    I realized that time puts constraints on content, however, overlooking the likes of; Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Barbara Stanwyck, seems to be a bit gaffe. I want to point out also Ida Lupino. Not only a great actress but a successful movie director when the industry was ruled by male directors.

    What an amazing decade! In fact there was so much cinema history in the 1940s that we couldn’t include it all in one video. So let us know in the comments what you love most about this golden age in Hollywood!
    Second edit: we now have an updated version of this video WITHOUT the music and with the addition of actresses Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Barbara Stanwyck and Ida Lupino. You can check it out at this link ruclips.net/video/JMUSGqNgwl0/видео.html
    Edit: We get the impression you don't like the music? haha just kidding, we got the message loud and clear and we are working on it. We may not be able to resolve the issue for this video but we've certainly made note of it for future videos.
    We've also made note that you'd like longer videos so that we can include more. This is so great to hear! We're very happy that people are so interested in the content.
    We'd also love the comment section to be an opportunity for likeminded people to share their love of film and television. Please let us know your favourites from this era and any knowledge/ facts you may have about the topic too! Please be mindful of keeping your comments respectful.

    To me, the films of the 1940' s could be divided into two categories, "The War Years" & " The Noir Years"!
    While the second half of the decade introduced many young actors, who would go on to become Hollywood's
    new "establishment", e.g. Lancaster, Douglas, Brando, Curtis, Hudson, Heston, Ryan, etc., it still could not
    compare to the plethora of great films made in the second half of the 1930's, American film's finest period!

    Shocking that you did not mention the great, very great BETTE DAVIS who still holds the record with 5 CONSECUTIVE OSCAR NOMINATIONS
    among her 11 overall Nominations with two Oscar victories. She gave some of the greatest performances in the 1940's with films such as THE LETTER,
    THE LITTLE FOXES, the iconic NOW VOYAGER (1942), MR. SKEFFINGTON (1944), THE CORN IS GREEN (1945) not to mention her great work in
    "The Man Who Came to Dinner", "Watch on the Rhine"(1943)....... then she had her first and only child and in 1946 made DECEPTION co-starring
    Paul Henreid and Claude Rains who were both in NOW VOYAGER. When she left Warner Brothers, she gave one of the greatest screen performances
    of all time as Margo Channing in ALL ABOUT EVE (14 Oscar Nominations (still the record) in 1950. I consider her the greatest female film actor of all time.
    Only Meryl Streep (who worshipped Bette Davis and learned her craft by watching Miss Davis's old films, according to Miss Streep herself, matches the brilliance
    of Bette Davis. Two Great Divas. .......... January 21, 2023....... Love you Both!!!

    Thanks for the video. My favorite period in American film. So many fabulous actors and tight and intelligently written dialogues - A rarity in modern cinema. Maybe the video is a little too compressed, there is a lot of interesting information that you barely have time to digest, a few breaks wouldn't hurt. (Unfortunately, there is one thing that drags the video really down: The ridiculously annoying two-bar "1940s vibe background music(?!)" and even worse, all over the entire video, it's unbearable. Try listening to music from the 1940s. "1940ne vibe" doesn't sound like cheap "Phone On Hold Music". If the next video needs the same kind of "Soundtrack", please text the video so I can mute the sound :) There are also issues with the level and sound of the speak.) I hope next time you will be a little more critical about the soundtrack, because the information and images in the video are very good and I really want to like, to like the video.

    PLEASE CHANGE THE SOUND TRACK! I had to stop watching because of the same phrase over and over and over! I felt trapped on a hellish roller skating rink. I love the narration and the stories but I won't watch again until the sound is varied. Thank you! A Fan

      We've uploaded another version of this video without the music which you can watch at the link below. Unfortunately we couldn't change it on this video without also losing the narration so we uploaded the new version separately. We hope you find it more enjoyable!

      Francine Harbour:
      FYI: With a hellish skating rink, since you are the one doing the skating, you can just stop all that skating, and get off the rink, at anytime!
      Unlike an out of control merry-go-round, or roller coaster, where the
      riders are stuck going around and around!
      Feel criticized? Well, just how do you think the creator of this video feels?

    Sorry to be negative but the incessant background "music" is so intrusive l had to stop watching. Why did you feel it necessary to add this to your video? It adds nothing and is terribly irritating!

      Yes we received this feedback and have uploaded an edited version without the music. Unfortunately we couldn’t change it on this one so we had to upload a separate version. If you’d like you can watch it here…

    Why is someone with a British accent narrating a film on American life?!?!?;?;

    • @cinemaretrospective
      @cinemaretrospective  Год назад +1

      Australian actually. We did wonder if viewers would have a problem with that but we just find the topic of entertainment history interesting ourselves so decided to make it the focus of our channel. We’re also working on a video that looks at the history of Australian cinema so hopefully everyone can enjoy that one too.

      Harriet Weber:
      Why not? Whether the accent is Australian,
      British, Scottish, Irish,
      South African, Or Canadian...
      We, as well as Americans
      are all speaking our own language, which is English!
      Or, in your part of the USA is it only those of us who are American, citizens who should be allowed to speak of
      anything pertaining to the USA?
