The GMB interview with Ed Balls & Co. Very very enlightening. I was digested by it. That was racism right there, on screen. I could not believe that all the presenters and guest speakers were all laughing at the MP’s distress concerning the racism riots.

It's an example of middle class pearl clutching, used as a substitute for any appropriate response. It's essentially an attempt to divert the course of the conversation, encouraging the accused to defend themselves on the charge rather than addressing the issue.
All the poor journalists I'm aware of indulge in it. Journalists with ability who have done their research don't need it. All it really says is that Balls is an idiot of low ability whose only recourse when found out is to gaslight, interrupt and prevent discussion. It's UK journalism 101 I'm afraid.
