  • In this tutorial i'm modeling a spoon, and, after a thousand attempts, there's always the simplest one, hidden, somewhere...
    **** Edit: Subtitles are now available, enable it if it's not by default. ****
    I may add more to it, if i find any point necessary to explain further.
    For now, i'll add most used shortkeys, they are available along the video, but i'll add them here as well:
    H - straighten line, horizontally
    V - straighten line, vertically
    Shift+H - horizontal distance
    Shift+V - vertical distance
    T - tangent constraint
    C - coincident constraint, merging two points, in other words
    E - equal constraint, make two object share the same rule
    L - create line (sketch)
    Shift+O - fix the point to the given line
    SPACE bar - hide the parts, within the tree panel
    - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    I've tried many attempts with sections, profiles and so on, but, this one had worked in a couple of minutes, successfully.
    Step by step instructions, and other details, i'll cover in tutorials with my voice included.
    I hope this tutorial will be helpful in learning.

    Nice Video! Finally I realized how to select multiple points without the lines! Drag the selection rectangle from left to right for selecting points only. Drag from right to left to select lines also.

    I was a little depressed that there were no explanations until I saw I just had to turn on subtitles. I didn't know it until now, but I kind of prefer those to someone's voice. Great work and righteous soundtrack!

    Fantastic!
    I'm just starting to learn modeling for 3D printing and after a couple very basic tutorials on FreeCAD, then some good ones based on Fusion 360, which is now rather expensive per year I was wondering how to translate some more powerful capabilities into FreeCAD.
    Thanks a lot for this excellent example at normal speed, I'll now try to redo it 🙂
    I wonder why you designed the left and right separately however instead of only one then mirroring the whole thing.

    These tutorials would be so much easier to follow and to understand the steps if they could only have voice comments.
    For a complete starter as me, who comes from Rhino 5 and 3D Max, Freecad has a complete different logic of operation. When one watches this video and see you click here and there, it's very hard to understand how you get certain results when apparently you use keyboard shortcuts. Also, how to use the constraints seems very mysterious too.
    From a demonstration point of view, these videos look fine. As to be called tutorials, it's quite frustrating to follow them.
    I've looking for good tutorial Freecad channels, with the very needed voice comments. I've found some in german or in spanish, but very, very few in english.
    It's been quite frustrating to learn Freecad. It's like braking rock with a wood hammer... :/

    When you use keyboard shortcuts, it isn't always obvious what you are doing. Is there some way to make it more obvious what tools you are using and how? Thanks for the videos. I learn from every single one you make.

      I had a few similar comments, i'm certanily going to change that in future tutorials. In general, idea was to make this videos demonstrational, but i see i must add, at least, shortcuts from now on. Plan is to add microphone in time, so i could explain everything, then i'll return to this tutorials, and try to clarify all the key steps i know, which are difficult to understand, or might be confusing. It will take some time, there's a lot to cover, but, from tutorial #26, and further, shortcuts indicator will be visible.

      There exists various screencast-oriented software like Key-Mon that can display the pressed keys on the screen.

      You might use captions to show what shortcuts you are using, and also might do that in the video edition. thanks for the tutorial, simple and efective. Always Ockham 's razor... Thanks again1

      Maybe dispense with the sound track. Very unpleasant. I had to mute it. Just vocalising what you're doing would be better.

    I can see you did a lot of research to find the optimal way to create the spoon. I didn't think it would be possible with freecad until I saw you do it. A way that you might still introduce the commands is by using subtitles. I've tried to use subtitling for translation purposes but a long time ago. I think I forgot all about it but it is just normal text with start and end times. You wouldn't have to give any text other than your short-cuts and commands. That would still keep it language independent...
    thanks for this super vid.

    it looks very good,freecad is amazing,at least is free and open source - in 2020 year - it probably has changed a lot,since that time.

    What did you do at 5:18? I think it was a keyboard shortcuts but I'm not sure what you did.

    • @AndarionCGart
      @AndarionCGart  6 лет назад

      At that point only grid appears, i have used G and R to toggle the grid, but, not in the same time, first press G, and quickly R after. Shortcut won't work if any tool or operation is active.
      I'm preparing new tutorials, new series will be more detailed, since these are only for demonstration purpose, but it may take a while until they are finished.

    At 5:51 how did you move the point as I am unable to select it. Thanks

    • @AndarionCGart
      @AndarionCGart  4 года назад +1

      Hi, technically you only need to select the point with one click, if I remember well, it was a bit of a pain, because, it was very difficult to select each. But with a little practice, and, multiple repeating, I somehow managed to get it right, but not perfect.
      In general, the point requires the defined plane of movement, it should work better. I haven't used draft workbench for some time, and, I think it should be the same.

      @@AndarionCGart Thanks, I'll try, indeed it's a pain in selecting it.

    Why draw both sides of a symmetrical object?

    • @AndarionCGart
      @AndarionCGart  5 лет назад +1

      While i was making this model, there were many attempts, and in every single attempt geometry brakes. So this was the only order i could manage to model successfully. I'll see how things will run within the next series. I hope those videos will be sooner. New videos will be covered with voice, or with step by step captions. It would make many things a lot easier, to clarify why i had to use some order instead of the logical, so to speak. I notice, pretty much, a lot of negative feedback, in that regard.

    Man, you really should look into the Sketcher Polyline and its tangent arc mode. You would save a lot of time!

    • @AndarionCGart
      @AndarionCGart  6 лет назад

      That's when the music comes in handy. :)
      It's not always the best choice, but i did tried, and i had an issue with controlling polyline and arcs, and doing that separately gives a lot of freedom, especially if it's about complex, or someway organic shapes, and i have no clear picture of how final sketch would look, i'm moving them separately until i get approximately the right shape, just as i would do the sketch on a paper. But, of course, i use polyline whenever i can.
      I would definitely try using polyline if i had an image, or, a sketch beneath, but, that is another thing to be covered in future.

    Hi,
    Could you tell me please, how mace the cut on 8:50 ?.

    • @AndarionCGart
      @AndarionCGart  6 лет назад +2

      That is only a boolean operation, between surface and extruded object, but, it's a tricky step, it may give unexpected results, depending on how previous steps are done.
      If Cut doesn't remove the right side, and do the opposite, use Intersection instead.
      This is 0.16 version, i think 0.17 have a better options.
