    Find out how easy adding a Neptune Apex to your tank really is. It literally took Thomas 10-mins and a few steps on his phone! If you can setup your new phone, or smart device you can absolutely set up an Apex on your tank.

    I’d like it if Neptune came out with individual WiFi plugs that would connect to the “brain”in place of the power bar they have now. With the current EB8 you’re stuck with having to run all the plugs to it to be controlled.
    If they offered individual plugs(in 4,6,8,10,12 bundles) you can plug them in wherever needed. You could even use them in another room or garage to control an ro/di unit/water storage mixing station or another tank and so on. This would, I think, make it much easier to manage cables also. You’d also be able to buy more as your system grows.
    They could have another style plug for the link and 24v outlets to control that kind of equipment too.
    Whatcha think?

    I finally took the plunge and bought an ApexEL 4 months ago and so far I love it, I love having the ability to control my equipment while I'm not at home, plus I can monitor basic things all from my smart phone. The EL is good to get you started on Apex if your budget is tight and you can always expand later as money permits.

      I put mine on the wall of the house next to the aquarium, it's a corner wall so the tank obscures it and you can't see it unless you make the effort to look between the aquarium and the wall. I would most definitely not put mine in the stand or close to the sump, electricals don't fare well next to all that humidity and salt, I've had plugs corroding after a couple of years, and I'd hate to think what condition the power strips are in that I had put into the stand years ago.

      I'm actually curious, but how often do you actually need to control your equipment from out of home? Like when would I need to monitor my return pump or heater and turn them off remotely?

    I'd love to get one of these, but my god the price. As a somewhat new but not new reef tanker, putting this on my 16g is just over the top in regards to the price. Heck, it costs more than the tank and supplies. Maybe if I get a +100g one day or they come out with a cheaper model, but for now I can't justify that cost.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 года назад

      It sounds like the Apex Jr. might be closer to what you're looking for. It doesn't come with the EB832, but gives you monitoring of temperature, pH, water level, and also has a leak detector. Bonus is that you can add on a power bar in the future should you choose.

    I just wanna know if BRS will ever re-release their Special Edition version of the Apex. At the time I had just bought alot of equipment I wasn't in desperate need of, so when they came out with their version monitoring the 3 basic parameters, I was excited for some help at a lower cost, as I'm still only afew years into the hobby, but thought it was something that after getting feedback on they would possibly adjust and release again. Sadly that doesn't seem to be the case, maybe if someone brought it up.... Work your magic Thomas!

    • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 года назад +2

      pH and temp can be done immediately, but ORP won't read true until 5 to 7 days of use, and the Salinity probe needs 3 to 7 days to break in pre-calibration. I like to let all of them sit a few days and then calibrate. Less to worry about up front, and even if not accurate at first, a pH probe will still be precise.

    • @semaphor3
      @semaphor3 4 года назад

      @@ThomasBReef Please show me literature that supports your breaking in claims, having worked in a lab environment there was never a case that we had to "break in" a device.

    • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 года назад

      @@semaphor3 Hey Fabian! Its my understanding that the biofilms that develop on the probes will affect the reading, so waiting until that biofilm develops, and then calibrating, will give you a more accurate reading. This info is from Neptune Systems.

    • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 года назад +1

      For a controller, not that I have found. Other options in the same category are similar in price range.
      With that said, check out the Seneye; it is a monitoring solution for the most common failures that can send you alerts as well, but it does not control or automate anything, so it can only give you the warning so you can get to the tank to correct it.
