Calls grow for Mount Warning to be open to the public

  • Calls are growing louder to open Mount Warning to the public on the New South Wales North Coast.
    The popular summit hike was closed to the public four years ago due to COVID guidelines.
    The closure was then extended due to safety concerns and its cultural significance to Aboriginal people.

      I used to climb it all the time as a kid I lived up the road from Uki at Mt Burrell and since I heard it’s closed to people who aren’t Aboriginal I haven’t visited Northern NSW and have no plans on going there anytime soon if I’m not good enough to climb Mt Warning than no business within 100 kilometres of the overrated hole is good enough to receive my business.

      Climbed up there a few years ago, well worth the effort but it's not a stroll , that's for sure !
      In my opinion we should have every right to climb the mountain, provided we respect our surroundings and behave in a friendly and responsible manner . Government and special interest groups need to piss off and leave sensible Aussies to enjoy all our natural surroundings , authorities should spend more time and effort prosecuting idiots who genuinely do the wrong thing and not look for reasons to shut people and places down.

    As someone who has taken the walk up My warning quite a number of times, I seriously doubt that aboriginal people were able to make it very far up the mountain prior to a track being cut with steel bladed implements. The majority of the terrain is typical rainforest for that area of thorny underbrush creating a near impenetrable barrier.
