Prince Rupert Awakes
Farewell the temple master's bells
His kiosk and his black worm seed
Courtship solely of his word
With Eden guaranteed
For now Prince Rupert's tears of glass
Make saffron sabbath eyelids bleed
Scar the sacred tablet of wax
On which the Lizards feed
Wake your reason's hollow vote
Wear your blizzard season coat
Burn a bridge and burn a boat
Stake a Lizard by the throat
Go Polonius or kneel
The reapers name their harvest dawn
All your tarnished devil's spoons
Will rust beneath our corn
Now bears Prince Rupert's garden roam
Across his rain tree shaded lawn
Lizard bones become the clay
And there a swan is born
Wake your reason's hollow vote
Wear your blizzard season coat
Burn a bridge and burn a boat
Stake a Lizard by the throat
Gone soon Piepowder's moss-weed court
Round which upholstered Lizards sold
Visions to their leaden flock
Of rainbows' ends and gold
Now tales Prince Rupert's peacock brings
Of walls and trumpets thousand fold
Prophets chained for burning masks
And reels of dreams unrolled...
Fun fact, this song was given a Japanese version that was used in the Movie Trilogy of Mobile Suit Gundam, that has been given many renditions of over the past several decades. Known as "Beginning" by Daisuke Inoue. Might want to give that a listen. Also there is an english translation of that song composed by Andrew W.K. from his Japanese album "Gundam Rock" that does it's best to translate what is being said in Japanese.

to add to reverb's links here is another version from the Gundam 40th Anniversary Album:

:') so God exists.
If I’m not mistaken the Japanese version was also in the original series.
Thanks for the tip
Jon Anderson!!! 😍🙏👍👏🏻
Hear, hear; "our singer is kinda shite, for this track let's get somebody who kicks ass"
Yep...Just perfect
Amuro, i can see time!
"This Anderson guy can really sing, think I'll join the band." -- Bill Bruford
Bruford was with Yes and then moved to Crimson.
@@paulwalsh8849 iwgs it's Rupert as opposed to bruford. Jon-mate is fuckin slick: "oh, current non-Greg sucks then? I'm with ya lads with love and understanding in the damn universe"
He was already a part of Yes in 1970.
Hilarious, well done.
STAKE A LIZARD BY THE THROAT 🦎🦎🦎🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️
PETA Police are coming after Frippinator.
Gundam moment
Jon Anderson just spoke of KC in an interview about seeing them perform In The Court of The Crimson King...he turned to Chris Squire and said “We’ve got to rehearse more”!
To me they did more than KC
@@sulosulo9022 you missed my point. I wasn’t saying one did more than the other. Just that Jon Anderson was highly motivated by King Crimson to do great music.
@@kookoothebirdgirl1 sure sure ^_^
^^
@@sulosulo9022 haven't done a good album in years. King Crimson outdo themselves with every recording.
Such an underrated album
Gundam brought me here. Love both this and the homage that is "Beginning"

何十年ぶりに聴きたくなりました。やっぱりいいね。神秘的で美しい曲。ジョン アンダーソンの声がぴったり!
One of the best albums and songs from 70’s!
Farewell, Keith Tippett
Great musician.....RIP
Such an iconoclasm, such greatness, such an improbable cosmic landscape full of darkness, light, fear and wonder and above all mystery, with rehearsals that plunge you into a trance followed by sudden changes that wake you up, your eyes googly and quivering eyebrows. I have listened to this from time to time since 50 years and I still hear new subtleties!
Oh shit I have this on cassette, Fripp and Jon-mate outta sight
Well said
I love the fact that I can hear the slight crackle of the vinyl LP. This is the way I remember listening to this album...with headphones, of course! Peace...Jeff T. PGH PA USA
This was my first experience with King Crimson in 1970. Wearing out my older brother's LP and tripping out on the cover art and lyrics. I wasn't even getting high then but I tripped out nonetheless. Peter Sinfield is a master lyricist, especially during that golden age.
My favourite chorus ever
Same! This song stands on it's own.
JUST FANTASTIC, BEAUTIFUL VOICE, BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL SOUNDS FROM INSTRUMENTS.
I was brought here after learning about prince rupert drops. Science as a gateway to music, fun!
if you didnt know already this is just a small segment of a longer song called "lizard". its 23 minutes long but its still a worth while listen. (also hearing about prince ruperts drop reminded me of this song which led me to listen to it rn)
@@6126OO thanks for tge heads up, I'll go check them out now!!!!❤❤❤
Gordon Haskell
R.I.P.
Although Gordon Haskels vocals are featured on almost every track on this album, this particular section is actually performed by Jon Andersson of Yes.
そして時がすこーやかにー
I had the vinyl...When CDs raised I disposed of many vinyls..Crazy, man,,,
Welcome to the club of broken hearts
this has been up so long i don't think fripp cares
A memory of spring reaching the peak of its thickest promise, magic, and romance: orchestras of tiny fantastic creatures play enchanting symphonies in the crowns of trees with the lushest foliage of green, to console forlorn lovers strolling at dusk. Street lamps against the backdrop of sapphire sky succumbing to the night in late May.
Ethereal magic.... I never tire of Lizard 🦎....
One of their best work. Superb.
Disco meraviglioso...............e se a dirlo è un amante dell' heavy metal è tanta roba
Masterpiece !
This song is so cool!
Get Fripp’d.... or don’t?
The best song
Best part of the song
Remembering Gordon Haskell born on April 27, 1946.He was an English musician and songwriter. Haskell gained recognition as bass player for the Fleur de Lys in 1966, and subsequently spent a short period in King Crimson. He sang on the album In the Wake of Poseidon (1970), and sang and played bass on Lizard (1971). - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Haskell
Thanks for that. Thank you Gordon!
The Greg Lake replacement guy? I remember a couple rockin Fleur de lys songs
@@flannigan7956 No such thing as a "Greg Lake Replacement!" King Crimson was at their very best when Greg Lake was a member of the band!

Good stuff
Cool, Gundam fans, welcome to King Crimson. ❤
Legendary
at la, st ! someone who can recognise the special etherial ,exploration of archytypes and their implications, and more.this was played after returning from al stewart at cousins, london on new years day,1971.me and friends were transfixed by its filmic sinister nature .the ist two were excellent, but lizard surpassed them. then,in keeping with the creeping dumb down that the 70s brought, the group became a very good jazz rock techo enterprise, but without sinfield that magic was lost.the lp gives me images of bosch, brughel the elder, and a sense of weirdness and alienation. i went last year to aldburgh where pete sinfield lives/lived and which has a very good but eerie atmosphere, being near rendelsham forest.
Maravillosa pieza
robert may not like it but i loved lizard
Impressionant. És com una película en petit. Em transporta a un época llunyana...
Adoro aquesta cançó
very very well...............................

Is this King Crimson? Yes
Yes ORA ORA ORA
Gundam song
no
@@cybertronian2005 it is, watch the credits of the 3rd gundam movie, its a cover of the original song
@@_MARC0_40 yeah, a Gundam song copied the melody but this is a King Crimson song originally, not a Gundam song in conception

it makes me so....whatever..apparently there is a new cd. version of ''lizard' compltely bowlderised and rearranged by some person something wilson, not only was he not there to hear the almost life changing effect that i talk of in my comment by ''keith chiv' below, bit he seems to think i his patronising way that he s enlightening us to ''yerr a bit ovv prog ,innit ! so, mr, wilson. dont try and change what you were not a part of,and can never understand.
Would Jon mate reject knighthood dubbing
La mera pirinola krimson
Why claps?
Crimson turns into the Bee Gees !! 😄😉🎶
Well, lol, you have a point. For myself I love this but the electric piano riff that leads to the chorus makes me cringe. Five notes that I could do without.
@@Tregrense Hey I Love the Lizard album also, I'm 66' now and I remember when it came out with my older Brother playing it and it took me a few times to like it. And when seeing the 7-8 lineup Crimson Live in 2014' to 2019' when they play "Circus" and "The Lizard Suite" Live it's just Amazing !! I suggest the Live CD (Live in Chicago) they play both and 9 others from their Classic Prog era and more it's a great Live show ! 👍🎶🎼✌
@@Tregrense It's on Crimson YT site.
BUT THIS IS SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM JON OF "YES" ... IN CASE OF YES ANDERSON IS A INVENTED? SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO THIS? HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE TWO ANDERSON? IS THE WARRIORS AND THE YES?
I love that you can hear his original lower register! It motivates me because I'm training my voice to go higher as well :) I know I won't quite sound like Jon though, nobody else could!
@@Cobalt985 I don't have the ear or when he went higher, whether or not on 69 and time-and-a-word's. On a one hand if you're hand picked by Fripp for an album track you need to blast on it, but I also always think of Jon-mate standing in studio door. Jon go easy on em!
Sry but Daisuke Inoues for Gundam is way better
