I value my sleep way to much to stay in a dorm type room, but there are hostels where it is just two people or private room like you said that I LOVE. You are hardly in the hotel/hostel anyway so may as well spend the money on experiences.
I have stayed in a few hostels in Japan and one in Malaysia and had no problems at all. They were all quiet and clean. All beds had a screen/curtains for privacy. I guess I was lucky. I've heard of terrible stories from people staying at hostels.
@@TrekkingPals I guess people keep the rules (especially if you find lots of Japanese at the hostel) but also you might find a few foreigners (usually) that aren't accustomed to the Japanese way of life - obeying the rules. But generally, expect cleanliness

I love private hostel rooms. It’s always that middle spot where you get to socialise without compromising privacy.
