In This Week in MXA episode 147, presented by O'Neal Racing, we check out the all-new minis from Austria. KTM just launched their all-new KTM 65SX and 50SX two-strokes, both equipped with adjustable suspension, subframes and bodywork to move the seat height of the bikes to be positioned in low, standard or tall settings, allowing the bikes to grow with the rider. We saw the new 65SX up close while in Austria touring the KTM factory a few weeks ago, and Manfred Edlinger, the Head of Motocross Development for KTM, explained the exciting changes to the new bikes.

KTM’s modularity is one of the things I’ve always appreciated most about the brand. Sounds like this is expanding even more, which is awesome!

Question ... Should there be handlebar with higher rise available when I make this bike "bigger/higher"? If I lift up subframe, change suspension position but handlebar stay same than riders triangle changes. Taller rider should have taller handlebar or not?

When I was seven, I was too tall for one that was in 2020 I think the bike should be a bit bigger.

a 85cc bike with a slightly bigger frame and tires than the normal models then once you understand the bike and can rip on it then go up to the 125cc

The 65 is too small get an 85 to learn on

Id say a 250f. Hes 13 and gunna grow fast so get something that he can grow into. He will outgrow an 85 with in a year

For the very first time rider of that size I'd have them simply trail ride a Yamaha TTR230 to learn the basics. It's not a MX bike whatsoever and doesn't belong on the track. The next step would be either a yz125 or 250f. Maybe get a used trail bike to make sure it's something they even want to continue doing then get something better in another year. Just my opinion

At 5’7”, your kid should be on a full sized MX bike or a 125CC+ trail bike. If they want to go with a new 125cc mx bike, look at the Yamaha yz125.
