Great photos. Happy that someone also feels the way I do. I got off IG for a whole month to get away from the pointless scrolling of photos that were honestly not inspiring at all. Focused on shooting for shooting and not making videos for RUclips and man was it a breath of fresh air. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for the video mate. I couldn’t have said the fine art street bit any better. It’s great to see someone who loves the Q2M as much as I do. Can’t wait for the next one. Cheers Paul!
Amen. People, streets, and stories. That’s the best kind of candid street photography. What’s popular or rewarded by the masses or algorithms are often derivative and duplicative. I prefer what you’re doing.
Thanks so much. I’m glad we are in the same page. It must be fashionable the fine art stuff right now. Along with the colour cinematic style of street photography with long lenses
@@paulreidphotography Yes, everything is “cinematic” these days. But then, here and there, are some lovely wet plate collodion photographers, and others who are capturing real moments and telling stories without having to resort to complex presets and photoshop transformations. Your Leica Q2M is the perfect tool for keeping it simple and true with stunning, black and white images. Continued success!
Exceptionally good photography Paul …I don’t shoot, lack the skills, to capture the person of the people; but if I made the effort to, you’d be the bar for me, impressed.
Glad to see you back, and really like your "street" style. While I do enjoy a good "fine art" (as you put it) photo, I find many of them formulaic and boring. Looking forward to your next presentation.
Magic images, great philosophy - Thanks heaps. I love my Q2 Monochrom and will look at the palladium printing (if I can find in Brisbane, Australia). Thanks again..
Interesting points made.Tbh I haven't sorted the difference out yet with this fine art caper 😂 Great images.I find these people who upload 50+ images send me bonkers.Cheers.
Hi Paul, another great video and photos! Do you think you would consider covering how you approach editing Q2M raw files, I find it them quite difficult to work with for some reason and any tips would be super helpful
Love these photos. May I ask how much post production went into this? I am back and forth of getting a Q2 Mono but can't figure it out whether it is not just easier to convert "normal" footage. I would love to see one photo taken with a regular Q and a Mono.
Thanks for watching Deborah. I really appreciate it. If you are interested in the mentorship at all give me a shout on my website contact page or on Instagram.
Thanks for your reply, Paul. I love your videos. Can I ask about your camera? I am hugely attracted to the Q2 Monochrome, and I could just about afford one. But what really makes it so much better for you than a plain Q2 which would give you more shooting options?
It really depends on how much you love monochrome photography. The Q2 is also a fantastic camera. The Q2 Monochrom just has an edge for monochrome images and I wanted the best camera for monochrome images that I could get. The RAW files however are very flat on the Q2 Monochrom and there is a little bit of a learning curve in editing them.
Hi there - love your shots! Just curious... when taking people shots off-the-cuff (no prior permission given) are you concerned about legal ramifications from the subject? I'm thinking of things like face recognition software for web use etc which are now widely/freely available. I ask because I've found myself in that situation previously and it's not pretty. Thanks.
Hi Brad, here in the Uk it’s still legal to photograph people in public spaces. If someone really didn’t want their photograph published I would just not use their image
Hi Paul, any guidance on settings for Monochrome photography with the Q?.. I appreciate what can be achieved in post editing, but in respect of general settings for candid street, what would you suggest? (daylight photography)
I enjoyed the video on Platinum Palladium B&W, are there certain characteristics in a B&W photo that is generally agreed upon that would get the most out of a PP print?
Great photos. I’ve been highly considering getting the Q2 monochrom, love how it renders. On a side note: love that sweater. What would you call that style of sweater if you don’t mind? Subbed!
I really dont like photos where a human is negated to the role of a prop. I much prefer photos that tell a story with a lot of people in the re interacting. It is much more difficult to do, but good photography is never easy.
I have to disagree with your definition of “fine art” street photography, particularly the RUclipsr cliche of people walking out of shadows. Nothing fine art about that.

Thanks so much for watching the video. I’m no RUclipsr that’s for sure. But I like just chatting a little and showing images. Glad you liked it
Enjoyed the talk and photo's Paul... Thanks...
Nice to see another video from you Paul. Much prefer seeing a collection of images than IG. Hope 2023 is a great year for you
Thanks so much for watching! I’m so pleased you enjoyed it
Wonderful. Love your work.
Thanks John and thanks so much for your contribution to the channel! I really really appreciate it!!
Great photos as ever Paul - Edinburgh’s a fantastic place for street photography and you certainly do it justice 👍
Thanks so much

I don’t have the Q these days. Just the Q2 Mono. It’s different processing but no more difficult. I do however do a fair bit of post processing
Great RUclips channel. My kinda style..
Thanks so much for watching
Hey njice photos, what metering mode do you use ?
I mainly use highlight weighted
Hi Paul, Thanks again for the great videos. Beautiful work. I also have the Q2 monochrome just wondering do you use any filters when out on the street
Thanks so much for watching. I don’t use any filters at all.
are all your adjustments aul post. Do you use setting in the camera? I have the q2 monochrome as well and using it now for the street.
Hi Frank, yeah I edit the RAW files. Hope you’re enjoying the camera
Im with you. The modern stuff isn’t my cup of tea either. Mentorship sounds wonderful.

@@paulreidphotography Aahhh, interesting - I thought it was a global issue. Thanks for replying, Paul 🙂
Hi Paul great video! Do you use mostly AF or manual focus for street photography?
Thanks for watching. I use a mix of AF and Zone focussing. Depending on how fast moving a subject is.
Hi Paul, any guidance on settings for Monochrome photography with the Q?.. I appreciate what can be achieved in post editing, but in respect of general settings for candid street, what would you suggest? (daylight photography)
Hi Jon, I would try some zone focusing at 2 metres with F8 and 1/500 shutter on a bright and sunny day.
@@paulreidphotography I'll give it a go, thanks for the tip and these really informative and inspirational videos.
I enjoyed the video on Platinum Palladium B&W, are there certain characteristics in a B&W photo that is generally agreed upon that would get the most out of a PP print?
Thanks very much. Certainly images with a lot of tonal range will get the best out of a platinum print
@@paulreidphotography I will do one from my Q2M I waiting for the right image as they are incredibly expensive
It’s certainly the most expensive way to print that I know
Great photos. I’ve been highly considering getting the Q2 monochrom, love how it renders.
On a side note: love that sweater. What would you call that style of sweater if you don’t mind?
Subbed!
Thanks for the sub and thanks for watching the videos. I would call that sweater a roll neck knitted sweater or jumper.
@@paulreidphotography thank you.
Do you use Nik Silver Efex or any other software?
Hi Margaret, I just use Lightroom
Fun Stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)
Thanks so much
so you dont like Allan Schallers work :-)
Ha haaa!! It’s not for me!!
@@paulreidphotography hahahahahaahhahahaha thought so. his older work is great
I absolutely agree

Yeah I’m not sure I agree with the definition myself. It just seems to be how people categorise those images.
