From a nearby town to where this took place. The word of what happened is, the wife left with the kids about 3-4 weeks prior to the event, apparently the sheriff was abusive. The Judge was suspected by the sheriff of helping the wife, filing papers, judge was in contact with them etc. Sheriffs wife and oldest daughter would not return his calls and he had no idea where they had gone. He confronted the judge over lunch, went back to the chambers and attempted to call his wife and daughter from his (sheriffs) phone and they did not answer. He took the Judges phone and called his daughters number and the daughter then answered. The Sheriff hung up and the crime took place.
True or not, this is what people who know the sheriffs family and the Judges have passed along the streets in a small town. Just the messenger here, so if it turns out to not be true, my apologies up front.

I could see this. On court TV they just said the sheriff made the statement “they are trying to kidnap my wife and kid” after the shooting. And I wondered if the wife was leaving him and the judge was somehow involved.

I absolutely believe this scenario. What baffles me, is the gonfund me set up for the family utilizing a pic with the sheriff, wife and daughter in it. The GFM has curious language staing the daughter was not SA and don't want people donating under the assumption she was AND the money can not be used for sheriff's defense per GFM rules so they are requesting funds for family Why would they utilize that particular picture for a GFM for sheriff's wife and daughter?

There's been arrests of those in the judicial system arrested in the past in these small "Mayberry" towns. Including rx trafficking by a sheriff. Sx trafficking or assault would not surprise me. I, myself, was sx assaulted by a deputy in a larger town. There are good ppl in every profession. But there are also very, very bad ppl in them. The profession doesn't change the essence of a human.

So what’s interesting is that RUclips creator JD Delay made a video explaining he has a source that told him why the sheriff did this. Apparently the judge was as*aulting the sheriff’s daughter and allegedly told the sheriff “I’m a judge and I’m untouchable.” Or something like that. So now that you’ve said that, I think it strengthens JD Delays video.

Why does the defense attorney know more then the lead investigator? There are so many cases where the detective goes thru the phone immediately and phone data comes through within a day or two. It doesn't have to be dissected to see a lot of things. Something is going on here that the lead investigator is hiding. Again he can say hearsay right now and refuses to by playing ignorant. I don't get it. They need to bring outside investigators that are impartial. The guy killed the sheriff that's for sure and I believe he's guilty 100% but he's not going to get a fair trial and he will win in an appeal and go free. FIX THIS ISSUE NOW BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!

The Sheriff is a domestic abuser. His wife and daughter were trying to get away from him. They couldn't go to the police because he is the police. The daughter went to the Judge for help. The Judge was trying to help them both escape. He set it up. That explains the lunch...it was a distraction to keep the Sheriff busy while the wife and daughter left. The Sheriff discovered this after the lunch. He somehow figured out the Judge was involved(his wife probably told him). He confronted the Judge about it. The Sheriff tried to call both his wife and daughter. they didn't answer. So he demanded the Judge hand over his phone. The Sheriff then used that phone to call his daughter and she answered, which set him off and he killed the Judge. This explains why the Sheriff would say something along the lines of "they are trying to kidnap my wife and daughter." Just wait and see how much of what I just said ends up being true.

Late to watch this, but so glad you're covering this case. Have you seen the arraignment video for the sheriff? I feel like that was so weird. A public defender was there with the sheriff in custody before the judge. Prosecutor alleged that that public defender improperly solicited the defendant, the court had not appointed an attorney nor had the defendant taken steps to ask for a public defender. When the judge asked, the sheriff said that he had no lawyer & had not taken any steps to seek representation, the judge felt it unlikely that the sheriff was unable to afford an attorney yet no one objected to that public defender counseling & speaking on behalf of the defendant. Shouldn't that lawyer have been kicked out the second the sheriff basically said I have no lawyer, if not sooner when the prosecutor raised doubts about the propriety of that defender seeking to represent this high-profile client? The arraignment video is like 9 minutes & it just felt so weird to me watching it. That public defender is not at the defendant's table in this hearing, so I just have so many questions about what he was doing at the arraignment.

I learned a lot during that internship that I wished I had known as a cop but at any rate I can understand a lot of what is going on in this case, at least I have a feel for it. I think it is way to soon to take a side in this case, we hear the rumors of the judges interaction with the Sheriff's daughter who I understand is 17 years old, and having raised a daughter through those years, I can assure you that a father has a strong bond with his daughter, at least I did, and if I believed someone was making improper moves on her, I would surely have confronted him. Don't think I would have shot him but I don't know all of what is going on in that county, I understand there can be, and often are some strange folk who exercise a lot of illegal power over those folks. There was no arguing in the judge's chambers. It just shows the sheriff pulling out a gun and shooting the judge in cold blood. Sheriff waits until they get into the judge's chambers so no one can stop him and judge can't get anyone to help him. Looks like 1st degree premeditated murder to me.
Even if the sheriff was enraged before the encounter; he had time to cool down. If there was an issue with his daughter and the judge that was maybe improper then the judge should be reported. The judge has the right to due process. The sheriff should know this better than anyone.
