    I feel the argument is too specified to Marvel & DC; when people say Manga vs Comics they mean manga vs Marvel & DC & they don’t even know it because Marvel & DC don’t show how versatile American comics can be. There are several American comics that have remained consist but they’re outshine generally by Marvel & DC. Some of these projects have been adapted & received well like Hellboy, Invincible, etc. After the comics, then come with Holloywood’s adaptation which most often then not nerf it & make it bad. So the thing is, the indie comics need to be given more attention because they’re the gold mine & if they replaced mainstream western comics we could see them matching Japanese comics sales of not surpassing it due to them already being held to the standard of inclusivity. Luckily indie comics are already starting to outsell mainstream American comics. All they need is a mainstream adaptation to get more readers

      Hard agree. I'm not too fond of Marvel and DC comics, but more rather various indie comics/graphic novels, or comics based on other smaller pre-existing series/media. While I'm certainly not a huge comic book reader, I've encountered, read, and enjoyed an array of indie stories/ comics that are undeniably different from I own opinions, viewpoints, and ideals, from genres I never thought I'd read as a kid (this fact extends to video games and movies as well). I haven't folded or rejected my original beliefs per se, but I allowed myself to be curious enough to give that particular story a chance.
      I've enjoyed and related to stories and characters that kinda look like me and look nothing like me, and this all came from small indie stories/comics who genuinely tried to make an interesting story out there. If I didn't enjoy it, that's my loss; if the author is new to story telling, I'll ease up a little and accept when mistakes are made and hope they do better next time. Even in gigantic disaster-pieces like the Rings of Power series, there were shreds and tiny flecks of golden story telling that had me engaged and curious, even if they ended getting buried in the end.
      All that to say, Hollywood/big company "story tellers" have larger competition than they did 20 - 30 years ago, be it from manga or other comics entirely. People's tastes have changed and the option to give their time, interest, and money to other smaller comic/manga creators has become ever shinier and more satisfying as a result, but that's just from a random person on the 'net.

    They are a lot easier to make (or at least easier to publish), meaning they can bring much more varied perspectives and styles.
    I recommend Aurora by OSP Red, but i would also suggest researching for one that you would enjoy!

    The whole manga vs comic debate that started around 2-3 years ago and is kinda still happening is very dumb to me.
    Why? Cause they’re both media that uses visual story telling to creat stories. You can have a dog shit manga and amazing comic and vis verses. You can have a manga that has every minority under the sun and have a comic that only appeals to straight white dude in their incel era and vis verse. Manga and comics are allow to be good and bad. One of them isn’t solely better then the other. I enjoy manga since it’s written by the same person and the art style. I enjoy comics/graphic novels by how they treat their minority groups compare to manga. If you believe that manga is better then comics due to not being “woke”
    1- manga literally has message about friendships, acceptance, and etc
    2- manga also has a lot of progressive politics in them. While some are handle better then others. It’s still there.
    So can this whole debate just die. Like I know it won’t but still

    "Why can't we let our characters just be bad?" Because it's entertainment, thus it's needs to be entertaining.
    Your question is the same as "why can't chefs serve bad food".
    They have the right to to try different things but we as the consumer have the right to critique and disengage when the food is bad or when the writing is.

    • @ScritRighter
      @ScritRighter  7 месяцев назад +9

      The point of the question "Why can't we let our characters just be bad?" is meant to point out that one can simply acknowledge that something is bad and move on. But instead, we have people who actively try to form conspiracy theories as to why something is objectively bad, and what it says about our society.
      There's a difference between, "This food sucks, and i'm gonna find somewhere else to eat." and
      "THIS FOOD IS TERRIBLE, AND ALL FOOD IS TERRIBLE AROUND ME BECAUSE THE CHEFS ARE USING TOO MUCH ETHICALLY SOURCED PRODUCTS. THEY'RE BEING PAID OFF BY THE FARMING INDUSTRY TO SHOVEL THEIR ORGANIC SLOP DOWN MY THROAT."
      One is allowing food to be bad and simply putting your energy towards finding and paying for good food instead, and the other is what people tend to do with media when they consume it.
      I'm not saying you can't critique things, but it should also be remembered that a critique is pretty much always going to fall into a subjective opinion, and a valid criticism of one show does not say something about the genre as a whole or an industry as a whole.

    • @selfimprovement5873
      @selfimprovement5873 7 месяцев назад +12

      @@ScritRighterThen just say that. There was a lot more I wanted to say because the implications in this video alone were wild.
      "We use logic..." to support our feelings. Of course, or are you implying that is bad? We shouldn't use logic to explain our feelings and we should all be quiet and let these corporations feed us whatever?
      Honestly, you and people like me are always going disagree on conspiracy theories. I'm ok with that. Companies aren't there for the consumer, they are there for the money. Doesn't matter if it's pharmaceuticals, food, or entertainment- it's all the same.
      But I didn't come to your channel to talk about that, so that is all I will say.

    • @ScritRighter
      @ScritRighter  7 месяцев назад +5

      @@selfimprovement5873 Using logic to justify emotions is basically coming to a conclusion first and then working your way backward.
      It's important to recognize when opinions and ideas we hold are because of bias and emotion, and to acknowledge that those things can be valid on their own merits. There does not need to be any further justification for not liking a certain thing aside from "I just don't like it". You don't need to find something 'objective' to dislike because it's not going to make your opinion any less subjective. All it's going to do is give you the illusion that it is.
      Being quiet has its benefits. Nothing kills the profits of a certain story or show than when no one is talking about it. If they have gotten you to complain about it, then they have gotten you to care about it. And if you care about it, that means you are supporting it through your conversation whether you intend to or not. If you want something to die, then leave the space and support other things.
      We can admit to ourselves that sometimes complaining about things we dislike is its own type of fun and satisfaction. There's nothing wrong with that. But to pretend as if you'd be doing some sort of social, systemic, or moral good by criticizing a piece of media is silly.
      There are certainly things which must be protested and called out, though. Things which are inherently harmful to consumers (such as led in food). Things which are undeserving of success (such as plagiarized work). But sometimes the most effective way to get rid of something you dislike watching is to stop watching it and stop talking about it.

    1:19 Okay, it's not related to comic books. But I really, really, really, really, REALLY don't like big series written by multiple people that I've dubbed "The Star Wars Too Big Effect", where the whole universe feels like a bunch of people gathered in a circle doing a d@ck measuring competition, to see who can make this biggest, coolest, strongest, most expensive ship/planet/superweapon/empire- yada yada yada yada, you get it. Sometimes, thinking like this can work; Warhammer has so many stupidly overpowered superweapons that it's either commonly used or so dumb it's funny. But do I need to explain why it doesn't work for Star Wars most- if not all the time? Like it isn't cool when the... IDK, eight hundredth superweapon shows us, and everyone is shocked and terrified- even though they have a Jedi, so they're safer than anyone because they are working with a Gods and will more likely get killed by some guy in white armour, offscreen, die in a crash or if lucky get killed by the superweapon. In Warhammer, everyone is like.
    "They got a bigger gun, Commissar!"
    "Then bring out our bigger, bigger gun!"
    And the times people are shocked, it actually means something. I don't hate Star Wars; I hate the power-scaling- alright, that's harsh on the power scalers- idiots thinking it's cool when it isn't! Get your game together, or make your own universe instead of acting like you've done something when people before you put in the leg work and you just acted like you did something YOU HACK- [Monty Python Intermission Music]

    For the people bringing up shelf space is the reason Manga is better than comics, think about this, Manga's tend to reprint and repackage some of their stories. Dragon ball used to hog a lot of shelf space are now collected in "big book" 3 packs. One Piece alone fills up rows with the amount of single volumes and the earlier volumes are also being put out as "big books." Along with the amount of reprints, you also have the large genres since manga's are not just shonen jump collections. Now go over to the comics, you see some stories get reprinted, like a few Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and even some X-men stories, but collected editions are something the big two don't do as often as mangas. You're not going to see many reprints of stories back in the 80's cause cause that's not something they'll put their focus on. They'll print the collected volume if it sells out they'll move on, especially when things more digital. But when you go to a comic shop, it's the opposite where you will find more of DC and Marvel's collected editions.
    TL:DR Saying Manga is winning cause of more shelf space at book stores is really ignorant as Comics won't do as many reprints like Mangas.

    • @Birdhouseart
      @Birdhouseart 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@anaveragegamer359 Okay, that's not really changing the fact that you will see reprints of old mangas. Jojo goes back to the 80's and I'm seeing reprints of part 1 - 3 alongside the other parts. You can mention how the anime might've had a hand in this, but even DC or Marvel will rarely go back and reprint any of their older stories back from the 80's. Speaking of which you mentioned popular arcs, yes that's correct. You'll still see a Death of Superman or The Long Halloween get reprinted, but typically once they sell out, they're gone for years. But it's also Batman and Superman getting this treatment, like I mentioned in my previous comment, that's not going to extend to all because DC and Marvel aren't going to do that. Graphic novels are something they don't put too much stock in, otherwise you'll see more reprints of Wonder Woman, Flash, Fantastic Four, Iron Man. And none of these characters are niche so saying that is not really factor.
      The other thing I pointed out was that Manga has a larger range of genres. You're not going to read every manga cause it's going to appeal to different audiences. Comic's tend to set "shared universes" so most stories are going to be connected so the genre range can't wildly differ too much.

      @@Birdhouseart I've always wondered how American comics and manga turned out so differently. Cultural explanations can only go so far, and the only economic reason I could come up with is that manga on average is less expensive to produce than the average comic. Because it's less costly, there's less risk involved for a manga publisher should it flop, so there's room for variety while the higher cost of making a comic incentivises consolidation of production which is why comics are dominated by the superhero genre.
      I'm sure there are other reasons relating to the structure of their respective distribution models. I'll also bring up webcomics and (even graphic novels) and how they're just as varied in genre and demographic as manga, so it's not like the talent for making varied comics doesn't exist in the Western World. The state of American comics seems to be more of a failure in the economic model in which it operates more than anything.

    • @Birdhouseart
      @Birdhouseart 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@Zenitheus Agreed. The model itself is keeping American comics from evolving similar to how DC and Marvel both refuse to have a definitive end for their characters. People will state it's harder to get into comics for this reason where as with Mangas they can just pick up the first volume with ease. Even European comics tend to have an ending in mind for their stories, this tends to be a thought process more in America then anything.

    • @HobbiesofaMan
      @HobbiesofaMan 7 месяцев назад +1

      That's not true. Manga chapters and comic issues have the same amount of pages, more or less. But, you can say that comic volumes are shorter and more expensive than manga volumes, that's generally true but not exactly. And, issues are rarely sold anywhere accessible, only at comic shops, where as manga is even sold at the grocery store. so the idea that it's harder to browse the series without just looking at the cover is sorta true, but not because of the reason you mentioned.

    I think manga/manwah/ has more variety, an artstyle that just speaks more to people and isn't really concentrated in a few big studios doing the same characters day in day out.
    To be more elaborate:
    Most western comics I get access to, that aren't european comics (like asterix, tenten, spirou, werner, most of these aren't even written anymore) are superherocomics from either marvel or DC. Maybe spawn, if you are lucky. Or some darkhorse/icon stuff. And that's it. And all of these stories have lore going back to the sixtes or so, with five reboots. That is too hard to get in.
    Manga? Unless yougo with dragenball, One piece, naruto, etc, you can juist pick up 10 volumes and you are set. And you can consume them far more easily (har har).
    Maybe it's just me, but the artstyle of manga, which is very varied, also hasqualities that just draw you in. Again, maybe just something personal.
    And the big one: With manga, you don't go with the publisher, you go with the author. maybe I'm just not deep enough in American comics, with american comics, I get the feeling you are looking more for the characters than the story/author.
    And now my personal last touch: I think in the last few years, form the few stories I consumed as someone who seems themselves as pretty liberal, centrist, maybe even a bit progressiv, I think that especially in american comics, putting the message before the story, or at least shoehorning it in like a sore thumb iinstead of naturally integrating it into the story, has become more and more common. But again, I don't read toom much american comics, so I might be wrong.
    After all, in the little writing I do I like to make as many different types of characters I can, from all backgrounds and orientations. Just makes it more interesting. But I try to do more than just go: their personality is: black, gay, trans, hexa-decimal, sorry, non-binary, ect.
    Again, maybe that is just me, and if I'm wrong, I'm happy, and maybe I'm nt seeing the full picture, but again, that is how I percieve the situation.
    So, yeah, this is my ted talk for why I think what the problem with, especially american, comics are.
    And concerning those Antis (which was a camp I nearly drifted into at one point, ant I think was a good thing, as I learned to understand people like that, which is always good if oyu want to interact with people): there is a lot of politics in manga, we westerners just usually can't see it as we lack the cultural and societal context most of the time (example from games: ff7, shinrah).

    • @princecarmon5674
      @princecarmon5674 2 месяца назад

      to add to you well written/spoken ted talk, the thing that we might be missing here that japan (and most of east Asia) have formulated to a T is their genres system. whether it be anime, manga, manhwa, or light novel reader (excluding webtoons), you will always be given a variation or list or genres to find you specific story of you liking. even if its degenerate trash you can find it (with ease or some digging or too), this is something this agreed to an extent that the west is lacking or still needs to fix, as some or most story that are comics or storybook illustrations can be summed up as....well, comic books, children books or some other simple fiction or nonfiction book (but most fiction or nonfiction books are written text will some illustrious to them). now I would say that the advent of internet has made it easier to find said genres from the west but its still rather cluttered while simultaneously being scattered too find that on specific story that your looking for.

Because I don't know if I'm a good writer or anything like that but your videos helped me and I thank you. Some advice I'm unsure but thanks to you for your support on storytelling and tips. You, Schnee, and Local Scriptman for your tips so I appreciate how you explain storytelling to me. THis will be long comment but I like discussion as it helps me learn a lot from other viewpoints. Also I know you won't see this and I don't mind.
    Now for my perspective allow me to explain that this video represents how I feel about the West vs East entertainment debacle. If I ever see someone beg me to say which do you like more cartoons or anime? I would say BOTH or say I like one better based on categories. I mean both are fun for me. And I feel hating one is kind of weird for me.
    For example I mostly watch animation and I do like anime and cartoons both. I love cartoons for its animation styles and its characters. But as for anime I've loved its stories more and I enjoyed how they frame it.
    I feel scared for what's to come because after The Boy and Heron won I enjoyed that movie. People these days think The Boy and Heron's creator Hayao Miyazaki was their savior or something because of being anti woke. Which why? Miyazaki himself supports enviromentalism, he literally made his movies to be about dealing with war, generational trauma and supoorting the environment. He made Boy and Heron on his experiences with WW2 and dealing with trauma.
    People who keep stating foreign media is anti woke don't realize media is about a creator's experiences and their views on the world. And some have viewpoints we must understand
    Examples:
    Daisuke Ishiwatari made Guilty Gear and he makes characters to rebel against society and its norms. He made Bridget a character as Trans and Testament Nonbinary.
    Yoshirio Togashi who made Hunter x Hunter have different designs on characters. Because he supports the LGBTQ community alongside his wife Naoko Takeuchi who made Sailor Moon and that story had LGBTQ vibes.
    Hirohiko Araki made Sorbet and Gelato a inplied LGBTQ couple. As well as him being one of the few mangakas (that I know of) that does care for writing female characters. He even expicitly stated fear that he thought Jolyne and the Stone Ocean women would get hate because he didn't want to portray them as stereotypical as the oneshot character Gorgeous Irene.
    Anthony Gragmuglia a local youtuber made a video about Japan, Their Art and Culture War and yeah I agree with his points that japanese media has politics it wants to address. It's just frustrating people these days have bad media literacy or unable to change their biases.
    Look I know we live in a day and age where I do feel western media is dying someway. Animation shows in the mainstream either gets cancelled as well as stories unable to conclude Combined this with poor working conditions and companies only wanting endless entertainment. As well as AI and production dramas.
    But we also have to know the anime industry may not be thriving one day. Especially with anime MAPPA or other anime studios abusing their workers. (The poor JJK season 2 animators...) And they cancelled a anime that put them in the spotlight the Yuri On Ice. A beloved series that was about to have a movie released but this year MAPPA cancelled it like irs nothing. Yeah its small but it shows not every industry is perfect. So while it's true we have foreign media I don't wanna tackle or despise a country media.
    But for me look at the bright side I see Western Adult animation finally thriving. Such as Blue Eye Samurai a top leveled show about revenge and violence. Arcane a animated vidoe adaption that was the best show I have ever watched in a while and one of the best video game adaptions to a medicore MMO. Or Primal a show that I believe is Gennedy's masterpiece. And there's so much fun things to watch if we actually give some series a chance beyond their cultural background. I'm also enjoying indie animation and despite some shows not appealing to me such as Mobkey Wrench or have meh quality like Hazbin Hotel I hope this type of industry will thrive.
    I'm about to be watching Scavenger's Reign, X Men 97, Frieren and Delicious Party Dungeon and appreciate both pros and cons. So yeah I do feel there is bad things coming especially dealing with cancelled products, rushed products, AI or anything like that stuff. But for now I hope we can enjoy anything and analyzing it for fun. And it sucks enjoying a media all because of personal bias or spite.
    That's the end of my rant. Sorry I got this off my chest.
    (Also I liked the ending of Attack on Titan too.)

You see , writers cant do shit in there story anymore , most importent character cant have a big change cause that will be too risky , thats why the comics who do this are more high quality or memorable like injustice , second cause of the previously mentioned monopolization the world is too big and convolted . Just see the dc universe , there are thousend of heros , thousend of characters and million of vague rules and "powersystem" that make the world too compliex and a chore to know and not to mention the plot holes that are made cause of that which make the world of the story is such a mess .

      It's a double edge sword. On one end you have writers that can reinvigorate the series like Chris Clairmont or Peter J Tomosi and then get followed up with an absolute dumpster fire written by BMB or Jeph Loeb handling Ultimatum. Go from World War Hulk right into Red Hulk. It can be frustrating. Manga's will have more consistency in this, but because of how industry is handled, they also can go through burn out. Toriyama was pretty burned out after Cell that how handled the "new generation" stories were wildly different when he switched back over to buu and and I've lost count of all the people pointing out how Kubo isn't drawing backgrounds in Bleach cause he was also going through burnout.

      @@Birdhouseart a series won't need reinvigorate if the quality wasn't going down would it ? And a good story wont erase the bad stories and the problem with the world bulding caused by the world being capitlized to a one big superhero mess . Also for dragon ball it's clear the quality decreased after the cell ark and it's clear the mangaka wanted to stop but can't cause of the interest of companies like Toei, yet he still made good stories after that (the Morro arc was somewhat good ,buy arc was a mixed bag with great moment , ECT) . I don't see it as a double edge sword because the problems outweight the benfits and manga and comics show different extrems of these problems.

      @xdskiller3509 People were still crapping on Bleach for Kubo, not doing backgrounds. The quality still went down due to burnout. Both systems have their flaws, but they also have positives. Multiple writers can lead to too many cooks, but you also have different perspectives that can elevate characters. This is why people think Batman, they think of the animated series.

    • @BigToody
      @BigToody 7 месяцев назад +2

      I think the vague rules and power-systems can be an advantage.
      The beauty of multiple systems Is that characters feel unique. Because all their powers come from all types of sources. The avengers get a God, a gamma monster, Super Soldier, and an A-Tech guy. Justice League got a sun absorbing alien, a super Amazon warrior, a guy with a space ring, and a peak human who dressed like a bat. Multiple Systems make each character's powers so different. It makes everyone unique in their own way. The best part about Multiple Systems is We get to see how different systems react to each other. Like Thor's Hammer against Captain America shield. Iron Man technology against Dr. Strange magic. Each power has a background and origin that is so unique to the character theme. I can get bored when seeing Dragon Ball characters spamming the same blasts over and over. I'm tired of animes like Black Clover and Fairy Tail using their Power Systems to be a personification of the power of friendship to win battles. Multiple Systems makes it so it doesn't matter how strong or weak they are. There is more versatility in powers since characters are not operating on the same energy system.
      At the end of the day, it's subjective. And I like Both wish I can combine both.
      But if you had to pick one what would it be?
      One more thing I like to mention. The fights feel different when it comes to Both.
      Singular Power Systems feel like a boxing match. It feels like fights between two skilled MMA Fighter trying to best each other. Because again they operating on the same energy system. So fights come down to who has better skills and strategies.
      While Multiple Systems fights feel like one animal vs another type of animal. Like an animal kingdom fight.
      Lion vs Bear. Superman vs Shazam. Since their powers are different in nature. The fights feel like an animal kingdom fight.

      Eren Jaeger is and always has been a subversion of the Chosen One trope. I wasn't really surprised or found it out of character for any of his actions. I just feel people misunderstood Eren when he went into his 'sigma male' arc.
      Eren resigned himself to knowing that everything was a matter of destiny and beyond his own control. He knew the future and everything that would happen, and yet he could not change the outcome because that's how it was meant to go. He was a chosen one who figured out that his destiny was always to be the villain.
      Eren's motivations have also never been about "the friends we made along the way". His character has always been "Humanity being free of its cages". There are even multiple points in the show where characters allude to the fact that everyone is a slave to something, and no one is truly free. Even Eren was a slave to destiny until he died, and only when he died was he truly free of all his vices. Only when he died was he able to drop his mask.

    As a massive comic fan due to nostalgia and who is also as of right now expanding his view on manga by reading more, I have to say that there is no real definitive answer here. Both are just endless potential for enjoyable stories we can read, and it doesn't matter which you prefer or which you say is better cause your opinion means nothing. Think about it in the grand scheme of things, these are just works for us to enjoy and they are both capable of the same stuff. There's no real specialty to them other than the fact that they come from different countries cause the only thing that matters when it comes to which is better is the author of the story itself. Some great examples of absolute great works of fiction from the West (imo) would be comics such as Watchmen, The Question (1987 Dennis O' Neil Run), The Walking Dead, and All Star Superman. Unfortunately, when it comes to manga I can't say much when it comes to examples cause as I said earlier, I'm still expanding my view on it but as of right now one I really like would be Tokyo Ghoul (only on Chapter 49 though so please don't spoil it). Another thing to consider (which is my main problem with people saying Manga is better) is conclusions and expansive universes cause one of the reasons why people say Manga is better is because they actually have an ending and aren't something you need a hundred years of comic history to understand. Yet if they knew anything about Comics aside from just Marvel and DC they would know that it's not the case at all. I mentioned some examples of this earlier like the Walking dead and Watchmen, both are straight read through stories where you don't need context to understand them, and they have a conclusion to their stories as well. Another thing is that some comic runs don't require context to understand them as well, my main example of this would be the O' Neil comic run of The Question I mentioned earlier (which also happens to be my favorite comic run of all time). Sure, the conclusion to it may not be satisfactory but the plot and the character are set up in just the first two issues and the rest is just his journey afterward with no context required. Anyways, I just want to thank you for reading and listening to me rant about Comics and Manga for a bit and again I just want to make sure this very clear I am not saying Comics nor Manga are better and it's best to enjoy and appreciate them for what they are.

    6:48 I don't understand why you say "Generations 4 and 5 anime were BAD." as if it's an objective statement. Now of course I understand it's your opinion, but within the Pokemon fandom, the Diamond and Pearl anime (gen 4) is praised as one of, if not, the BEST Pokemon anime series, at least in terms of writing. The new co-protagonist in Dawn who's journey was engaging to watch alongside Ash's, the compelling antagonists like Hunter J and Team Galactic, and *especially* Ash's rivalry with Paul and Infernape's entire character arc. And yet you don't bring any of that up?
    I'm not even a fan of generation 4, and I get that obviously Pokemon isn't the focus of the video, you only use it as a brief example. But you speak so generally about it that you don't even use any examples from the anime to support what you're saying, you just say things as if they're facts that everyone knows about Pokemon, when in reality, you're only mouthing what everyone else who doesn't watch the Pokemon anime says about it.
    Overall, addressing the Pokemon anime ends up becoming one of the weakest examples you could've used in the video.

    • @ScritRighter
      @ScritRighter  7 месяцев назад

      Haven't watched it in like a decade. There's a saying. People will forget what you say, they might remember what you do, but they will always remember how you made them feel. The Pokemon gen 4 and 5 anime made me feel bored, frustrated, and generally unhappy.
      Paul's rivalry is great. But the majority of the show is not about Paul's rivalry, and Ash spends a good few episodes getting his ass beat by the first gym. Dawn was a generally uninteresting protagonist to me, especially with how much I had enjoyed May and Misty's stories. Dawn felt like they were retreading May's story arch, but in a much more annoying way. Dawn also lacked any engaging rivals unlike May who had several to pick from. Brock's bit had pretty much gotten old by the time I was watching gen 4.
      There are plenty of examples I could give to justify my feelings on a show, but I don't think I need to make it any more clear that all of these things I talk about are purely my perspective and opinion. I might speak 'objectively' but that's kinda just how I talk. I speak my truth, and if it resonates with you, then it resonates with you. If you enjoyed gen 4 (which you say you didn't) then good for you, we disagree. Maybe I could've delved more into my feelings on it, but I moreso wanted to speak on the personal experience I have with coming to dislike something I used to enjoy. Rather than justify to the audience why I am correct for disliking something.

You would gain absolutely nothing from that because I didn't bring up any actual *flaws* about the show, it was only a pointless example.
      Even the reasons you've gave just show how much you don't remember the anime. That may be how you *feel,* but the truth of the matter is it's not the *truth.* Ash didn't spend a good few episodes getting beat by the first gym. He loses to Roark, spends one episode to train, and then comes back to beat him. And Misty hardly had any story to begin with, as she only first mentions her dream of wanting to become a "Water Pokémon Master" *2/3 through Johto.* I could go on, but you see how not watching the anime in a decade has clouded your judgement on the events that had actually transpired.
      And that's why I'm saying this is one of the weakest examples you could've used in the video. This isn't about justifying why you don't like the Pokemon anime, this is about supporting the argument you're trying to make in the video so it sounds like you actually know what you're talking about, instead of making mistakes about something you haven't seen in a decade.
      Edit: Also at 6:18 you say "I think plenty of people agreed with the sentiment that the anime was getting worse" and "it wasn't as good as the first and second generations of the anime"...but where are you getting the idea that people agree with this? Genwunners? If anything, the Johto saga is probably agreed upon in the fandom for being the most forgettable season of the Pokemon anime right after BW, because of all the endless filler that plagued the season.

    & if someone wanna make smthng for gay people go ahead make those we aint stopping also market them as they are & those should get carried by them audience
    But if they start chnging established lore from iceman, tim drake, jon kent, morph, kitty pride, black cat being straight to smthng else to push their agenda which if bestowed onto new characters dont sell then we have a plm & this is probably what majority call woke bad or woke trash whatever, but this is neither challenging anything or bringing smthng new to the table all this is doing is tarnishing long established charaters with vividly made background to slop of writers who have no creativity....

      Spiderverse, Arcane, Stranger Things, Breaking Bad, D&D, numerous music artists, dances, etc etc.
      Influencing things such as anime openings, animation techniques, plotlines, etc. MHA is a direct result of western comics and the writer has said as much. Chainsawman is heavily inspired by American films and television. Animation studios are still trying to catch up to the style and influence of Spiderverse after it pushed the medium forward.
      If you wanna say 'oh, well nothing *recently*' give it about 5-10 years and you'll be wrong. People grow up with the things they see and it takes time before they give it back.

    Two things.
    You're not accounting for taste.
    You're simply side stepping any objective measurement of the product at hand in an attempt to boil it down to nostalgia and "not my(insert thing here)".
    That's disengenuous.
    GT was hated because it was poorly written, conceptually poor, and no one liked the directions of any of the characters.
    Super is hated because they CLAIM Toriyama wrote it, but everyone knows they just asked toriyama to rubber stamp their absolute made by committee and poorly paid mid manga creators to crap out terrible stuff.
    He may have had some ideas but...they created trash to build it up.

      "Side stepping any objective measurement"
      - GT was poorly written (opinion)
      - GT was conceptually poor (opinion)
      - No one liked the directions of any of the characters(factually incorrect statement. I liked it)
      - People hate Super cuz and even if it's true that somehow invalidates what I said about Super being bad.
      Tell me, is any of this discussion based in objectivity, or can we both admit we have subjective opinions about the show?

      That's classic gaslighting of shills.
      And yeah. It's not really a conspiracy theory.

      @@incognit01233 People hated GT cuz it wasn't like DBZ. It was a return to Dragonball and the original gag style of writing. You can't say 'the entire fandom' when there are people in the fandom who enjoyed the show.
      And yes, sometimes an audience is blinded by nostalgia and entitlement, and they don't fairly judge the quality of something until decades after it's released. That's just the truth.
      Also, what are you expecting them to do? Revive Toriyama with the dragonballs? He's dead. Of course he's not gonna be behind the writing of the show anymore. And it's doubtful to change because the course of the story has already been set.

    • @incognit01233

      @@ScritRighter First of all, DB was never liked for the gags. They were nice but it was the fighting.
      And OG DB was going to be canceled until frying pan mountain arc and master roshie showed up.
      Secondly, DB only became REALLY popular during DBZ.
      Lastly, no one asked for OG DB and a child goku and a space dragonball chase. Even Toriyama said this shit is stupid and did the bare minimum of designing jokey versions of the characters so the hack writers could crap out nonsense.
      Bro. Dragonball Goku Time was LOATHED by the fanbase so much that Funimation actually cut out the Grand Tour part of DBGT and went straight to the Baby arc. Which was just mediocre retreads of DBZ done by movie writes.
      Unfairly judge the quality?
      Entitlement?
      It's a continuation of a piece of work that the fanbase made popular.
      The fans wanted MORE OF WHAT WAS POPULAR not what a bunch of totally out of touch suits and hacks crapped out.
      We judged it. We hated it.
      And it's the height of entitlement to expect a fanbase to shut up and consume garbage because they took the effort to make a poor product.
      As a matter of fact its insane.
