- Columbia University has extended remote classes at its main New York City campus for the rest of term amid tense Gaza war protests that have spread to US colleges nationwide.
The hybrid learning comes as some students have reported antisemitic harassment around Columbia's campus.
Some 133 were arrested on Monday in protests at New York University. Dozens of arrests were also made in rallies at Yale, while Harvard has restricted access to the campus.
Gaza war demonstrations have also cropped up at colleges in the US Midwest and on the West Coast, where one campus has been closed.

The first amendment of the US constitution includes the right of the people peaceably to assemble. The right to protest is a fundamental part of any democracy. Try living in a country where this right doesn’t exist.
Well if those students do have link to terrorism or commit a crime while protesting,( destruction of property, harassment and assaults, etc) they can go to jail, get expelled, and if they are a foreign national, get deported.

I attended a protest at Columbia University yesterday. You couldn’t actually get into the courtyard unless you had a student ID. So there was a little protest on a side street where students and non-students could interact. The protesters were non-violent and stayed on the sidewalk. They chanted “free Palestine” “stop funding/arming Israel” “Israel is a fascist state” “stop funding genocide.” All of their anger was directed at the Israeli and US governments and Columbia University. Non of it was directed at Jewish students or the Jewish religion, in fact a significant number of the protesters were themselves Jewish.
Columbia students would walk by and didn’t seem bothered by it. If anything, I saw a few smile and record themselves at the protest.
Despite this, I see the politicians and news media label this as “violent antisemitic protesters who support terrorists” 🤦♂️

I think if you asked the average person about what’s going on in Palestine they’d tell you they don’t like civilians being killed, they don’t want anyone being held hostage, and they don’t want a terror group being able to do what Hamas did on Oct 7. What you don’t hear at Pro Israel rallies is talk of wiping people out, racist chants, and aggressive behaviour. The people at these protests are largely so lost and unaware of the antisemitism that is ingrained in the movement.

What angers me the most about these student protests is that they speak only in slogans. They don’t articulate their true vision. When they say things like, “Free Palestine. ” what precisely do they intend to do with the 6,000,000 Jews (half of the world’s Jewish population after the Holocaust) who live there. Are they planning to build massive gas chambers with crematoria for them, or do they just plan to throw them into the sea the way Egyptian President Nasser threatened back in 1967. If the students have such a great vision for the future, they should articulate precisely what it is. The truth is, they are clueless. They know very little about the history of the conflict. I would urge anyone reading this to, at the very least, watch the PBS (yes leftist liberal PBS) documentary called, “Six days in June.”

The university students are the best and brightest of us all, society suffers every day that the administration is unwilling to listen to them. All they are requesting is a reallocation of university investments away from those that support genocide.
This is shame, regarding the troubling events unfolding at universities across the United States. The recent actions of law enforcement entering campuses and targeting students who advocate for ending the violence and suffering in Gaza is deeply distressing.
As a supporter of justice and peace, witnessing such actions in the country who claimed defending democracy in the world is disheartening. The freedom to express solidarity with those affected by conflict should not be met with force and suppression.

As a parent who is spending enormous amounts of money to send my kids to university this is unacceptable. These are learning institutions and swift actions should be taken against students who choose to protest including revoking their visas because it’s a violation of students visa. There is a time and place for everything and disruption of classes and creating violent and unsafe environments for students is unacceptable.
Many of those protesting ARE American!!! Born in the USA! Revoke what visa? Send them back where?

It is not only the protest it is harrasment of people simply because they are jews to. I am sure most of theese jewish kids have never even been to Israel.
Here in Sweden many jewish people are scared to go out and parents are afraid to send their children to school. We speak about jews who are citizens since many generstions and who have nothing to do with the conflict in the middle east. There have also been murderplots orchestrated by Iran.
All this is especially true regarding Malmö, Europes most racist city, with a lot of arab immigrants who have invaded during the last decades. President Obama even sent a special envoye there to investigate the antisemitism. In Malmö there were also celebrations, flags and arabs in cortege after the oct 7.
It is sad conflicts are in a way imported and fought on other countries soil, especially at schools and universities. Therse places should be especially characterized by peace and tolerans. To have teachers who use the word awsome when speaking about the attocities oct 7 is disgusting.
