4771 Green Arrow: A Dying Flame

- Footage of much missed LNER V2, 4771 Green Arrow, on the East Lancashire Railway in October 2007 and January 2008, prior to its withdrawal and subsequent static display within the National Railway Museum.
The first shots of her on the freight were rather fortuitous in that we had been informed that she would perform some early morning run-pasts, for the small fee of £10. Given the weather, no-one else turned up, and the crew, who were rather surprised that anyone was there, duly delivered 3, before continuing to Ramsbottom. With no organiser present, there was no-one to pay, and we departed happy, but with a strange sense of guilt! Needless to say, if there is any prospect of an appeal, the tenners are ready and waiting.
Beautiful video. Great editing. A static display is important too, but this video with her rake of cars shows todays youth that these were very capable and powerful locos.
One of my favourite locomotives
It may be my passion for the smaller engines, but I have always preferred the v2s to other Gresley locos
I like to think that Green Arrow is a smaller version of the much loved Flying Scotsman
There are rumours that green arrow may come back to steam in near future
Yes If heard that too, let’s hope it’s true!
@@Linesider1 yeah let’s find out
My favourite Gresley class. I've had some great runs behind her over the years, much missed indeed. Thanks for reviving memories of that magical beat. Alan
Thanks Alan - mine too, such a good looking, strong, great sounding engine. Has it all really - would love to have seen them at work on the Waverley Route. David.
a nice set of shots.....
good to hear the famous 'gresley beat', that syncopation of the exhaust sound, captured so well in peter handford's waverley route recordings...
Many thanks John. One wonders whether we might, just, somehow, see a V2 on the Waverley Route again. The holy grail would of course be over Whitrope, but I'd settle for Green Arrow anywhere on the route, or indeed any other line - a superb engine.
Wonderful footage David, it's such a shame that this sole survivor is no longer in working order....it's a much loved loco....Bob
Many thanks Bob. If I had a time machine I'd be pointing it to the 50s or 60s and the Waverley Route, to experience these loco's doing what they did best. Ho hum, who knows what might happen one day!
4771 is too old to be in service but i glad he is still exist
@@thatoneguythatlikesship The flying scotsman is 99, why would this be too old to exist?
Great footage of Green Arrow David including some unique shots. Luckily I got to see her on the S&C before she disappeared and would love to see her again. Chris
Great video David of a much missed loco. Very impressed by your three personal run pasts!
Thanks Austin - we couldn't believe our luck really, and despite the weather, it will remain a special memory given the loco. Just wish someone could run her on the mainline, if an appeal could be launched.
Brilliant video of this great loco. That is unfortunately no longer on mainline. A loco sadly missed. Wonderful locational clips that you will remember on that special day. C&A
Many thanks - I'm glad we made the effort to see her as much as possible when at the ELR. Would love to see her return one day, preferably on the S&C.
I really hope the NRM fix the v2 all though unfortunately they say they won't due to money and how expensive the repairs will be :(
that won`t happen they can`t find that piece or even know how to build it
ted poo what went wrong with it
Shame we can no longer see her in motion.
When will she be back out?
Do you think we will see a new v2 built or see green arrow steam again
James Hardy my grandad works at NRM and he said they may restore it
David
Your secret is safe with me!
Noel
Haha - thanks Noel!
A Mechanical Dinosaur.....
