My grandparent's home was on Town Terrace and the back garden looked onto river and Kilner Bank. My Grandmother was a regular in the Cow Shed and told fond stories of a young Denis Law training on the cinder car park opposite. My parents left with 4 children to Australia.... as a keen footballer I dreamt of returning and playing at Leeds Road.... I eventually returned as a fan for a few games in 1983 in 1988....... A teaching exchange in 1998 allowed me to witness the new stadium for two half seasons and was blown away by the new stadium. Well done George, a fantastic job and a shrewd operator.... should be a statue ( I have been back to catch up with games 6 more times..... a long bloody flight mind!!)
Absolute treat and a privilege to watch this. Thank you Town. Absolute gold mine of trivia and memories.
Legend George Binns
Are you watching Kev? This is the calibre of back room staff we expect! Common sense, loyalty and COMPETENCE. Binns doesn’t need to tell us how good he is and was. It’s bleedin’ obvious. All we need do is listen to him describe what he has achieved and how. The comparison with you ‘ask Jake’ and ‘leadership team’ is also bleeding obvious. This is what Town fans deserve. It’s also what we expect. Forget global this, that and the other. Get competent people who love the club.
In late 60's,not promotion season,we had a wonderful "settled" team for umpteen games in a row. Oldfield/ Parkin Cattlin/Nicholson Coddington Meagan/ Hellawell Clark Leighton Dobson Hill. That was a Great Team from 1 to 11. If I'm not mistaken John Coddington's grandson was on HTFC books a few years ago,as a goal-keeper.
Very happy memories of the old Leeds Road. Remember the Barnsley game 29,000 and many other games some drizzly winter games, some joyous celebrations all in all a fundamental part of my growing up now 59 years old.
Great insight into the origins of the stadium. Also the organisation and enterprise shown by George and his fellow colleagues in having the vision and the tenacity to get the funds in place to get the project off the ground. It needs some TLC but I'm proud to call it home as a Town fan.
Great to see George looking so well. Well done George and the team.
My dad used to go see the games there when he was a teen
Richard Faulkner in the end, ended up playing lead guitar for Judas Priest. He’s known as Richie now.
Fantastic interview and great to hear boothy doing the interview.
Get Boothy doing all the interviews. The usual bloke does far too much grovelling .
@@gav1nwood I agree, can't say enough goods things about boothy, absolute club legend, and a decent bloke.
More of this please, fantastic to listen to such a town legend as George.
Brooky next ?
A brilliant interview involving two legends of our beloved football club.
wow this was a blast from my past ,, I did my first yts job at old leeds road ground, george used to prowl around the ground keeping a keen eye on everyone ,, nice bloke though, and this was
an amazing story and well told , I was enthralled by it well done all and well told george 👍
Great interview, but would it have killed Boothy to have 3 cameras on and an intern edit it afterwards to make it as visually dynamic as it was audibly stimulating! Keep this kind of media coming but let's polish it up! ❤
Ha ha, I thought exactly the same thing! There must be a few cameras knocking about, if not ask kev to buy a couple for the office!! If there's really nobody there to edit it send me the bloody files and I'll do it for you. 😂😂
Very interesting banter. Many happy memories from Leeds Road days, far more than the new Leeds Road. I still have dozens of photos from Blackpool game and the Reserves game Vs Middlesbrough(played on Friday 13th May,we won 6-3 and last goal EVER was scored by Paul Crowther from Golcar). GREAT DAYS NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN.
The old ground so many memories I met George a few times -glad to see he’s still knocking about - lovely fella.
I was at the Bryan Adams gig, the place was rocking sounded so good with the help of new stadium (summat to do with acoustics & shape of roof.
Just one mistake at the beginning when we played Sheffield United it was 2-2 tempest and Robinson scored for town crowd was 4,416 Sheffield United finished in 18th so no promotion and Carnt remember national TV cameras were there but we're there for the Portsmouth game
Happy days!
Terrific memories of the Leeds rd ground.
Started watching as a young lad in the Johnson/Greaves era,
I was sluffed when the old ground was gone.
It seems to be more good fortune than anything else with the construction of the new stadium
More common sense, resourcefulness and competence than anything else
30 years later the stadium and the ownership model is a joke. A failed project.
Really?
I love our stadium, and it is going to get improved soon.
@@martinbailey-xj7hc There’s nothing to love about it. I struggle to see with all the issues it has how that stadium can become a driver for success. It’s built for a bottom end championship /league 1 club imo.
You struggle to see??
99% of the seats has an unobstructed view.
@@MaxHTFC How does it stop success exactly?

Thought he was dead
Town supporters for more than 80 years. Deserves utmost respect. Not the easiest of paper rounds by any means. You’ve got to let your head rule your heart
My dad and his mates always stood in the old cowshed
My first Town game was in the cow shed. I always thought it was 1 nil to Town Vs Hartlepool with a Kieran O'Regan late penalty, but I can't find the record of that game anywhere 🤣 hazy recall to say the least 🤷♂️
