, 'The Days of the Phoenix' *was* played on the radio when it was released. Albeit, not as much as Miss Murder, but it was still in occasional rotation. Sing the Sorrow's singles had more frequent airplay and that wasn't particularly a radio-friendly album aside from a few songs.
That nitro sound was still lingering
im noticing that the demos
seem more hardcore
like
STS was very different from AFIs work
and
the demos are pretty close to the older stuff

Nothing about this is hardcore.
LAND! AS LIGHTLY! AS TEH SNOW!

loooove this!
amazing.
i like in the video the like faint image of the leaves... =]
wow ,,,really good ,, i love this song and i love ,,the symbol the fallen leaves ..wow,, it's amazing ..
the drums sound pretty slick
WOW--you're all right, the chorus had my heart stop with adoration.... Whenever I hear things like this it is not always possible to wring the longing out of my throat.
longing in your... throat?
2007? Early upload. Love this song
wow ,,, the faint imagine is really good ... i love this image ,,, too ,,the imagine ,,black sails in the sunset ,,,
That's cool. Thanks for sharing it. :D
I'm glad that they changed it to how it sounds on the album, though.
i love how he screamed in the chorus
So cool
sounds more raw. i like it.
i cant believe i havent heard this! i have the STS album and the song kicks ass but this..its got a more AOD sound, i guess cuz its a raw sound more than a more sofisticated and elaborated sound, very cool

sounds like it couldve been a b side on art of drowning
this is awesome. those drums sound so raw
godly band
Love it
se oye chida¡¡¡AMO AFI!!!

I think it was on the The Leaving Song Pt. II single.
this sounds hella better then the album version.
Just raise the guitar amp and leave the drums like this. Really cool demo.
fuckin love the course...
There was a video of this song in which some puppets made of stockings appeared. Will anyone have it?
I agree
i die 4 this song
I'm glad they changed the chorus. This one doesnt sound as good as the album one. Howver DEMOS>Stuido Albums
this version has much more strenght than the one of the cd
nah just a demo that was on one of the singles.
I love when davey goes to his black sails voice and doesn't moan in the first 10 seconds
If you noticed during God Called In Sick concert the chorus isn't sang in the "angry growl" wa is was now tis higher because it easier on his voice otherwise if he kept scremaing he would ruined he's been screaming for many years and its harder for him to now but he still screams during concert.
well, it is a demo
the bbc/demo version is way better an that's hard to say but everything afi puts out is the greatest even there covers are better then the the o.g an that's hard to do but afi can do it
way better then the sing the sorrow version but I still miss dork

Well in my opinion, they went a bit mainstream in sing the sorrow, and this is a demo for sing the sorrow, so it is kinda mainstream.
Does anybody know where these demo songs are but in super ultra Hi-Fy?
they were b sides on european singles.
i swear davey seems like a completely different person. it's almost a shame cuz imo the best of AFI is long behind us. This will always be one of my favorite albums of all time. This song does not touch the album version. The album version is SO much better in all aspects.
much better than the actual recording.
I prefer this to the studio version. I think over-produced studio recordings absolutely murder the whole sound and emotion in music.
yes...record companies suck. You ever noticed that when you buy an album from any particular band there is always one song that never got radio play that is leaps above anything they let you hear?
Thank god they polished this song up, especially the chorus, I don't think that the chorus sounds good while yelled.
I don't like AFI New songs they changed so there songs would be played on the radio. Their old songs are way better!!!!!!!!!

they never changed to "be on the radio". you obviously know nothing about AFI.
