I am a designer and color consultant and you are doing everything right -larger samples, room orientation, and a point of inspiration - the artwork. I recommend the darker yellow, and that is a classic period color (an ochre) which has been used for centuries as a paint color. Its also similar to India Yellow by Farrow and Ball.
The artwork looks outstanding with that color. Also, in classic design with color, you could utilize a 60/30/10 format: the ochre is 60,% the sage green in the artwork could the 30%, OR the beige "sky" in the art being the 30%, and the black of the frame 10% could be in elements such as lighting, or one of those ebonized spindle chairs you purchased a while back.
Natural linen also looks wonderful with this palette, for the curtains and the coverlet -thats both French and
contemporary, and soothing and airy for the bedroom -the ochre in the walls being the predominate "hero" color.
I totally agree. The black frame made both the color and the frame and artwork pop.
Especially if brass is added to the room at any point as mentioned regarding the shirt hanging solution.
What beautiful comments 😮 👌
@@lorengalvez7402 yes to brass -great idea.
Hi I need/would love your help. I am looking for a neautral colour for my lounge- i have creamish sofas, dark wood furniture, brass mirror and frames - i cant find the right wall colour, im having sleepless nights 😅
My vote is for the yellow tones. I think the room will look both calm and fresh.
I agree with that choice too!
Agreed! I feel like it flows with the overall vibe of the Chateau better as well. Adding those gorgeous contrasts will make it still feel elevated, but not stuffy or overwhelmed.
Totally agree! 😊
Me too
I like the yellow tones as well, but vote for a lighter version of your blue tone. Browns and reds are not restful tones, which is something to consider for the room you want to sleep in.
You can get one of those ladders on a rail like what you see in libraries for the wardrobe
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
Yes that’s what I was thinking! But maybe some sort of foldable ladder that stores in the cabinet
Benoit can make one. He'll love to do that 🙂
I think that only really works without doors, and then you'd have open hanging space which can easily look messy
And perhaps some hanging rails that pull out and down below!
I can’t even tell you how much peace your guys’ channel brings to my life. I wait for your videos all week! The classical music, the comedy, Phillip’s humbleness. You guys work so hard, in your renovations and in editing, and it shows in the quality of your videos. 😇 I will remain a faithful disciple 🤣
Glad you enjoy it :)
I personally like when bedrooms are calm/soft colors.
Me too. We had a yellow bedroom and it was not good for sleeping vibes. Changed it to sea glass green and it is lovely.
Me too. Light, dusky lavender is a very soothing color, which is very conducive to sleeping. That's what color I'm painting my bedroom when my house is ready to move in.
NOW you start being overwhelmed????? Anna, you are my decision-making idol!
Prefer the green or a blue over Muscavado. Also dark colors will absorb heat more and can fade faster in a room that gets lots of sunlight year round.
Although it’s cool outside now, in the heat of summer a room that reads heavy and warm like Muscavado can make it even heavier/warmer/stuffier.
Color theory suggests going with cool light tones in a heavy sunlit room.
In dressing rooms, I prefer the most neutral tones so that clothing and accessories are their purest tones for selection… you don’t want clothing selection to be altered by the wall color reflection.
Everything you’ve done so far is beautiful and I’m sure this Suite will be the same.
Thank you Katrina for explaining the use of light colours against clothing in in dressing rooms etc.
Agree totally..
Dark colors will also obscure a lot of the detail in the beautiful wood paneling.
Could you maybe have a hidden step that slides out so you could reach the higher closet?
Was just going to comment this!
For me the muscovado would quickly become oppressive, regardless of sunlight. Maybe for a moody library but not for my bedroom.
It's a dressing room
Agreed, or personally I think I would be more tolerant of that tone if it was wood, or maybe something like grass cloth, rather than just paint
Agreed!
@@skdoremi6666 Actually, if you re-watch the clip.....the colors they are discussing are for the bedroom!!
Totally agree.
I have throughly enjoyed binge watching these videos. I just wish when Philip is showing her something he has done and is proud of himself that Anna wouldn’t always find something wrong with what he’s done, no matter how big or small, she has to point out mistakes or imperfections.
I think Ziggy is a beautiful base color for your room!! He is hanging out the whole time while you post colors on the walls. “Hello! I am a beautiful coordinating color!”
Philip your humor is absolutely amazing! Never stop being you. 😂❤
Personally, I really like the relaxing seafoam blue-green color of your plasterboard, perhaps a shade or two lighter. Very spa-ish.
I thought the same! 🐚
The cinnamon, umber, and sienna together would look beautiful.
Thank you. ❤🎉❤🎉😊
Madeline, the picture books, is a lovely story. “In an old house in Paris all coved with vines, lived 12 little girls in two straight line. And the youngest one was Madeline.”

Phillip makes the Reno’s so entertaining!
Have you thought about duck egg blue ? And then staying with the blue hues in all three rooms ?
Philip's sense of humor is so hilarious! So entertaining.
The love the energy the 2 of you give to the château.
Phillip's theatrical flare is entertaining.
The music choices for Philipp's segments made me smile!
O my gawd, Phillip, your parts are ABSOLUTE gold! Your editing and music - CLASSIC!! Thank you so much. SO entertaining.
I found myself laughing out loud, Phillip has an awesome sense of humor, love this channel.
Agreed! You make ,what could be tedious work for us to watch, very entertaining, interesting and sometimes even hilarious.😅
Very good storytelling skills. Love it!
❤👍👌🏼💯🙌
The dark chocolate brown with the darker mustardy yellow and the dark green is 🤩 doing things.
The gold paint palette for the bedroom is gorgeous and sumptuous
Regarding the color for the dressing room: For myself, I prefer not getting dressed in dark color rooms. It makes me feel like I'm getting dressed in a room without lights and I cannot find anything. I'd also consider choosing a color which will not reflect onto the clothes I'm trying to match. Which tie goes with a yellow shirt in a blue room reflecting green tints onto a yellow shirt? Dilemma!
agree - the clothes will appear different in the dressing room if there is a lot of color on the walls -- tinting the light bouncing around in the room. Also warm, side lighting will make you feel better about yourself when you're standing in front of the mirror.
I think the yellow/gold tones would look best. It’s cheery and looks almost neutral so you could add color/drama with curtains, bedding and pillows. A dark color would fade quickly in the sunlight and is better suited for a library. Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together 😍😘As always love the humor 😂😂😂😂😂
Phillip does the best squarespace ads
I would find linens that you like first before deciding on wall colors. It always takes me longer to find fabrics that I like let alone trying to match to an existing wall color. Just my 2 cents
The yellow tone is stunning…..especially with that painting as a reference
Phillip is hysterical 😂. LOVE his humor and absolutely LOVE watching the rhythm of their marriage relationship! A great example of not taking life so seriously and getting our panties in a wod. Great video!!!
"Knickers in a Twix" as Robin would say ...
I am in awe with the red color already on the walls
I love the gold for the bedroom. For the bathroom a pale blue with white trim.
Phillip you sense of humour is brilliant. So enjoy your videos.
Glad you like them!
You should just call us Stockers, Phillip! PHILLIP I LOVE WATCHING YOU AND YOUR HUMOR I GET. 🤣 😆 😄 THANKS FOR MAKING IT COMMICAL. Anna you bring balance and love to each space you create something very personal....LOVE LOVE LOVE U GUYS!❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much for watching :)
All the Ziggy colors are so lovely! He walked into the frame when you were talking about the colors and I had a little moment just appreciating this combination of colors that seem to all have been chosen with him in mind. You've done the "muscovado" burnt umber one in the dining room so no need to repeat that, same with that grey-green. Go for the yellow ones in this gorgeous south facing series of rooms. It'll be lovely with unbleached natural linen colors for drapery and bedding, and it looks so pretty with the artwork. Use other colors from the painting in the textiles like soft furnishings, pillows, towels and such. Use unbleached natural linen lamp shades with lamps that are dark like the frame on the artwork. In the bathroom you can go the opposite for drama - strong contrast with rich smokey dark chocolate walls and light buttery colors in the cabinetry and plenty of brass fixtures that will just gleam. Put an eclectic collection of antique gilded framed mirrors on the wall in the bathroom, collect them from antique shops and estate sales. That'll conjure magic with the light that room gets! Then in the dressing room on the other side, go back to the softer yellow ochre palette of the bedroom. It'll be dramatic and lovely!
It'll be fun to see it all come together! I know it's exhausting and overwhelming, and the decision fatigue is real, but it will come together. Using a professional designer can really help make this process less stressful because they're actually far more detached and able to see things realistically than you are. I realize it sounds like an insult and I don't mean it to be, it's always a hundred times more challenging when it's your own home, even when you have excellent taste and have worked as a designer for many years. Plus a professional designer should be able to show you a curated collection with textiles, furniture choices, paint colors, metals, and fixtures so that you're making your decisions in that context and not just one by random one - which is so much harder. And please, this is not meant to be insulting! I'm just mindful that you're making big design decisions without much helpful input, and that can be really stressful.
But no matter what you do, if you plan the design of this Primary Bedroom Suite ("Master Bedroom" is less used these days) around your gorgeous dog, you can't go wrong. Ziggy is a work of art!
You guys have become my favorites because of Philipp's sense of humor and your creativity and work ethic. I think you guys would get on famously with George and Amal Clooney. 😂
Love the darker yellow. It always makes a room bright, homey and comfy:)
Love the darker yellow color for the bedroom! I think the dark blue in the bathroom could work but needs some light colored tiles.
8:45 Hahahaha...Phillip you just crack me up all the time!!
I am beginning to believe that Phillip could quite possibly pull off hosting "The Tonight Show" and successfully sit in for Jimmy Fallon, maybe even steal Jimmy's spot! So funny! Loving that rust color and your choice of music in each video is always great! Today was unexpected and really fun. Somehow you blend everything so well guys! Cheers!
The music choices are always fabulous. I'm a trained musician and really enjoy the music enhances the film. ❤❤❤❤
With lines like "they call me waste pipe Phillip for a reason." He's really a natural comedian.
so, y'all are building this for you, yes? i hope you live in these luxury, masters' suite for you and its your absolute DREAM. i hope you end up in there and its magnificent.
Your dog’s coat is the exact shade you need. As the dog greeted you, he passed through a sun beam and that was fabulous.
Ziggy knows all; he can do no wrong. Trust him on color.
Anna, whatever you choose will be beautiful!
I love the yellow!! It will be beautiful with the sun shining in.
Yellow! Absolutely the best choice
My vote is for lighter colours. I personally love a light and airy bedroom and wardrobe area. Feels bigger. For me it feels calmer, more peaceful. Also is it for yourselves or for guests as in are you planning to reopen it as a bnb?
Definitely have wall paper above the panelling and the panelling in a complimentary colour
Usually i would go for a cool tone for a bedroom so that it's more calming. If you want it to be more energizing, that darker yellow tone is beautiful
The red, black and cream color look the best in my opinion. The blue you held up at the end is also really beautiful with all of them, could be fun to make it very colorful.
The yellow tones are lovely but I like the darker one as well!
I like the mustard gold and the blue.
For the top shelves, i think a library leader would be really cool
I just love Philipp comments! :) They really making my day!
I tend to like lighter, soothing colors in a bedroom. I would mimic the doors on the opposite wall, and I would keep your dressing room a light color so not to clash with your clothing. xx
I like the "red" one. It's quietly edgy and sophisticated.
Hello, strangely enough, the sky blue of the plasterboard near your samples goes quite well with the color palette. More so than your darkest blue. Can't wait to see what you choose!
I had the exact same thought.
MUSIC: Just wanted to sign on to let you know how much I liked all your different music choices for this episode. So fun. So playful. Really reflective of your personality Philip!
The yellow is stunning in the bright room! When I was in retail we used long poles with hooks to bring down the hangers, that could be an option.
Yes, game changer! Plus, library ladders are always a win!
Whatever you choose I am sure will be beautiful I love how you use non fussy colours in The Chateau that are respectful to the building but not oppressive ❤
And I forgot to say Anna’s talent is amazing!❤
You two are a riot. I’m here for the humor!
The dark mustard, yellow is my choice, but the rusty color also looks really nice.
On my screen I really love the terracotta colour and the yellow! Warm, bold and lovely in a south facing room
I once painted a room with the goldish yellow. I came to grow very tired and almost angry with it. The reddish colour is warm and cozy and more comfortable than all the others. It also goes well with the blue/green. Mirrors and artwork can lighten the saturation of the colour. Just one opinion, you always come through!
The reddish/brown and blue-green combo is my favorite, too!
I did as well. The color was supposed to be closer to cappuccino but it turned out more like pumpkin LOL
Definitely the yellow tones, so beautiful!
My admiration and respect has tripled for you. I stumbled across the video I think made in the UK about how to reinvent some of those mansions and there were so many owners who were too lazy or limited in vision to save them. I’m sure they are still struggling or have thrown in the towel. You both are inspiration not to be like them. Your work is impressive and impeccable. I’m just sad you no longer host a B&B as you were definitely on my bucket list. 😊
The B&B is on hold till they have finished all of the rooms, they were finding juggling the renovations with the RUclips and the B&B just too much at the time it’s in one of the past videos. They have some other buildings on the property that also needs work. It was a tossup between RUclips and the B&B and the B&B lost the toss as they were having so much fun doing the RUclips at the time. But once the Chateau has been finished they said the B&B will be back.
Very exciting to see the progress you are making with this suite. Philipp, you have forever earned the title of “Leonardo of the Wastepipes” with that ingenious meander you managed to bend into the pipe to get around the rock in the wall. Whatever colors you choose, I’m sure they will be beautiful.
Absolutely would go with the yellow/gold color. Stay away from the dark in the closet. Depends on your tile and counter tops in the bathroom.
I really love that mid yellow and especially with the green as the bathroom!! Feels very sumptuous and yet calming! And the yellow is the perfect uplifting but warming in winter months
Hi ! very nicely done, as usual :) Philipp, i think you forgot to put some insulation material between the outside wall and the "placo" in the bathroom; Du wirst frieren ! :))
I thought the same thing. Chateaux are famously cold...all that stone. AND...insulation seems like a no brainer.
Yes. I wondered if the thick brick outer wall was enough to protect from typical winter temperatures in France. Certainly it would not be in Canada
@@madolynway6612 Madolyn, a typical brick or granite or stone wall will generally have an insulation value of one or less no matter the thickness. A typical insulated modern wall may have a value from ten to twenty while a ceiling may be 40 or more. The real problem isn't the heat but rather the moisture which will condense on that cold stone wall just like it does on your iced tea glass in the summer and cause mold on the plasterboard next to it. Good on cheeses sometimes, not so much for some other stuff. Vapor barriers are important. Lack of them is how houses get "sick" sometimes. Sometimes what we don't know can hurt us. Jack L.
Havent stopped giggling tonight .... the things Philip comes out with, you must have a fun life together!! ("more handsome version of George Clooney in Gravity"). 😂😂
matching door facades on each side of the room. Look into a "California Closet" type solution with pull down clothes bars that are supported by air pistons that help raise and lower the bars. Each closet could have double the storage space.
I think those were the ones Anna was talking about but did not like because they were too modern looking, hence the brass/copper comment, I think as much as she liked them she wanted something that would look in keeping with the age of the mansion and rooms.
California Closets used to both brass chrome and black@@dawsie
Calif. Closet wall hanging brackets all broke in our house, every single closet had that weak system... it may utilize space, but it's poorly constructed, so, they did not make a good wall mount, it fails, and all system will sag and pull out of the wall and become a huge mess. Hubbie had to put up vertical poles in several places to support weight of clothes on those weak wall mounts that failed, in every closet as all wall mounts broke down over time. And you cannot slide clothes as you could on a rod, because it's not a rod, but a wire box... Not a fan.
Well there you go. I have never used them All my closets were job built wood with rails and step ladders @@peacenow4456
All those muted colours are my favourite! 👌
I would not make decision until looking at colors on gray, cloudy day. But I know that your taste is what coults and it will be great, no matter what! Love to see the progress!
I love the deep yellow gold and the rusty color together
I would go with pastel colors so the artwork stands out. The wall colors are there to support the decoration coming on top
@@peacenow4456 If the overall vision for what the room will look like is clear then the end result will work
I love that the reddish brown is Ziggy’s color!!
Mirror the cupboards. For the higher up racks you can get a pole with hook, sold at higher end organization shops or custom closet stores. They also have racks that be lowered and raised which I have and love. Great channel!
This suite is going to be breathtaking. Southern exposure, graceful lines.... I just honestly hope you use a different color on the woodwork (paneling, chair rail, door & window frames) than on the plasterboard walls. Your dining room color is great, but a coordinating color on the lower parts of the wall would provide relief for the eye. Plus using a single color causes you to lose the beauty of the defining lines that the paneled woodwork provides.
Love the dark gold for the bedroom. Almost the same as we have in a southwest facing bedroom. Also, in the adjoining bathroom we went with a lighter shade of the same gold, as it is a much darker bathroom, as is yours. I love that color, even in the summer.
Team Yellow tone. The one that was taped above Muscovado is my favorite.
Pull in the muscovado color with fabrics via curtains, bedding or rugs.
If you’re not doing the same color throughout all 3 rooms (which is what I’d do to make them cohesive), then maybe think about doing them in an ombré effect from room to room starting with the darkest shade in the south facing bedroom, then the medium shade in the bathroom and the lightest shade in the dressing room.
Try doing an accent wall in the bedroom with the green color. In the dressing room maybe paint the interior of the cupboards with the green (as long as you include LED lighting strips inside).
In the bathroom, consider painting the vanity or the ceiling the green color too in order to tie all 3 rooms together.
If you do muscovado via fabrics in the bedroom, then use towels that color in the bathroom and use artwork or accessories (like a seat cushion or pillow if you have a chair) in the dressing room in that color as well in order to pull it all the way through the entire space for consistency.
Best of Luck!!
I like the touch of teal for the bedroom and then it ties in well if you use it for the bathroom as well. I like the muscovado. Its warm and cozy, how I would want my bedroom.
Oh dear me, you guys make my heart happy. God bless ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
re double hanging: In the costume area of an opera house we used a simple, normal closet bar on the top. An old fashioned window pole with a bracket on one end made it easy to to access the clothing. It slipped under the hanger enabliing us to quickly bring down or put up the clothinng,
Yes. And you often see them in retail stores in the U.S. (Target, Kohl’s) to access out of reach clothing.
Thanks for the tip!
came here to give the same advice. This worked perfectly for me
What a silly boy you are waste pipe Phillip.I congratulate Anna for standing by you . Actually, the world is presently in urgent need of silliness, and I thank you for your contribution, glue sniffing and all.I love the idea of the yellow paint colour but I am somewhat prejudiced by the disappointment I feel with the colour I recently chose for my walls, and my wish that I had instead used more the colour you are contemplating.
Yep that’s what I do now, it’s easy and simple and can live hooked over the bar when not in use.
My opinion is you have so much color everywhere in the Chateau. Having a white master suite and ensuite and dressing room, with dark wood cabinets and furniture is the way to go. Bring colour through textiles.
I loved the dark color that resembled the frame of the painting. It would be nice for the wooden paneling. (I would go for a darker "base" and a lighter upper part). I imagine there might be a "print" involved on the walls, so I'd go for that caramel shade that is in the middle of all those nude shade samples on the wall.
Following your youtube videos is so much more fun than any TV show!
WPP (Waste Pipe Philipp) is a legend!
I have become a disciple.
Hi Phillip and Amna,
I like the darker color yellow
I think it would be beautiful to match the sunshine coming in to the south facing window! Love your channel! One day could you ever take a drive through Picardie? My great grandfather was from thar region. Thank you! Michelle
Phillip is so funny!!! I love this family❣️
I really love the muscovado!! It’s a stunning and captivating warm colour, I have the paint sample here too and it immediately stands out. There is definitely enough light to get away with it, with the south light it does need a stronger colour. I dont mind the deeper, darker yellow either, but the light one gives me 80s magnolia vibes (and not in a good way).
Phillip, I lovr your dry, wry sense of humor! The piping installation was riveting!
I agree Anna. I like the golden yellow for the walls. The sun will make the room glow. Accent with the brownishish color. The entire pallette is fabulous
I could go either way with any of those color pallets, but I think you’re right about that darker color in the bathroom. You should definitely go lighter OR even do like a French provincial white wash in the bathroom
I really like the yellow in the middle, especially when you held the black frame up to it. It looked so rich, warm and soft all at the same time.
so excited about this renovation, can’t believe it’s already been 3 months :)
i really like the combination of black-ish colour with the yellow one on top for the wallpaper, very beautiful combination
Thank you!!
The Pethericks just painted a bedroom in that rich golden yellow color. It looks absolutely sumptuous.
Thank you once again for laughter and renovations!! I love all the colours you've chosen and can't wait to see how you put it all together.
I'm SO excited to see your on to paint. I'm with Philip on a darker romantic warm color tones. Can't wait. ❤🎉😊
LOVE the ochre. And the red.
Yellows and Philip as a stand up comedian. Love your Château and what you've done, great taste. High Ziggy.
The paint color that is closest to the color of Ziggy. The middle yellowy gold one on the top three colors. That one is my favorite! I love it with the black accents!❤❤🎉
mine too (philipp)
You are both so talented and Philip is so funny makes me smile 😅
