Amtrak Auto Train Shunting at Lorton

  • While waiting to board my Auto Train to Sanford, I did what any reasonable railfan would do and record as much switching action as I could at the Lorton terminal before boarding. Also included is a quick clip at the Sanford terminal at the end since it's the only footage I was able to get there before disembarking and getting my car.

    That P32-8 sounds so cool!! It's interesting how you can hear the HEP generator whining at different RPMs as it throttles up

    12:09 an e bell on the dash 8. This is something that I usually don’t see on an Amtrak dash 8.

      i think there are also 3 other D8s that have those e-bells

    I'll never stop being surprised that just two P40DC's have enough tractive effort between them to haul an Auto Train. I seriously thought that it'd take at least three, just like with the ol' New River Train in West Virginia, but nope.

      Just came back from a trip involving it, so I figured why not upload some more footage. That, and it was my first time on the Auto Train to begin with.
