  • gwr 4110 finally returned to steam after 3 years if restoration and 58 years since it last steamed. The locomotive was ment to undergo steaming tests the day before but a injector leak delayed this for a day but the loco successfully underwent tests today without a hitch.

    Congratulations to all those involved in bringing this lovely engine back to life. I am old enough to remember when steam locomotives were used on a daily basis and witnessed their twilight years.
    A wonderful achievement.

    From the opening scene you can see you’ve not restored it, but created a living, breathing being. The word heroes is hardly adequate for what you have achieved.

    lovely to see another one of these tank locos up and running. Like all the other ex gwr locos, taken for granted when i was i kid as they were so common. memories of them several times pulling a broken down diesel with an express passenger train.!

    that loco used to belong to us at southall railway centre in the 80s,the only original part is the chassis everything else was a pile of rust and loads of parts missing,

    • @twonkfieldrailways4110
      @twonkfieldrailways4110  Год назад +2

      It's had new tanks and bunker, I imagine alot of the smaller bits came from other locos (at least one wheelset came from Foxcot Manor). Its got the boiler it arrived with but I don't know if that was what it had ex Barry or not (certainly not original). But at least it's complete now. Thanks for watching!

      I was a member of the GWRPG from almost the beginning for about 30 years - fantastic that 4110 is now back in steam! Had the GWRPG continued, and kept 4110, I don't think it would have ever got back into steam.

    • @CaseyJonesNumber1
      @CaseyJonesNumber1 Год назад

      @@petersmith4455 don't remember the cars, but Birkenhead was at least in working order previously, so not a full restoration. The GWRPG really lacked the skills, facilities and equipment to fully restore 4110 (eg.Tyseley carried out work on the chassis), hence why ex-Barry 9682 was a paid-for restoration (at Swindon) - the group could never have done the work itself. ps.I'm going to the ESR gala on 19th March.

    At 08:00 there is Sentinel PBA 39 it looks like a shunter type, is that is if what it is? And I'm still learning all stuff so I'm just guessing here, from playing Train Sim Games :))
    And yes I have always liked the steam locomotives, Would love to see more running these days.

    • @twonkfieldrailways4110
      @twonkfieldrailways4110  Год назад +2

      Yes that's our main shunter. Built by sentinel which used to make interesting geared steam engines but turned to diesels when rolls royce took over, so it is truly the rolls Royce of locomotives. Luckily we actually have quite a few steam railways in the UK and it looks like they won't die out anytime soon.
