I bought a Polartec Neoshell jacket after hearing Chris Townsend singing the material's praises . Seems to be more breathable than my Goretex jackets. I also love Paramo clothing, particularly their windproofs. I keep meaning to ask you, what brand is that blue hooded fleece you always wear ? All the best mate 😁
Yup I got three of them they very very good unfortunately two things happened one I got fatter and don't fit them so well and two the DWR wore off and I got soaked lol and I thought better go back to Gore esp as Neo no longer used unfortunately. But I did wash and treat all three and hopefully lose a bit around middle one day and use them again and hopefully not get wet lol
I have 2 Rab Jackets. A Rab Guide which I got on issue and a shorter harness compatible one in eVENT. Wore the eVENT one before doing the fan dance last year in heavy rain and it was excellent. The guide has never really been waterproof in fact I’d go as far as to say that during my time as an MRT member I’ve never found a good solution to waterproofing because you’re usually working that hard you wet out from the inside. That’s across all fabrics from paclite to three layer gore. As I’ve mentioned before I really like Paramo but find it too heavy for anything but early spring/winter. For lighter weight I’m a big fan of Montane and Haglofs . I use both for trail running but even then I’ll run without a waterproof in all but the worst weather because I get too hot
If you're in MR I wonder if you know Al from DSRT .... I was wondering if you are him lol eVent is very good. I've just bought a Montane paclite jacket for three season. The Paramo wind shirt very good but heavy for hiking I prefer super light ones. But I did treat it long ago and wore it once several years ago over hour in torrential rain and not a drop passed and no liner nothing just wind shirt. Thanks as always
@@TonyHobbs I’m ex MR 2000 to 2014 Peak District and Mid Pennine teams. Which team from DSRT ? The main people I spent time with from down there were the dog handlers given my role. I spent a weekend with Plymouth Section in 2007 for the 10 Tors

Hi, just trying to decide what size Kangri to buy. Could you possibly give an idea of your height/weight to give me more of an idea of the fit? Cheers Tony!
5'8" 173cm then probably 85kg bit of a tummy. Trying to lose bit of tummy now lol medium did fit but close fitting to belly. This allows small ish camera and layers for winter to be worn Inc insulation if needed possibly
@@TonyHobbs Cheers for the quick reply! I've been wavering between large and xl, sounds like I should maybe go for XL, as I'm 85kg and 187cm... It's only going to be used in winter anyway, so extrs layering space can't harm. There seems to be a trend for wearing waterproofs really fitted, it doesn't really make any sense to me...clammy!
Probably guilty of that tbh but the space n room makes sense :) I was certainly happy I went large and had space in this one . Other jackets Inc waterproofs are probably closer fitting on me lol I need to lose a bit I'm down to near 80kg now but more to go... food too tasty but trying to eat bit less 😋 😆 thanks for watching and commenting
@@TonyHobbs no gore tex is an old technology so doubtful they would have it, maybe a more modern membrane without the brand name. Gore Tex is good for car pedals though 😉
@@TonyHobbs I don’t think they use gore-tex or eVent in the jackets described as waterproof - sailing jackets etc Seems to be a polyamide of some description. I’ve had down jackets and other gear from decathlon and it’s all been great. Their light downs are barely different to Rab or mountain equipment. They also do very decent trekking trousers and shorts that I found better quality than my mountain equipment trousers and fraction of the price. I’d be interested to know how their waterproof jackets perform.
Nice...I have an older north face goretex jacket..it's the bomb

Proper trip videos to follow lol thought let's try something different here with a bit of kit
Thanks Andy you too 😀

@@PetemightDid you end up going with the Large or XL? I’m also 187cm and wondering if the XL would be too big for me
@eloicplante5087 this was large
I bought large but it was far too big for me.
Have you seen the ones they sell at Decathlon.
