About 20 minutes in, I was wondering about if, with all your reading of sci-fi, and with your observations about problems with stories in movies and TV, if you ever considered trying your hand at writing. And then you answered the question @37:24. Best of luck with your project!

Thanks! I really like what we have going so far, hopefully we can make it into something.

Hey long time no talk. Glad to see more of these types of vids from you. I saw parasyte the grey and actually found it interesting/looking forward to the 2nd season. Also saw the acolyte and was generally disappointed outside of the fight scenes. The story and character arcs were just bad.
I agree with all your main points and my 2 cents is the problem with some of the west shows is they are focused on writing the story for a certain audience (Women, representation, political agenda, race) when the core audience of the show are men. So they just end up alienating the core fanbase. Like my wife would be pissed off if they wrote a pride and prejudice reboot for men.
What makes the korean dramas work is they have none of these agendas. They are just focused on writing a good story. A strong female lead doesnt feel forced because theres a reason for it and is not simply being put in there to cater to a wider audience like alot of the western stuff.
Sadly, i've stopped playing DND for a while now. Been more focused on video games like baldurs gate 3. Currently playing valkyria chronicles 4. Most of the shows i watch are k-dramas now outside of marvel/star wars stuff. I barely get any TTRPG in and if i do its typically gloomhaven sessions (fantastic board game) or pathfinder 2E one-shots.
    Hope you're doing well!

Hey Rob, good to see you again. I need to make some more videos; it's been a while. Sad to hear you haven't been playing much lately, but I also enjoy some Gloomhaven. We actually got Frosthaven recently, but haven't really started that. But yeah, Korea is just making some really good shows right now, and like you said - they aren't trying to force anything.
As for Pathfinder, how are you finding it? I've been curious to try and play it, but my group doesn't really want to invest in more books for something so similar to D&D. I guess I can't blame them, but WoTC are not exactly my favourite company these days.

@@thedungeon1578 i'm definitely down for more talking about kdramas (just finished watching the pyramid game and the killing vote) and if you ever decide to explore PF2E.
Nice to hear you like gloomhaven too! Would be down for vids and discussion on that as well. Of course, dnd vids are fine but like you, WOTC is at the back of my priority list. I only supported BG3 because its Larian.
PF2E is awesome. Especially, if you like team play and balanced classes. I'd say i prefer it to DND 5e. Playing a pure martial doesnt feel like i'm gimping myself there. I'll share 5 of the common, initial observations of my group:
      1. Less arguments at the table. PF2E has a rule for almost everything. Less DM fiat, less ways for a players to break the game.
      2. PF2E is designed for team play. Its harder to make OP builds that can handle everything like dnd 5e. So if team play is more important for your table than feelinf heroic, this is the right system.
      3. to ride on #2, in dnd 5e, an optimizer's sequence is typically getting as many actions to either spell combo or get a bunch of attacks off. In pf2e, its about debuffing enemies and buffing allies/yourself before launching 1 spell or a couple of attacks. Its harder to be a whirling of attacks here.
      4. Its more challenging. When the rules say fighting an enemy of your level by yourself is suicide, it is. For a 1v1, the recommended is fighting an enemy 1-2 levels below you. 3 for non-optimizers.
      5. the CR system/encounter building works. The math is tight. The monsters are challenging. Its not a guessing game anymore unlike dnd 5e. No need to artificially pump difficulty with surprise rounds, traps, etc.
      6. The adventure modules are well designed and they have an easy to use, semi-free character builder app. This means less prep time for both GM and players.
In fact, i'd say give it a whirl. Paizo is generous. If you're homebrewing an adventure, you dont even have to buy books. Pathbuilder app is free for players except for a few features (like animal companions). Archives of Nethys website houses all the rules (you can learn via research), monsters, spells, equipment, etc. All free. They pretty much make their money selling the adventure books. Our GM likes to homebrew adventures so we pretty much played our 1st short campaign without buying a single book.
It would be fun to discuss further without the constraints of the YT comments section. Do you have a discord?

@@TheRobversion1 Less arguments at the table sounds good; my last game session turned into a bit of a disaster. I've also used a few Pathfinder 1E adventure paths and adapted them to D&D (usually taking just certain adventures, dungeons, or ideas, not really using the entire path).

@@thedungeon1578 ah thats too bad. yeah pf2e for sure defines more rules better. As someone who likes illusions, i prefer how its handled here. Feel free to ask if theres any aspect you're curious about.
So i was curious, do you have discord? would be cool to talk stuff there. If not, no worries. Comments are fine.
