Years later I'm just now seeing your video. I love it! So easy to follow instructions. And knocked my nerves out the window. I want to make several shrugs now. Thank you!
OMG! I love this simple idea to turn a piece of fabric into a shrug! That's why I landed on your video. I have a company Christmas party to go to this Saturday and have a black dress with very thin straps. I want to cover my arms even though my arms are fine but I think this look is so classy! Thank you, thank you!
Don't know if you'll see this after all this time, but I wanted to thank you for the tutorial. I am not a sewer, but needed something to go with a new dress I purchased for my grandson's wedding coming up in June. I could find nothing and decided I had to find something I could sew myself. This fit the bill. I made it of sparkly netting, doubled. I did make it first out of another fabric just to see if I would like it and could do it. :D. Just finished the "real thing". Thank heavens, my outfit is all set, thanks to you.
Gosh....what a great story!!! Thankyou for sharing it with me and I'm so glad you were able to complete your outfit! The doubled net idea sounds lovely. X
Thank you for this. You resolved a fear I had of ruining a beautiful piece of Milly silk. This shrug was indeed so, so easy. I made mine longer so that it falls between a shrug and kimono, and this will be perfect for the wedding I'm attending in late June, and anything else. I'll take a photo and send it your way.
Thank you so much I always wanted to make one of these shrug! Patter in u.s. lately they been expensive. But now me watching your video it’s now I can make one without pattern 💖💖💖💖
Wonderful instructions that have taken the fear out of making shrugs for 3 bridesmaids. Thank you for this really great tutorial. I have to make them in crushed velvet and I am also edging them in marabou, so I really feel more confident now.
Thanks so much for this tutorial 🙏They do not sell chiffon/ lace shrug or bolero here in this conservative country, so I've to manually make one for my daughters graduation. 💗
Loved your clear instructions. Your very easy to understand and listen too! Hopefully you will show us how to sew step by step with this machine also. Thank you tremendously!
Hello, we have a very indepth video of How to thread a mini sewing machine and How to thread a Janome sewing machine. So glad you enjoyed this tutorial
Years later I'm just now seeing your video. I love it! So easy to follow instructions. And knocked my nerves out the window. I want to make several shrugs now. Thank you!
Love your quick easy projects. Big impact. Little effort. And all one needs is a small "pinch" of beautiful fabric. Dramatic fun and it's economical. That's great!
celticladydar Wow.....Mardi Gra lucky you and this is so quick to make that if will definitely be done in time. The one with the ribbing around the edge if the lace is good too and might stay on better if dancing around all night. Thankyou, Tree x
@@StitchlessTV I saw your lesson years ago but hadn't figured out how to SAVE on RUclips yet. Today when I needed you, you were here. Love from Canada Tree!
I love this. I have some really fancy rose petal material laying around I bought on a whim and this is what I am doing with it. Thanks, great tutorial.
I truly enjoyed your video. The shrugs are lovely and so easy. I only wish you would provide the measurements in inches as well. I have never had to learn the metric measurements growing up.

I just want you to know that I love your channel so much! You are so talented and have such great taste. I have watched at least 5 videos bc I am needing some help on cool designs I can make myself. I started with the japenese bag bc I wanted to make a canvas bag I could paint on. But liked the boho bag look and the triangle look. Also watched the leather triangle bag, the summer dress that ties, and the reversable skirt. I am plus sized so it makes it hard to find cute clothes- if I can make my own then they would fit better and look better. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you are a great teacher and I can learn to "see" how things are actually constructed and understand it...vs just following directions. I know it's sort of gushing but thank you so much!
+Trotter What a great comment, Thankyou so much and I'm flattered to have inspired you. Take a look at our Japanese Cocoon style coat or 30min coat and imagine in a more drapey fabric like we show at the end of the film. We learnt that this coat looks better with a do it in the back so if you make it be sure to do this. If you struggle to find suitable folded knitted edging, let me know. Thanyou. Tree X
The idea or this shrug is that it's effortless and easy. To make it more fitted is a different jacket. I do show at the end a version where you add ribbing, this does draw everything in around the edges so maybe this will give a more fitted look for you.
Try measuring the length from your right wrist across the back to the left wrist...this is for width. Then neck to waist or hip x 2 will give you rough length.
Hi, I would like to make one for my wedding day...do I need to adjust the sewing machine tension or use a special needle at all? Fab tutorial and so well explained, well done 👰💍💒
Hello! This pattern is so pretty and is exactly what I was looking for, but I wanted to know if it would be possible to sew this shrug with fur and lining? :)
Yes, if you make in a knitted or stretch fabric like the one at the end of video then you can add long ribbed cuffs to the armhole opening. Dies it need a video? X
I'll have to play around with this. It looks simple enough, but I wish I could see better how its folded and sewn. I get an idea when You showed the black laced one. Did you just fold the material in half and sew the bottom half of the sides, leaving room for arm holes? or is there a special way to fold? How would I measure for this? The length of my torso and and back?
Melody Ast Hello Melody, It should show in the video but the hems are a small cm and then 2-3cms. I hemmed the sides 1st then stitched up and left a hole big enough for my arms. And finally hemmed around the hem. Watch it again and hopefully it will become clear. The size is from the back of neck to waist but it's up to you, so make a toile 1st ( a rough one), it will take 5mins. Tree x
STITCHLESS TV how to sew your own style tutorials thank you!! If I use bias tape instead of ribbon for the last part, would I still use a zigzag? Or can I use a lengthy straight stitch? I’ve never used a twin needle before :/
Hmm.....bias tape to finish the edges on non stretch fabric then definitely straight stitch. Bias tape on stretchy fabric well.....use a stretch needle if you have problems with normal (might be ok cos of bias binding) I think twin needle will look good but if the edge is not subject to stretching then it is purely decorative and up to you. Good question!! Tree x
I thought I explained how you devide that in the video....it's acros elbow to elbow or wrist to wrist, depending on how wide you want it then length, shoulder to but double it so as to include the back. Hope that helps
Great tutorial, but I wish you could give some measurements or ways to measure for different sized people. How did you measure yourself to reach the numbers that you gave at the beginning of the video? Guessing is never a good idea even if you are making a trial garment first!
Did I not give any measurements? Ok...well measure from rough mid arm across back to mid arm....that will be width of square. Then measure rough shoulder to high back waist X 2....That will be the length of the square / rectangle. Hope that helps a bit. Thankyou. Tree X
