I started at Shenley Court 50 years ago, in September 1966. I left in 1974, and moved away from 'Brum soon after. I recognise some of the buildings, but parts seem to have changed since I was there. I can remember some outstanding teachers (Mr. Walkden, PE, "Diddy" Evans, woodwork, and mr. Francis, History). I retired from my job with the Scottish Govt. almost 4 years ago, and live in Edinburgh. Being at Shenley seems so long ago it is almost as though it happened to somebody else.
Hi, I have been trying to track down my school when I lived in Northfields from 1970 - 1976 and I think this was the school. My dad ran the Bell Lane Fish and Chip shop, and I remember taking a bus from the shop to the school. Didn't have the best time there as I was picked on a lot due to being Indian, but in 1973 it wasn't the norm it is today.
I was stunned to see the school gone when I drove past a few weeks ago. I thought that all the new works were just an extension.... It seems, frankly, like a huge waste, as the school wasn't even that old. I can remember watching it being built, and went there myself about five years after it opened. The facilities there were second to none. It's biggest flaw was that it was a Comprehensive - a daft concept that has never worked. No wonder the UK is in the red when we waste on this scale...!!!!!
nice comment thanks ...but it contained a lot of asbestos and was in need of a massive repair ...cheaper to build a new one than do it up cheers again steve
