Great vid. Ones rules clarification though, Sarween Tools only gives you discount when you use "PRODUCTION" ability. So when you use Chaos mapping or other things that tell you to "Produce" you do not get the discount. Sarween is tied to the specific game mechanic "PRODUCTION" which is related to, but different from "Produce".
Also, my vote for next faction is Empyrean!
@@averybailey2500 very cool, thanks for the positive feedback, sorry for the error. I just looked it up in the FAQ, and you are definitely correct. In my defense, the wording on the cards was a bit vague. ;)
As for the Empyrean, You’re wish is my command. They will be the third video for the series. Stay tuned and be sure to share episodes of the series so that hopefully it does well enough for me to go through every faction. :)
I credited you and another viewer for bringing it to my attention. Thanks again.

would argue it is still worth it to get sarween early if you have a yellow skip and then after chaos mapping get space dock II@@TheBoardGameKaptain
Sarween is a base tech. Unless you mean use the skip for factory 2. That is the only way I would get ff2. I think I would rather upgrade carriers since dreadnought 2 is easy to get to and feels necessary.
Love all the faction reviews for ti4 and pok. It’s made learning about the game a lot easier for a new player like myself! Thanks!
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching and commenting. I've been working on this series for a while now and there's only one faction left to release now. :)
Another possible (but likely weaker) opening if you are left with Diplomacy is to, use 1 carrier and your Floating Factory to capture two systems, save 1 trade good from taking over planets to use with your home planet to research Gravity Drive.
Then, use Diplomacy to refresh planets to get 6 influence.
Finally, activate Mekatol Rex, and use Gravity Drive to give your cruiser +1 movement, and activate your agent to make you remaining carrier on your home system to move as fast as your cruiser, so both move 3 and can reach and take control of Mekatol Rex in the first round.
Very interesting, I'll have to take a closer look at this strategy. Thanks so much for posting. :)
Personally, I prefer starting with Warfare, and researching Sarween Tools in round 1.
Use a carrier and two infantry to take two planets, giving 2 trade goods.
Assume you follow research and use your home planet and 1 trade good to research.
Then use your Floating Factory (FF), your carrier and two infantry to take over two more planets, bringing you to 3 trade goods. With the discount from Sarween Tools, you can build a Dreadnought and two more infantry.
If you are lucky, you might even get to follow construction and place a Space Dock with your other Space Dock, however think of this as a bonus if it happens.
Play Warfare to get your command token back from the system with your Space Dock.
@@SilentNSly that's very close to how I usually do it. ;)
From what I've read you can't actually do this as the Cruisers move value is still 2 for the sake of the agent. It just gets a temporary+1 for that activation but it's moved value does not technically change to 3. So your Carrier can only move 2 with the Agent unless another player has researched Cruiser 2 or another unit that has base 3 movement speed.
Add that this supports POK in the name of the video. Will give you more hits 😀 think most will skip thinking this is outdated
I get what you mean, but I can only make the titles so long before people wont actually see a lot of it. FYI though, all the episodes in this series include advice for POK. ;)
Great video =) I wonder if it's worth it with Saar, when you start first, to choose Warfare and take Mecatol Rex at round 1 or just focus on expanding on other systems of the slice.
Taking MR super early is a really good way to put a big target on your back. Everyone will be your enemy. You will take an early lead, but then you will lose it and probably take a big beating in the process that you may not recover from.
@@TheBoardGameKaptain and my friends would love to put this target on me ! =) Thanks for your time !
Really love these type of videos! Keep up the good work!
Thanks very much for the positive feedback! Which faction would you most like to see covered?
@@TheBoardGameKaptain I would say the Ghost of Creuss would be interesting! I'm going to play them next week
@@kyleweeks2941 your wish is my command. I'll film it soonish and get it into the release schedule. Hopefully this series will do well enough to warrant doing an episode on each and every faction, so be sure to share. ;)
@@TheBoardGameKaptain awesome you rock! Dont push yourself too hard though. We all have time to kill anyway!
Just studying up for tomorrow's game, thanks for the tips!
You're very welcome. Good luck, let me know how the game goes. :)
Thanks for the video! Feeling more prepared for my first PoK game
You're very welcome, let me know how you do.
Love it! Keep them coming!!
Thank you, I will. :)
It would be great if you do faction guides for all the other factions! I like to see different opinions on how they work and what strategies are used. :)
I'm going to definitely try to keep this series going for as long as people watch it. I've already got the next 2 factions picked out as they were requested by other viewers. Ghosts of Creuss are next followed by the Empyrean. Which faction would you like to see me cover after them?
@@TheBoardGameKaptain I´d like to hear your opinion about the Mahact and the Arborec. :)
Can you already tell when Ghosts and Empyrean will be online?
@@Shugenjya Mahact and Arborec coming right up. I'm going to try to space the episodes out a bit to try and keep them from burning people out on them. I plan to post the Creuss episode in 6 days on the 22nd.
@@TheBoardGameKaptain THX! :)
One more error coming stemming from the fact that you seem to own one the earlier prints of the game. Hypermetabolism (green tech with 2 pre-reqs) increases number of tokens you get from 2 to 3 (not from 1 to 2 as original print states). There was an errata for that plus newer prints have that error corrected on technology cards. Thanks for your work on these - hope you will have the opportunity to power through all factions :)
Thanks, I did miss that. I was just reading directly from the card. Thanks for pointing it out so I don’t make the same mistake again in the future. ;)
Sarween Tools and AI-Development Algorithm only work with regular PRODUCTION (Warfare passive or Token in system with a Space Dock)
Chaos Mapping does not work with it and the nice new surprise produce gimmicks from Arborec also do not work with it.
This important rule is unfortunately not very intuitive since it depends on specific wording, making it even harder when you play a translated version of the game.
PS: i know it got already mentioned in the comments, just wanted to add on to this point.
Indeed, they should definitely have been more clear with their wording. I did also post a correction video by the way. I don't know if you saw it, I'll post a link below.
ruclips.net/video/nm5BrHhgfoI/видео.html
if you go for War Sun (AI-DK lets you skip one red)
Sarween Tools (Y) (2 free infantry/fighters per space dock every round)
AI-DK(R) + Duranium Armor(R)
i would try to get Duranium Armor with a red skip, since the Self Assembly Routines is very clunky and not so great imho.
You can get 4 Mechs out early for 4 Trade Goods and then use SAR to destroy one Mech on a less useful spot to get it to the frontlines, giving you 1 Trade Good every round.
And if they die in combat you get the initial cost back. but researching the Tech costs you 4 Resource and a Token in the first place, so you break even in late game.
i think researching a unit upgrade serves you better in the long run.
Very nice. I've decided to go more into the unit upgrades for future episodes, but I was obviously not delving into them here. You make some great points, thanks! :)
Again just pointing out, sarween tools syncs with PRODUCTION, not produce.
Yeah I know, this was my first big error in the series. I'm planning to do a video with all the corrections from the entire series at some point.
@@TheBoardGameKaptain cool cool. I've played a few games and happy to talk with you on errata.
Sarween does not work with chaos mapping fyi, its "produce a unit" not "use PRODUCTION".
Sorry for the error, I looked it up in the FAQ and you are definitely correct. In my defense, the wording on the cards is a little vague, hence why it needed a FAQ.
@@TheBoardGameKaptain Yeah its confusing the whole PRODUCTION is produce, but produce isn't PRODUCTION. There are like 3 different mechanisms that are this way (such as Researching is gaining a tech, but gaining a tech isn't researching)
I credited you and another viewer for bringing it to my attention. Thanks again.
ruclips.net/video/nm5BrHhgfoI/видео.html
Loosing your homesystem as Saar, or not having a spacedock stationary there DOES come with a huge loss ... You can't build of WARFARE secondary (which lets you build a ready fleet that is not locked by an activation token).
Also, Sarween tools do NOT reduce costs while using Chaos Mapping.
I'm aware of the mistake I made with Sarween Tools. As to your other point, I understand what you mean, and it is a disability for sure, but it is a very minor one in my opinion. It's certainly much more minor than what happens to any other faction that loses their home system. ;)
@@TheBoardGameKaptain Doh, I feel like a complete idiot for pointing out what douzens of others already pointed out, especially since I found out later that you published a correction video for exactly that topic already, good sir. Sorry! And I also totally agree... Saar is so damn powerful they don't even need WARFARE Secondary. Thanks for your videos!
