I recently switched from the Sony FX30 to the LUMIX S5ii. I'm glad I did. I think the LUMIX colors are more accurate and natural compared to Sony. My initial shots straight out of the S5ii gave me skin tones that I actually see in real life. The FX30 tends to make me more yellow or red. The one profile that made my skin look accurate in the FX30 was Cine4. Outside of that, I always had to adjust my skin in post. With the S5ii, I'm happy with what I see right away. I actually started my filmmaking journey with LUMIX using the GH5. I shot a feature film with the GH5. I switched to Sony, starting with the A7iv, for the autofocus. I then went to the FX30 because I fell for the "cinema" tag. But, now with the S5ii, I am very happy to be back with LUMIX. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Totally agree. Love the LUMIX color space. I've been using Phantom LUTs with it and haven't had to color grade much beyond minor lighting adjustments lately.
Appreciate the kind words David! It’ll come one day. For now I’m just doing my best to try and stay consistent and get content out that people can enjoy
Dope review! I was between the 2..looking to move out of GH5 simply for the low light capabilities. GH7 is good but S5iix low light might do it for me.
People fail to realize that the S5 II is a budget prosumer camera. The FX3 is the beginning of Sony pro line. Comparing the S5 II to the FX3 says a lot about how capable the camera is for ~$2000. The S5 II should actually be compared to the A7 IV. And Lumix has a great useful features why Sony only focuses on specs. Lumix cameras are great Hybrid Cinema cameras.
Although I am a Lumix shooter (previously shot Sony aps-c cameras, and a Nikon D750), I wouldn't say that Sony cameras are all about specs; at least, not their video-focused cameras, as they only have 12MP sensors and can only shoot in 4K max resolution. It's kind of weird because it seems like most agencies want their camera ops to shoot on an FX6, even if the production ISN'T going to be taking advantage of Sony's major distinguishing attributes (i.e., great autofocus and 4K in high frame rates).
@@marin_real_estate_photographylol nobody watches anything directly on 6k. Too many of yall get caught up in that resolution. You wouldn’t be able to tell if you short on that lumix in 6k vs a 4k setting at all the exact same settings lol
I actually get some look when I shoot sigma vs Sony lens in general though. Sigma comes off darker and more contrasty. And that will be on the same camera. It would be great to see the same lens brand compared on the different camera systems.
@@prestonurvina totally understandable. Just pointed that out. Because of my experience. I have mixed kit. Maybe could be a future video idea. Great video!!!
hi nice review, could you test out how cameras handle when you try like a push or pull fast shot towards someone, and when following someone from behind but still having that handheld motion. if the faster sensor on the FX3 gives a more pleasing look in those scenarios than the S5ii, and using only ibis no ES
Both great cameras though I’d prefer the s5iix over the s5ii to get access to the better codecs. A great feature in the s5ii/x is the real time lut so you can apply your own luts directly on the v-log for fast turnarounds
I feel it! I use the FX3 in my full-time gig, and the S5II/S9 at home. LOVE the LUMIX IBIS. LOVE the Sony low light. wish I could combine those two features into one camera lol
If I had to start all over again I’d go LUMIX. Partly for kicks, partly for opengate, partly for the IBIS. Currently, I’m heavily invested into Sony glass and understand how it works to get the images I need with my A7IV and going through the process of liquidating my entire setup to rebuild my kit and learn a new system isn’t worthwhile for me. When I get to the point where I can’t do what I want with the tools I have, I’m sure I’ll look elsewhere, but for now I’ve not reached the ceiling of my current camera (:
@ there are a few really good offerings from Nikon now too - they stepped up their video game. I’m gonna wait a bit before I make the call on Nikon, though. Now that they’ve acquired RED I want to give them time to integrate some technology - I really think RED will be a huge catalyst for them in the video field.
As videographers, we are blessed with lots of great cameras. The camera market is... kind of weird. everyone is hyped about higher resolutions (8K, anyone???), yet the 4K cinema and hybrid cameras from Sony seem to be doing pretty well for themselves, despite being, what, four years old now??? Personally, I love my S5 IIX. It would have been great if Panasonic had released something with the 12MP sensor in the FX3 / FX6 / a7S III (and good autofocus) four years ago. I am guessing Sony wouldn't sell that sensor to Panasonic.
Reliable AF and 4k120 is well worth the money to me, open gate is useless if its not in focus at all, slow readout speeds means jello effect when i whip pan. No IBIS would replace a gimbal, if i need stability while moving, it is inevitable to go that route Different tools for different needs I’d say
Have you even tried the focus on s5iix man?? I have never owned one always shot on Sony but I hate it when people say things that they are not supposed to say just to glorify what they have 😂
So I have the original S5 and I literally just made a video saying how I’m not going to upgrade because the footage I get is comparable to the Sony FX3…people really sleep on lumix but I prefer their images over the highly overratted canon and Sony plus the price and value is incredible
In my country the S5II is less than half the price and considering how well it performs I'd say it's a great choice. Unfortunately Panasonic isn't very big here, I suppose it's because they don't do much marketing here.
@@garreswe I feel like Panasonic has been quietly one of the best camera brands for a long time. They don’t throw nearly as much money at marketing as say Canon or Sony.
