I'm still using Sony A230 for backup camera. Because I work as full time wedding photographer, it's kind of mandatory to have a back up camera. The funny thing is that, some of my clients prefer the CCD colors out of A230 than my main camera (Sony A7R mark 3). Lol
I've never paid much attention to "smoke free home" in used camera ads because I never had a problem... until I got a Sony F828 that reeked. I wiped it down with wet cleaning wipes and they came out yellow, just picking up caked-on tobacco residue. It was disgusting. After several cleanings it is much better, but not perfect. I find a lot of cameras from Japan are like that - you can sometimes see in the ads that the white markings with apertures, shutter speeds, the manufacturer's name on the prism... they're all yellow.
Hi! Thank you for your sharing. I have recently forming the same habit like you, collecting used cameras and lenses. Unlike buying an expensive, brand new camera or lens, you dont have to worry too much for making any damage on it and it is too tired to chase for new technologies be frankly speaking the function which i dont really need and so one could be more focusing on taking photos and enjoy the fun of photography. It is also an enjoyment for owning something you have once lost in the past. I brought a Minolta Dynax 9 and a Sony A900, a 17-35mm f3.5, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.4, 80-200mm f2.8 and a 300mm f2.8, of course a flash 5400HS.
Thank you so much for this! I’m a newbie photographer and picked up an A200 used from an older fella in my town on kijiji (threw in a few Minolta lenses, extra batteries, memory cards, card reader, charger, and camera bag all in for about $70 - just wanted it out of his basement really). I’m still grappling with the basics but I’m learning to love it and you brought up some features I didn’t know it had!
Great video! I also don't have the beer can version of the 70-210 but hear good things. It's cheap enough it's worth a try I think. Random question, but are you in Florida? I grew up partly in Florida. The foliage reminds me a lot of Florida.
Sad how many camera mounts have been orphaned in so short a time. Fortunately there's no shortage of adapters to slap the lens on something else. Agreed on smokers cameras. I bought an extended film kit with body and multiple lenses in 2009, and I still get a whiff of tobacco off the gear sometimes. Don't know how many times I've deep cleaned the stuff.
The 14mp ccd is way better on on the a350/390s and such. but finding one without a broken steady shot is getting harder. If broken, the sensor will be off kilter and shots will be out of alignment but can still be used if you compensate for it. Love you vids - keep up the good work.
still using this camera to this day, it have dead auto focus motor so i need to do any focusing manually, and i'm using the lens kit. it can still take a picture that comparable to a newer dslr on a decent light room, but the low light quality is kinda bad..
Being known as the camera enthusiast at work, I was offered an A200 including two lenses and extra memory cards today for free. I'll have some cleaning to do, but I couldn't turn down an offer like that. And it gives me a reason to pick up a cheap 500mm F8 Mirror tele-lens - and if the lenses are any good - but the camera is in bad condition, perhaps a super cheap A58 too.
I had a Sony A330 that I am still deeply regretting that I sold it. It was a great camera with a tilted screen. 😭 I will surely buy another one day. I miss it.
Man I miss my a200. I really liked the controls. I sold it mostly because I had a problem with the viewfinder in which if I took a photo it wouldn't come the way I was seeing it. It would pretty much push the image up a little bit causing sometimes to get people's feet cut off images.
Started with the a100, then 200 and 300 . If I had to do it all over again I would have stuck to just the 50mm 1.7 minolta and called it a day that lens is a beast
@@imnguyen6658 out of those mentioned ? A100 only because it was my first and just felt more natural for me to fling around . Out of the alpha DSLR line as a whole though that would be the a900

I do not have a Sony A mount DSLR but I do have several Minolta Maxxum autofocus’s film SLRs that do the whole not using the center point of the autofocus and i have to change it. Maybe it’s a Minolta Sony thing ?
Thanks so much for doing this. I’ve long had a hankering for one of the Sony SLTs and wondered what the lower-end ones were like. I also hear, like you said, that A-mount lenses are decent, plentiful and affordable. If anything might tempt me away from a cheaper Canon DDLR it might well be one of these :)

I got a sigma 18-30mm f 3.5-4.5 for $40. It's surprising how cheap how you got your lenses! I guess your video helped out a bunch with getting others to try it
Just picked up it's slightly newer sister, the A230 (worse grip, same sensor) for £50 UK plus the kit lens. That takes pretty nice images. Then added my cheap ass Minolta short zooms and yes, indeed, it started to really shine. Thanks for content Steven :-)
Thanks! And speaking of Minolta and film, have you ever used the Maxxum 5000? There’s a lot on eBay right now for only $30. I was thinking getting one for a video.
@@steve_heise I haven’t tried the 5000 but have two 7000i bodies which are usually super cheap and which is honestly an amazing camera. Nails focus and exposure better than any of my other cameras.
I was going to buy an Olympus EPM2 on Ebay and I saw a cigarette ash tray in the back ground of the image the seller took. I decided not to buy that one. I heard you really need to air those cameras out that have cigarette small. I heard someone bought a Canon 5D and it smelled really bad the new owner I think left it outside in a bag with baking soda. The new owner got the smell out. I think to get the smell out its needs a lot of fresh air.
Regarding Adobe RGB: all of the Olympus digital cameras you've made videos on allow you to choose either sRGB or Adobe RGB, and it is independent from other colour profiles/settings, such as contrast and saturation.
Aha - so are you saying it’s basically just the standard “sRGB / Adobe RGB” setting but Sony has it in the pictures profiles instead of in the menu like other cameras? Interesting.
@@steve_heise yeah, it's just a bit of typical Sony menu weirdness. Most other companies make it a separate selection, and you can still choose other picture profiles and get them in sRGB or Adobe RGB.
