Awesome. I’ve heard there are a lot of bears south of the lake. I was in and near the park with my uncle the week following the 4th. We did 3 separate day hikes into the Black Canyon and fished the Yellowstone River. No mosquitos thankfully, just salmon flies the size of hummingbirds. The fishing was incredible! No bear sightings while fishing but had a surprise encounter with an old resting bison bull that had not a care in the world that we were there. We also fished Soda Butte and the Lamar but got absolutely pounded by the wind.
My uncle just informed me the conditions have deteriorated to the point of forced closures in the park. Water is getting warm and low.

This video gave me a lot of inspiration for my trip with friends. We caught a bunch cutthroat between 13 and 23 inches from shore at heart lake. The entire shoreline was good, but anywhere cold water was flowing in was dynamite. Just incredible fishing. Also, a stock outfit brought in an inflatable raft and let us use it. We paddled out and had instant action vertically jigging for Lake Trout out in deep water. An unbelievable trip. We started at the heart lake trailhead and finished at the south boundary trailhead on the snake river. The upper parts of the snake (10-12 miles from south boundary) was unbelievably good fishing, too. Trip of a lifetime. Thanks for the video!

May I ask what dry flies your group was using while fishing Heart Lake?Thank you Stan for another wonderful video. Yellowstone was my favorite go to place when I lived in Colorado. I miss it terribly, hoping to go in September

    • @larmolarmo

Basically just generalized mayfly patterns like an Adams when the area opens on July, 1. Then add hoppers, beetles, ants and such in late August/early September.
