Consider the fact that he not only speaks pretty clean English as it is, but he has knowledge of TWO languages. Regardless of how you look at it, that's extremely talented.

he actually has a really good point. he has a hit in the US, in un-altered korean, that's right on the brink of reaching #1 on billboard. there's probably less than 10 non-english songs that have ever done that, and I'm betting most (if not all) were at least in a european language.
my numbers might be a bit off (I didn't spend a lot of time looking in to it), but regardless, it's a really big deal for both him and all of korea.

On June 15, 1963, Kyu Sakamoto accomplished something never achieved before or since when he earned a #1 hit on the American pop charts with a song sung entirely in Japanese-a song originally written and recorded under the title "Ue O Muite Aruk?." This was not the title under which it climbed the U.S. pop charts, however. Instead of a faithfully translated title like "I Look Up When I Walk," Sakamoto's ballad was called, for no particular reason, "Sukiyaki."

First of all, it's great to have a logical mind here. So thank you. Second of all, yes you are right, if you know French for example, it might be easier for you to learn English, and yes the age plays an important factor in learning a new language. I myself came to Japan not being to speak in English, it's been a 5 years now and since the 3rd year its easier to speak an casual English. However, school work and etc., requires a higher level of English skills, which I am trying to master.

Dude seems straight up and pretty cool. Surprising how honest he is about not really doing much when he was in school in Boston. I never went to college, but in my early to mid twenties hung out with a whole crew of people in Boston that did, some of them really did get a full education, but a certain amount of the women I hung out with seemed to just get married after and the college years was just to kill time! This was in the 80's too, not the 60s when that kind of thing was more common.

While I do wish that the USA was more inviting towards other languages and cultures, but I don't agree that English is ugly. I love the intricacies of it. It's more like a complex art form than a language because its rules are fluid and changing. It's fascinating.

It's true. I moved to Canada 6 years ago, I went to elementary and high school in Canada. While I was there, all my teachers that taught me English or any other subject told that it takes about 5-7 years to learn English perfectly. So before you make any comment that makes you sound unintelligent and ignorant next time, look it up online. Have a nice day! :D

A lot of Brits are the same. I think if you go to live in a country you should try your best to speak the language as it'll make your life easier but if you're just going on vacation just learn the basics to get you by. Number one would be "Sorry, I don't understand, I'm English".
I can see English being complicated to someone if it's not your first language. We have too many variations and colloquialisms.
I'm trying to learn Polish. I don't plan on going to Poland, I just like words :)
