      I'd seriously consider PhotoLab bit.ly/dxo-editing If I hadn't been using Lightroom since 2012 this is what I'd use. It's not as "creative" as the likes of Luminar, but it's just a solid Raw editor with a lot of quality.

    Great round-up and some tools were again new to me. Significant Affinity is dropping off the lists of must-haves… really think they dropped the ball on AI, although it’s still my preferred daily workhorse. And I’m still on v. 1!

    It's been a long time since I've picked up a camera and I used to have a lot of professional gear and I have received some technical training. I gave up trying to make a living from photography but I've missed shooting in general. I've recently purchased a Nikon P1000 and I've been wondering which editing software to purchase. I'm only familiar with Lr and Ps but as I say, it's been years and I've forgotten most things. I was leaning toward Luminar Neo thanks to your tutorials but now I'm back to being lost again. 😄

      If you want an editor Neo is great. It's a lot of fun to use too. I'm not big on all the extensions and AI so their base editor is a good choice. You can buy it outright and don't need the subscription. The ATNEO10 code might also add a further discount via the link in description 🤔 not sure around black Friday though....

    Affinity Photo 2 is also running a 40% off for Black Friday which is a very affordable photo editor (with admittedly a bit of a learning curve)

    Thank you Anthony. Your videos are absolutely the best. I have been watching and learning from you and saying Thank You just doesn’t seem to cover my appreciation.
    I will certainly upgrade my software after watching this video.
    I would greatly benefit from your input on upgrading my computer. I was going to ask you what system to purchase pc or apple. I currently have a 5 year old HPS Lecter that keeps locking up on my files from a Sony A1 . I assume my files are so large my computer just can’t deal with the old computer. I use Luminar Neo, Topaz Ai and rarest Elements. Which system do you prefer and what internal things should I get for the computer. I have no preference of system. Thanh you. Ray

      The new Macs with the Silicon processors are always great machines for any graphic intensive operations. With that being said and considering the amount of money you'd need to invest, I would personally just build my own PC. It can be rather daunting for someone who has never done it, but once it's done you won't have to upgrade for another 10 years.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  7 месяцев назад +1

      The standalone version of bit.ly/Luminar-NEO is really good value as a one off purchase. But if you're on a tight budget at the moment then maybe the monthly subscription is the way to go. Nik PhotoLab is good but you probably get a bit more bang for your buck with Neo.

    Great reviews as always, just wanted to mention that the Topaz offer you had shown us that you said was normally $199 USD but was discounted for Black Friday, the $199 USD was in fact the discounted price as the normal price was $456 USD. Thanks again for the review.

    Does any of these DxO programs do a good job at layer masking for real estate photography?
    Thank you in advance

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  7 месяцев назад

      If you're camera has a good dynamic range then you can use the local adjustments to control things like window exposure, or boost shadows in specific areas. The lens distortion controls, perspective correction along with DxO's unrivalled raw processing makes bit.ly/dxo-editing an excellent choice for real estate editing. Please note though it's a raw editor similar in style to lightroom so it doesn't add layers in the traditional sense like photoshop.

    Hi Anthony, I am an armature photographer with an old Canon 1100D camera that I have had from new. Even though I love this camera, the lenses are just ok and my images aren't the best. I bought Neo last year after watching your videos and love it, but I'm starting to think that many of my images need a specialist software to Catalogue my images so I can find them quickly and vastly improve them. I do like the looks of both both Topaz and DXO RAW. As my funds are limited, would it make more sense for me to buy just DXO RAW (if that's possible) for improving the RAW images and then use Neo (With extensions) to further develop my images? Or would Topax be the better overall image improver to start with? My pc is an Acer Aspire 1760 with 32 gig of RAM, i5 12400 6 core processor and shared graphics card, which I plan to upgrade when funds permit to a GeForce GTX 1650. Oh I plan to upgrade my monitor from a HD to a 4K one at a later date. Thanks for your input and have a blessed Christmas and awesome new year.

      Hi Steve. Good questions. TBH for file management and organizing your catalogue of photos neither Topaz nor PureRaw are going to help there. I'd recommend either DxO PhotoLab7 ( bit.ly/dxo-editing ) or ACDSee Photo Studio ( bit.ly/ACDSee23 ). Both solid options for managing growing catalogues of images and also great for editing too!
      To get the best starting point with your raw files I'd be going with DxO bit.ly/noisefree-RAW because as great as Topaz is for improving images, the output isn't raw.

    Thank you for the overview. I have been looking closely at the Topaz deal and have again gone back to my trial version of Topaz Photo AI to see the results compared to my DXO Pure Raw2. I find the differences minimal. I notice there is no comment regarding your Luminar Neo link. This I understand because Topaz tops it with all of the other apps. Still, as an enthusiastic amateur with a very limited budget who has few outlets to post photos anyway (only Instagram and Facebook), I think sticking with Pure Raw and Luminar Neo in combination is the way to go and save some pennys toward a camera upgrade. I may however consider an upgrade to Pure Raw3 but my trial last year showed it to produce a very big file with only minimal IQ over the earlier version. Its difficult! I am working on a 13in laptop so its hard to know what others see on their more expensive hardware. ($6000 worth!)

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Kim, TBH if you don't see too much difference then just stick with it. PureRaw has always been great at bringing out quality in raw files :) As for what I see on $6000 hardware... I'll find out when it arrives in about a week or so. I've held out on this upgrade for so long, but with running 2 monitors, editing photos and simultaneously recording and processing 4k footage my current machine is starting to lag unfortunately.

    I currently use Luminar Neo non subscription and I shoot primarily black and white, how does the Nik collection work with Luminar?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  7 месяцев назад

      It's not that it works "with" luminar. You'd load your photo directly in say, Nik SilverEfex, (bit.ly/nik-collection-dxo) do your black and white conversion there, and then you could continue working in Luminar after that - or the other way around if you prefer. TBH, with silver effex and what it can do, depnding on your edit you may not need to also use Luminar.

      All good my friend. As I mentioned in the video description this isn't sponsored by anyone. That enables me to be honest and objective with what I say. In terms of what's featured... for editng I use Adobe and Neo predominantly. For image file improvements I use Topaz. For troublesome noisy raw photos and prepping my raw workflow I use DxO PureRaw. For adding creative polish I use both neo and DxO NikColorEfex Pro.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, I use pureRaw to prep some of my raw files before working with then in Neo. Colorefex Pro is often also used as my "final polish" on an image. However, there is some cross over with similar tools between Neo and colorefex pro. If you have Neo already then colorefex isn't essential. 😊

      Different beasts. Topaz is great for overall file quality improvements. Sharpness, Denoise, upscaling. Whereas DxO does great optical correction and their deep Prime technology works wonders with RAW files.
