Julia McKenzie has nothing to worry about her interpretation of Miss Marple. She is delightful, charming, her diction perfect. She would have pleased Agatha Christie for sure. Miss Marple was Agatha Christie's favourite character, one can easily understand why. Thanks Miss McKenzie and I don't forget the wonderful actresses and actors around her, great names of the theatre and the silver screen, so dear to us all.
I have been a huge fan of Julia McKenzie for forty years. Such a sweet person. Not only is she a great actor, but her singing voice is (was?) simply fantastic.
I must admit, I love all the Marples, they are all so different, it keeps you on your toes, Joan Hickson was very much the head mistress of a school, Geraldine McKeon was slightly wild and eccentric and Now Julie McKensie is a very warm and kind maiden aunt. Who could ever forget Margaret Rotherford and her larger than life portrayal, they all bring something different to the character, which I love.... thank you for interview!
"Joan Hickson was very much the head mistress of a school, Geraldine McKeon was slightly wild and eccentric and Now Julie McKensie is a very warm and kind maiden aunt." You described it perfectly! Though I confess my favourite is McEwan :)
She reminds me of a sweet wee granny, you just want to give her a big hug! not only that but she's still got a fiery determination when she's on the case! Perfect match for Marple!
Julia is really wonderful....superb actress and fabulous singer!! I found an album of songs from "The King and I" from 2015. Julia sang the most beautiful interpretation of "Hello Young Lovers" that I have ever heard.....absolute perfection! It was as though the song had been written for her mature "today" voice. The lady has still got it!
I have just realized that this Julia McKenzie is the same Julia McKenzie who was the voice for Ariadne Oliver in the BBC radio dramatisation (Dead Man's Folly, Elephants Can Remember). I simply love her voice. Very cheerful and alive, especially when she's excited 😊💜
The character is capable of many interpretations. Why not just enjoy the variety without trying to say one is better than the other? It's not a contest.
Well, Mrs. Christie started that „competition“ herself by bashing Rutherford and being rather cattish about the film adaptations of her novels. Rutherford was my favourite and I think Christie was being ridiculous...and rude. 🙄😏 Only after her death did she finally realize how famous she had actually made her and dedicated a book to her. Talk about self-centeredness...
Love love Julia McKenzie. Such a Beautiful and talented actor. A joy to watch anything she's in. Grew up watching French Fields and now just watched another wonderful old sitcom called Maggie and Her staring Julia and Irene Handl on You tube.
I think that Julia McKenzie might be the definitive Miss Marple from what I know of the books. I imagine that Miss Marple would look very much like Julia and would have her demeanour as well. However, I prefer the episodes with Geraldine McEwan as the scripts and the overall casts seem to be more colourful and interesting that the McKenzie ones
I read that Geraldine McEwan retired from the role because when she was filming Ordeal by Innocence she has broke her hip so announced their retirement.
I loved Julia as Miss Marple most, I thought her interpretation was authentic and more palatable/ likeable than the earlier actresses who I thought were a little too harsh and bitchy. Julia's depiction of Marple is a character id love to have tea with ❤
I think Julia did Miss Marple good, but there's just something so nice and soothing about Geraldine McEwan playing that role - she's the best Miss Marple!
Ms McKenzie is so sweet, but my, has she suddenly aged. It seems only yesterday she starred in Side by Side by Sondheim or was a beautiful Sally in Follies. Oh well, I guess it's just me getting old, wanting everything to stay as it was.
i LOVE Miss Marple. Poirots too annoying and arrogant. I love how everyone usually patronises Marple and when they eventually let her speak she bowls em all over by solving the case!!! 4.50 from paddinton is my favourite.
The perverted loves since in this socalled Miss Marple series were not in the books. Agatha Christie did write like that. The Joan Hickson series was far better.
@susuemikado YES! Totally agree with you.....I think when Julie joined they changed the setting and style of Marple to being a lot duller and darker. The Gereldine ones were waaaaay more colourful, exciting and dramatic. In my opinion Gereldine was MUCH BETTER than Julie. When Julie sits in a room you don't even notice her amoungst the other characters....she has no presence which Gereldine did. And I find that Julie is TOO NICE, and drippy wheras Gereldine had a big spark!! Miss Gereldine.
Julia Mckenzie is FAR better than Geraldine Mcewan. She was completely unsuitable for the role of Miss Marple, too cold for my liking. But nobody will top Joan Hickson.

Sean O'Laoghaire plus Angela Lansbury in film roles!

BRAVO.

C'est ma préférée cette Miss Marple
Julia McKenzie comes very close to my personal imagination of Miss Marple. She played her very well in 'pocketful of rye'.
Julia McKenzie the best Miss Marple
Julia is the best Miss Marple
it's funny I loved Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple but Julie McKenzie has grown on me
Geraldine McEwan is miss Marple. Julie McKenzie 2nd
Lovely lady!
Luv her
Julia is a treasure

Julia is and always has been a sweetheart.

I've seen her only in Crandord as Mrs Forrester n she was sooo sweet in that and she also sang one song in Return to Cranford. I adore her ❤😊

She is the best Miss Marple.
2nd best after Geraldine McEwan
I loved Julia as Miss Marple most, I thought her interpretation was authentic and more palatable/ likeable than the earlier actresses who I thought were a little too harsh and bitchy. Julia's depiction of Marple is a character id love to have tea with ❤
I love Geraldine McEwan but julie McKenzie 2nd
Lovely sweet lady!
Yes, she has a warmth, other Marples didn`t have!
Matthew McFayden!!! I've got to watch me some pocket full of rye!
I think Julia did Miss Marple good, but there's just something so nice and soothing about Geraldine McEwan playing that role - she's the best Miss Marple!

I think she's good as Miss Marple but Geraldine McEwan is just adorable!
Julia's fine, but Joan Hickson's my favourite and I love David Suchet as Poirot.
Hicks is horrible
When was she talking about the crew? I highly doubt she's cold towards the crew!
i LOVE Miss Marple. Poirots too annoying and arrogant. I love how everyone usually patronises Marple and when they eventually let her speak she bowls em all over by solving the case!!! 4.50 from paddinton is my favourite.
Her tongue was firmly in her cheek!!!
Wish she could play ms. Pollifax.

She is 70 or around there!

Hickory is bad

Hickory was awful

My favorite is Joan Hickson too.
I Luke this mrs Marple but i find she is not so gold how the old mrs marple
Agatha Christie chose Joan Hickson to play Miss Marple and she was far better than Julia McKenzie.
They all bring something special to the role
she hasnt filled mcewans boots for me
Not a good Series. Try to follow the books. Instead we get lame social commentary. The series with Joan Hickson was far better. These are terrible
Totally disagree. This series is much better in my opinion.
I agree. I didn't like Joan Hickson's portrayal of Miss Marple. She made her too cold.
@@nicoleradcliffe5048 hickory was awful
Totally disagree with you. Julia is fantastic, in my opinion
