    For just a hole or two, I use a post-it note. Before pulling it off the stack, I fold the paper up along the bottom edge of the sticky strip, then peel the post-it off the stack. With the Post-it folded in a V shape, I stick the post-it note to the wall, just below where the hole is going to be drilled, then fold the paper part out a bit. And after the hole is drilled, fold the paper back up, which knocks the dust down to the crease, kind of pinch both ends of the crease and peel the dust taco off the wall and toss it.

    Nice tip. I use an envelope, with the same kind of tape. Also if possible a vacuumcleaner at the same time. Works great, for decades now.

    Great idea. Never thought of using a plate. I used to tape the side of a 5# paper bag below where I was going to drill. That worked great too.

    For a hole like that use a Sticky Note. Fold a tight and sharp 90° at the glue strip, flush it on the wall, and drill away. You can also fold the sticky note edges like a container, then do as above. Less foam waste

    I have used other methods but they require one hand told the "catch pan" and the drill driver on the other. This tip has a great advantage, being hands free. That is great as you can focus on having the drill at the correct angle.

    I was perplexed by your statement, _"You cannot use the drywall jab saw on plaster walls."_ I thought drywall and plaster were the same thing, but looking up plaster, I see it is something different. I have mistakenly used that word to refer to drywall and my meaning was understood, but I'll try to remember not to call it that anymore. _"It's as simple as that. No mess,"_ until you trip on something on your way to the trash can because you were concentrating on the mess in the plate, being careful not to spill it. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 *DOH!!!* But seriously, great tip, Scott!

    You and your new-fangled plastic foam plates. In my day we cut down an empty cereal box to make a big debris tray. Or held up a taping knife if you're truly frugal.

    Take a piece of paper, fold two corners to the middle and overlap, tape the middle to hold the folds together, and now tape the unfolded strait section to the wall. Should look like a |=>. Much easier than half a plate and can be easily reused too. Use painters tape, of course.

  • @Kineth1
    @Kineth1 Год назад +2

    I already do this when installing Google fiber. Skip the plate. Place a strip of masking/painter's tape on the wall below your intended hole in a "v" shape, keep the upper edge of the tape off the wall, then add another strip of tape to extend your tape shelf, sticky side up. Drill/cut with care not to spray debris everywhere, then slowly peel the tape off and roll it up. No mess, no plate, no scissors, and having the tape sticky side up helps keep the dust/debris from spilling off.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  Год назад

      I know that method I prefer mine. Using the plate is much more rigid than using a v-shaped piece of paper. You also have the rim of the plate that prevents anything from falling off the edge. Thanks for watching

    I do enough of this type of work to justify buying Milwaukee’s air-tip dust collection vacuum attachment. It suctions to the wall and catches the dust. Model # 49-90-2022.

    Awesome tip brother. Happy new year to you and here's a video-making tip from me: turn _off_ the auto-exposure on your camera when you're recording yourself indoors. Pick an exposure (and focus - auto-focus is a demon as well) each time for whatever setting you're in and stick with it. Every time you moved your hands in and out of frame the camera did an auto-adjust to compensate for the diminished light and I don't think you expected that or are aware of it. Sorry for the nitpick - happy new year man!

      I saw that after processing. The white balance adjustment cause a halo effect on the white wall. I wasn't happy about it either.
