Once a upon a time there was a lovely princess. But she had an enchantment of a fearful sort, which could only be broken by loves first kiss. She was locked away in a castle, Guarded by a terrible fire-breathing dragon. Many brave knights had attempted to free her from this dreadful prison, but none prevailed. She waited in the dragon's keep, in the highest room in the tallest tower, for her true love, and true love's first kiss.

I remember the first time I ever went to a large theme park at Universal Studios Singapore. Around the time of closing, most of the park was empty so I just decided to sit in this empty space in front of the castle from Far Far Away, and as the crowds disappeared the speakers' light music became louder and I realized that it was this. And under the dark empty sky with a literal castle behind me. It was a very unique and strange experience.
Its been almost 20 years, time flies. I remember watching shrek with my grandpa (rip) many times back then, when I was just a wee lad. Memes brought him back to life countless times, and hoping to see many more. Shrek = Legend

Something about the song makes me feel peaceful yet it makes me feel like I’m a lost, innocent soul at the same time. Especially the beginning, it feels like I am in a magical land.
In my opinion, I feel that this music just embodies how it feels to hear a fairytale being told to you Stories about far away lands with wide open fields and forests, creatures with magical powers, big stone castles and fire breathing dragons. You begin to see yourself in the land with your imagination and the story eventually gets so entrancing that you fall asleep before hearing the ending and let your dreams happen You suddenly awaken to the morning light and realize it was all just a dream.... But the fairytale made the experience of falling asleep so magical...

Stupid was the wrong word. Silly and immature is what I really meant. I love the whole franchise, it’s part of my childhood. And you’re right, the story is all of the movies altogether.
Shrek was the movie that always helps me to remember that no matter how ugly i think i am, theres always gonna be people who are there that see me different to everyone else
Shrek no sería Shrek sin este tema tan bello y hermoso, eso es lo que lo caracteriza, además de que nos enseña que no hay que ser perfectos para tener un final feliz:')
I’m struggling to hold my tears back as I’m hearing this. This movie, along with other DreamWorks movies, was my childhood. I remember watching it over and over again, never satisfied by its beauty. A huge and important part is played by the score: I’m sure that if even 100 years would pass I’d still be able to recognize it. Aside from that, the story and the characters are also obviously perfect. It truly made a place for itself in my memory. It’s unforgettable. It’s moving. It’s beautiful.
This is way more beautiful than it has any right to be, and that's exactly what Shrek is all about! Great series, Shrek, Shrek 2, and Shrek Forever After, that is all of them. Right,...... right!?
I wouldn't be surprised if this was originally supposed to be a jab to Disney's "When you wish upon a star" melody, but hearing this melody at the end of Puss in Boots TLW with that Shrek teaser, I was seriously getting emotional(again) at the thought of seeing Shrek once again in the big screen after so long gosh... Who would've thought that a movie that was meant to be the antithesis of the Disney classic fairytale movie never meant to be successful and regarded as the black sheep project by its own studio, would have captured the hearts of so many people of older and newer generations. I wouldn't have it any other way.
DreamWorks is an underrated gem. Sure I grew up like other kids watching both classic and modern Disney movies, and I still treasure Disney, but I was always attached to DreamWorks. I think it's because they're the underdogs. DreamWorks has a lot of movies and shows but a lot of them weren't well received by critics, but I always watched them every chance I got as a kid. I love DreamWorks. From El Dorado to Shrek to How To Train Your Dragon to Madagascar to Home to Megamind to Kung Fu Panda, I love every movie. At Disney you have to be a hero or a princess. At DreamWorks, you can be an alien, a lion or giraffe, a panda or tiger, a dragon or viking, anything you want to be. Disney still gave me some good memories, but I will never forget how while all the other girls wanted to watch Frozen for the hundredth time, I would rather watch Shrek. Just hearing the song brings back great memories. I hope that DreamWorks stays for a long time and is known far and wide just as good or just at least close to Disney's level. If you made it to the end of this comment, congratulations, have a cookie. ^^ -> 🍪
Ngl? I was quite literally raised alongside this movie, it was my childhood, my father would imitate the characters voices and I was always overjoyed when he did so, then there was the birthday cake me and my mom made for him that I ended up sticking an onion in because I wanted it to look like shrek’s swamp, a good chunk of my positive memories involving my dad also involved this film, and i don’t have many positive memories of my father, he’s not dead but he and my mom are divorced and I now live in a much happier home, I don’t consider my father family anymore due to his treatment of my mom(and the drugs, and the refusal to pay child support, yadda yadda) It’s funny how a single childhood movie can carry so much emotional weight, this specific track does to my tear ducts what pepper does to a nose. Most say lion king, others say toy story, I say shrek, and from an outsider’s perspective the phrase “shrek is love shrek is life” can definitely be applied to the first two films with their storylines and morals, I just wish that was reality instead of some shitty meme that made me ashamed to admit that shrek was one of my favourite films.

"Once upon a time there was a lovely princess. But she had an enchantment upon her of a fearful sort which could only be broken by love's first kiss. She was locked away in a castle guarded by a terrible fire-breathing dragon. Many brave knights had attempted to free her from this dreadful prison, but none prevailed. She waited in the dragon's keep in the highest room of the tallest tower. For her true love and true love's first kiss."

It is. It was renditioned for their logo in 2004 with the release of “Shrek 2”, until 2017, when it was used for the last time in “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie”. In 2019, the theme was replaced with another theme written by John Powell (co-composer on Shrek, and many other DWA films) and premiered with “How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World”

This 1:29 is pure magic. The composers of this should be really proud of themselves. That's an amazing harmony of notes. The first seconds is like you looking at the infinity of the sky full of stars.. and then the climax at the end was perfect.

Both are incredible composers! Powell’s work in How to Train Your Dragon is beautiful. And Harry Gregson-Williams never disappoints; the music he composed in Narnia is MESMERIZING. Can’t believe 2 geniuses worked together to create such a simple, yet enchanting piece.

Shrek is supposed to mock fairytales, but this music is unironically beautiful for a fairytale.

Didn't you watched Shrek the Third? I watched it but i don't remember. I think it's cool. Last year i did a rewatch on Netflix of the complete saga but i still don't remember. I know... I have the Memory of a sloth :(
@@Peppino.Gamerino unfortunately, lots of people are blindly having a hivemind opinion and think it's the worst movie ever. It goes to show how predictable it is that a slightly worse movie than 2's best ever is considered the worst. Is 3 the worst Shrek? Possibly, but its not the worst movie ever.
That crescendo into a four chord at 0:16 when the low strings come in is STUNNING 😩😩😩
Something about the song makes me feel peaceful yet it makes me feel like I’m a lost, innocent soul at the same time. Especially the beginning, it feels like I am in a magical land.
You basically feel like shrek 😂
Makes me feel sleepy I used to play this for my daughter to help her go to sleep
In my opinion, I feel that this music just embodies how it feels to hear a fairytale being told to you
Stories about far away lands with wide open fields and forests, creatures with magical powers, big stone castles and fire breathing dragons. You begin to see yourself in the land with your imagination and the story eventually gets so entrancing that you fall asleep before hearing the ending and let your dreams happen
You suddenly awaken to the morning light and realize it was all just a dream.... But the fairytale made the experience of falling asleep so magical...

More than 20 years old, this music is still a masterpiece!
Got this in my recommendation
Good old memories
This is a remake of the eurovision song Nocturne (1995) Great song, great remake!
I knew it sounded so familiar
The melody also borrows heavily from 'Thaxted', from Holst's 'Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity'.
TranscendentLion Zelda’s the lost woods also came from that song.
No, it's not a remake. Just because something sounds similar doesn't mean its the same song... It's NOT A REMAKE!

As funny and stupid as the movie was, you gotta admit that Dreamworks had no business going this hard with the soundtrack. God it’s beautiful.
Stupid? Nah, this film had a pretty good meaning, and it hits even harder if you view the franchise as a whole.
Stupid was the wrong word. Silly and immature is what I really meant. I love the whole franchise, it’s part of my childhood. And you’re right, the story is all of the movies altogether.
This masterpiece is truly beautiful and forever will be remembered by generations.
I can't get over the fact that this was made partly by the same composer that did the music for the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
Any music?

I can't hear it without getting chills all over my body. Nostalgia. Dreamworks sure knew how to make a soundtrack! ♫

Now you can probably add puss in boots 2 to the list of best Shrek-universe movies
I'm not crying I just got something in my eyes😭🥺

PERKELE!!!!!!!!!!!
Ngl? I was quite literally raised alongside this movie, it was my childhood, my father would imitate the characters voices and I was always overjoyed when he did so, then there was the birthday cake me and my mom made for him that I ended up sticking an onion in because I wanted it to look like shrek’s swamp, a good chunk of my positive memories involving my dad also involved this film, and i don’t have many positive memories of my father, he’s not dead but he and my mom are divorced and I now live in a much happier home, I don’t consider my father family anymore due to his treatment of my mom(and the drugs, and the refusal to pay child support, yadda yadda)
It’s funny how a single childhood movie can carry so much emotional weight, this specific track does to my tear ducts what pepper does to a nose.
