WOOW! Crazy how things happen. Mine starting surging this spring and it was the same issue. Cleaned the jets and that allowed something from the line to get into the carb inlet and stuck on that screen in there. Popped the top off and the line and blew the line and it was perfect. I would like to fully rebuild mine eventually. My 1970 Onan 6k CCBk genny is still running great! Gotta a couple of workouts this summer with storms too. But yes, fully clean and dry crank shaft and flywheel. Kinna like the primary clutch on the sleds. Same thing.
When you rebuild the carb, it's super easy, but that darn high speed circuit (behind that large brass nut) is a little challenging to get back in. Idle circuit is under those 4 screws on top of carb. No side walls to slide the high speed jet back in, it's all hollow inside and a brass jet won't stick to a magnetic screwdriver to get it back in the hole, little challenging. Key should be here soon, cleaned up the crankshaft today, all oil is off and out of flywheel, should have a good mating surface and no more issues. My grass is LONG! LOL
Good compression, cross hatches still visible from 400 hrs ago, ready to push snow. Farmers Almanac is calling for a lot this year in the Great Lakes. Fingers crossed.
Really? I was looking at the Nikki copies on Amazon last week and thought, I'd better keep what I have and just clean it. Key doesn't come until Thursday so won't know if I got all the gunk out of this. Had a lot of soot on the choke plate, everything is nice and visually clean now.
I think the key is unique to these engines, that have the flywheel trigger. I didn't want to wait for it to come back in stock (if it even will) so was glad to get one used. $22 is ridiculous for a key but they were all that price used.

I remembered when you built that engine, great video series!
I wish HD video was around back then when I did that series. 360p is tough to watch now that we're all used to high def. It's a great motor.
@@CraigArndt it showed me all the mistakes I made!
This will help keep it running long and strong

Craig, thanks for the video.
Any time!
Nice job on the engine I bought a new carburetor last week off amazon no good.

Yes install the flywheel dry and torque it to spec
Great video! Where do you score the oil filter relocation kit?
You never give up
Thanks for posting this video!! I need to do this to my 520. I guess the key is specific to Onan and not just regular key stock?? Thanks!!

Craig I got a wheel horse 416 Onan and the cylinder is what do I do😮
What’s up with the cylinder? And which one, in front or back by the battery?
Very Nice job!!
