She is Not a breakout star! She is a legendary actress in Korea. Just because she is not known in America does not mean she is unknown for the rest of the world! Cmon!
So arrogant to think that just because she's new to America, she is a "breakout" star. America is not the center of the world. She has been acting for decades in Korea.
Meryl Streep should flattered to be compared to her. Stop reaching and acting like that nominated for a record 21 Academy Awards, of which she has won three, and a record 32 Golden Globe nominations, winning nine????
@@whizzzy7185 Murica. Those awards you listed are only in the US. Each country has their own awards. It’s not like the olympics where it’s a global competition. Also, those you listed heavily favor whites.

@@whizzzy7185 I love Meryl Streep and she is amazing, but Youn Yuh-jung has also won a ton of awards in South Korea. America isn't the only country that has big film awards.
This woman is a phenomenal talent. I discovered her years ago in watching Korean dramas and movies but what a thrill it was to see her here in Minari. She doesn’t need American attention or praise I believe she knows who she is and the talent she possesses. It was nice seeing on GMA though.
The disrespect... The introduction hardly recognized Youn Yuh-Jung’s legendary acting career. The only thing these interviews ever is that she is South Korea’s Meryl Streep. She has made a presence and name for herself in the film industry, and doesn’t need an American reference or comparison. Featuring her on your show doesn’t make it progressive if you don’t even credit her in your title, let alone pronounce her name correctly.
Youn is a true legend👍👍 Her acting career in Korean films and entertainment industry spans nearly five decades and she has always been willing to take up the challenge to play such versatile characters.
She's an amazing actress who is a veteran in this industry! She has played a wide range of roles in Korean moves and dramas from kind hearted character to villainess. She has received many prestige rewards in Asia already so it's thrilling to see she is nominated for prestige awards in the US!
I love her!!! I've seen her in several Korean dramas and movies, and she's great in every one. She is a legend in Korea! Wow, she speaks English, too. I hope she wins!!!
She does have international fans since KDrama enjoys global viewership. But so happy to see her in an American film this time and getting recognition as a superb actress!!
I've watched many many dramas she's in and she never disappoints, one of my favourite was "Be strong Geum Soon," a 2005 kdrama, she also cooks on "yun's kitchen," just adore her!
Everything for americans are “breakout star”....sigh...there is another world outside the bubble of hollywood guys...she’s highly respected and is even called ‘a teacher’ by other actors
윤여정 배우님! She is a legend!! She has been in the movies and dramas for more than five decades!! She has been acting so many different characters. Good to see you at GMA
Wow breakout star.. She has already won the best actress prize at Sitges international Film Festival with her FIRST movie in 1971. She is a living LEGEND in Korea. A frog in the well knows nothing of the great ocean.
This is such a masterpiece. One of the best films I've ever seen. I will always be thankful to A24 for giving a voice to so many brilliant young indie filmmakers.
I’m gonna be so annoyed if she doesn’t get a Best Supporting Oscar nod 😩 she was so great and it sucks that award shows typically only reward “showy” roles and not the more subtle ones
I agree she is a legend in Korea of course, but what I always loved about her is her honesty and funkiness. She is a great human being and a role model for many woman.
Judging by the comments here we got the same sentiment towards M'Youn. Stop comparing her to anyone from Hollywood. She is who she is. Her work is hers only. Have the decency to know her work and acknowledge her for her craft first before interviewing. This Applies to any foreign actors/actress worldwide. Breakout star? What are you talking about?
I would say Breakout Star of Minari would be Alan Kim. For Yuh-Jung Youn I would say maybe crossover star since she’s a legend in South Korea but this is the first time American audiences are getting to know her
Iconic Korean actress for many years... not new. Just new to the US. Korea has gifted actors and produces amazing films that the US doesn't even know about because... reading!
she's been around more than 50 years in Korea. She's been know for her intelligence and witty humor never tired of acting.World is getting smaller thanks to IT technology. Americans have to accept diversity and variety to their culture. Thanks GMA for having Yuh Jung.
Watching this makes me about to cry. I never got that chance to do that with my grandma. She has gone to heaven 2 years ago, didn't even have the chance to say a proper goodbye.
You know Korean dramas are recognized these days and this lady Yoon has been one of those major parts for last few decades.. I am almost 40 and I grew up watching her dramas.. This is amazing and unbelievable. ^^ Congrats Yoon Yeo Jung Sun Saeng Nim ^^
for being a Korean actress, her English in this interview was superb! and she was so humble about the Meryl Streep comment. Even though we know that she is is her OWN legendary star in Korea. well done!
what’s with america thinking that the entire world revolves around them? ‘breakout star’? really?? put some respect in her name or AT LEAST include her name in the title ffs
Hardly a breakout star when she has a career spanning over 5 decades. She’s in COUNTLESS K dramas and movies. And if you take into account the Hallyu Wave, the whole continent of Asia and many countries in Europe, North America...etc. have seen her and her movies, she is a SUPERSTAR.
If you are addicted to Korean video, as I am, you know this lady is one of the two or three prime actors in grandmother roles. In South Korea she is an institution.
I cant believe the title of this video! She is crazy famous in South Korea. Most kdrama watchers have seen her too, but she is super well known in Korea
She is Not a breakout star! She is a legendary actress in Korea. Just because she is not known in America does not mean she is unknown for the rest of the world! Cmon!
Totally agree with you!
So true
The U.S is the only country in the world
[Sarcastic]
True 🤣🤣 it’s America who is late. Why we have to always follow their label on everything.
So American POV haha
She’s hardly a breakout star when she’s been around for decades. We’re now just catching up with this South Korean legend
She's been acting for over 50 years. Everyone calls her Suhnsaengnim = teacher/master.
She's been a famous actress in Korea for 50 yrs!!!! Yep!!! I've been watching her for that long!!
Right?!
“Catching up!!” That’s wiser and better put than this news title 👍🏻
America! C'mon!
Calling a woman of her age a breakout star almost feels like you're mocking her.
Typical of America though. New and foreign to them = adorable and cute in that awwww we find you fascinating like a fun science experiment! way 🙄
I agree. Extremely condescending.
She's a legend in Korea.
This woman has been everyone’s mother/grandmother/guardian. She is no breakout star. She is a classic.
So arrogant to think that just because she's new to America, she is a "breakout" star. America is not the center of the world. She has been acting for decades in Korea.
Exactly! The arrogance of western media. I live in Jamaica. I have seen this wonderful actress in so many dramas and movies.
They think they're the main character here omg😭
so true
So true..
So true
She’s a legend. Meryl Streep should flattered to be compared to her. She is the Youn Yuh Jung of Korea not Meryl Streep of Korea.
Exactly

Tbh I don’t think they did a horrible job pronouncing her name, just that they said it in Western order.

She has always been recognised internationally.

She is one of the best actors in south Korea. So proud of her nominating and hope she gets the best result!
She lived 9 years in the US after she got married. That's why her English is as good as it is.

Ms Youn, from Youn Stay :-) So happy to hear she is being recognized for her acting. I hope she gets lots of awards during awards season.

Congrats to her for being the first Korean actress to be nominated for an Oscar. 🙌🏻🙌🏻
She definitely had the best performance in the flim.
SHE'S A LEGEND! The ones who are interviewing her should have done their research aside from the information given to them.
EMBARRASSING for GMA to call her a "breakout star" when she's walking an unrivaled road for 50 years.
She is a well respected super star in South Korea. Her acting was phenomenal in MINARI.
I love a "breakout" Hollywood moment for this legendary Korean treasure. We are all rooting for you, Ms. Youn!

Ms Youn you are amazing. I’ve been enjoying your performances in dramas for years 💜💜💜

It's maddening for two reasons:
1. A legendary actress is called a "BREAKOUT" star. An absurd title
2. The title doesn't even want to mention her name
She is just absolutely WONDERFUL 👏. Breakout star? Please. She is bigger star than any of u put together in studio
