My first time trying to do a pull up I could barely hang from the bar for 5 seconds, (this was about 2 months ago) My goal was to do 1 pull by the end of the year. I'm glad to say I can finally do 1 pull up, though its not a lot, it means the world to me.
Yeah I used to do 15-20 on average and now I'm at 0! I just realized at the park I couldn't do one. That's how I ended up watching this. It is very uncomfortable to be out of shape for the first time in my life. I feel like a big baby. I have to do a pull up again!
There are so many muscles involved, I was stuck at 5 for quite a while, then I started doing other exercises for my mid back and stabilizing my shoulders, like rowing and tripled the number I could do in about 2 months. Also starting the move with your back instead of your arms helped me a ton. Great job!

Been trying to do pull ups since I was 13 but could not do a single one. I’m now turning 20 and still cannot do one (I do not really workout or anything). One day I decided to commit to a pull up progression routine that goes for 1 week, the week later I was able to do 75%, then the second week I was able to do 1. I wouldn't classify this as a failure, although of course you could, if you focus very narrowly on the fact you did not meet your immediate short term goal within the time period. As for me, I think a wider and longer perspective is much more helpful. If you look at this as just a step on the way, it is a successful achievement. You have proven you can get better. Now you just need to keep going, and 5 pullups with perfect form will come. And apart from just getting stronger and fitter, you also learned about yourself, about mindset and creating and maintaining a routine - this knowledge is transferable to any area of development in life, and to any coaching, teaching or management of other people that you may do in the future. Wishing you the best of determination onward!
