On playcalling - you see what Bates did over the MOF vs PHI so it's hard to discredit beating ATL outside the hashes when 1) we won and 2) Bates was essentially removed from the game (6 solo tackles, 0 passes defended). The Broncos game we had the lead for the whole game and imo were never really in a position where it felt like we NEEDED a touchdown on THIS drive to keep the game from getting out of hand. With that in mind, you make a good point of considering what kind of tape you want to put out there. I think back to the first game after Canada's departure vs the Bengals last year. First play of the game is a 25 yarder to Muth in the seam because Cincy sold out to stop the run in the early downs. I would also like to see more points as a fan but how much of the playbook do you want the rest of the league to have access to when they're doing prep? If you're Jim Harbaugh right now what are you telling your defense this week? If defense shuts down LAC in week 3, what are you drawing up as the Cowboys DC? Nobody has seen the Steelers 2024 offense in a must score 2 minute drill. I think that is more valuable than it's given credit for.
Dude washington is a God damn beast. A linebacker is too slow and a dB is too small. I've been saying it forever. Get him involved. Get ahead of the sticks on early downs. Use the middle of the field like you said. Little hook routes where the linebacker would have to go through him. And also down by the goal line, like last week. It's unstoppable. Don't over complicate the game. Start using mismatches that we can exploit.
Love the show. I really hope Tomlin is looking at the long journey of the season. As long as the offense continues to improve and the TDs mixing in, I hope we will be firing on all cylinders by week 11 or 12.
I had been following Kev since 2015 and been repping this podcast since day 1 and every episode you guys bring the juice i live for it. part of me leans towards jerry because it’s definitely going to be tight on both sides of the ball but the more i think about it, being at home, playing in front of this steelers crowd, home opener, being 2-0, renegade in the 4th i mean it’s no brainer for me when i think about that. Russell Wilson had an MRI last week and it shows a calf strain. The thing is these can easily turn into a snapped achilles tendon so that's why they are being so cautious with russ.
