    • @sharetruth9010
      @sharetruth9010 2 месяца назад +27

      Yes apparently the only thing going for it was it's size and the devestation it caused "when it worked". Due to its unreliability and huge size, it could only be fired three times a day and would need to be doused in olive oil to stop the cracks inside it enlarging due to the heat. It also killed many of its operators. In the end the thing destroyed itself but it did manage to do serious damage on Constantinople's ramparts. Though this was supplemented by the many smaller accompanying cannons. As you mentioned the Ottoman versions were far more reliable. The one in this video was in use for over 300 years which is insane!

    Shahi cannon on display at the Ford Nelson Museum in Portsmouth, England, bears the date Rajab 868 (March 1464). It was cast by a master named Münir Ali. It is 63 cm in diameter, 5.25 meters tall, weighs 8 tons and can fire 300 kg stone cannonballs. The birthplace of this 'lily-patterned' cannon, which is in two pieces connected by screws for ease of transportation and casting, is Istanbul Tophane-i Amire. This is the 'Dardanel' cannon that sank six ships of the navy under the command of John Ducks Worth, who tried to cross the Dardanelles in 1807, with shots fired from the Kilitbahir castle built by Fatih.
    1856 General J.H. Lefroy, who came to Çanakkale for the Crimean War, admired this cannon. He gave 1200 pounds sterling to the castle commander and received the answer 'No'. After repeated offers, including the intervention of the embassy, it was taken in exchange for two new experimental Armstrong cannons to be presented to Queen Quenn Victoria in 1868 during Sultan Abdülaziz's visit to England. Münir Ali's cannon was one of the 42 cannons sent by Fatih in 1464 for the defense of the Dardanelles. As a result, 6 of the cannons that served for centuries remain today: The largest of these, the Şahi, is in England, another is in Turin, Italy, and the smaller ones are in the garden of the military museum in Harbiye.

    In total, six of these Shahi cannons were produced. Moreover, the Shahi cannon was used for defensive purposes in the Dardanelles Strait (Çanakkale Boğazı) until the 19th century.
    By the way, during the Battle of Istanbul, not only stone but also marble was used as cannonballs to cause greater destructive damage.

    Another fact about istanbul is that if you go to aya sophia you can find an imprint of a small hand
    also the circles with the names of abu bakr, umar,ali,uthman ra were too big too remove beacuse ataturk wanted them out as he wanted no sign of religion when converting it into a mueseum so yeah any questions you have feel free to ask.
