wtf is the point if they cut out the baby running into the wall
only reason to buy the game
I don't really get why people thought the original layers of fear was a bad game, It's honestly one of the most visually awesome horror games I know. It's not my favorite, that medal probably goes to Iron Lung or Amnesia, but it's not a bad or even just average horror game. It deserves respect, there are much worse out there.
@@ThomasNoname nah it's bad, you just walk around and look at things, like it's literally just a haunted house simulator, not much of a game really
@@Dom9606 Yes, it's a walking simulator, that doesn't make it bad. There are good walking simulators. Call of the Sea is also a walking simulator. Iron Lung too, technically. Agony too, SOMA I could go on. This game's goal is immersion, not game mechanics.
@@ThomasNoname if it's going for atmosphere then it sucks balls, the baby walking into a wall and making me laugh was the best part
'ooh isn't it weird how this wall changed when you weren't looking at it? or how you're going in impossible circles now?' layers of fear is the most literal haunted house simulator because you may as well just walk along a path and have a guy in a costume jump out at you every so often
An unexpected remaster considering how young the game is.
Thank you for the review!
It's a remake, not a remaster.
@@elibriner5974 again bit early for a remake considering how young the game is.
Those remakes of recent games makes me think that by 2030 each new number on the unreal engine will see a remake of every popular game/franchise
At least we can hope that Unreal Engine will keep incrementing version numbers instead of Epic going "yeah, we're just going to call each new version just "Unreal Engine". Have fun figuring out if someone is talking about the current version or one from a decade ago"
Except Bloodborne
I don’t see the point in remastering games this new.
They can either remake what they have or have come up with something new.
And nobody wants that again.
It's Bloober Team. They never miss an opportunity for a cheap cash grab. At least now they're stealing their own ideas instead of other peoples'.
let’s all blame Naughty Dog for starting this trend.
Layers of fear came out in 2016
@@eligaming1529 Yeah. 7 years isn’t a long enough wait to need a remastering.
It is nice that if you own the first Layers of Fear, this remake is 45% off on Steam (until June 22nd), making it $16.50 USD. Not bad at all, especially if you like the genre.
So it's essentially a $16.50 upgraded version.
And this is the same studio that is being trusted with the Silent Hill 2 Remake, yes Bloober Team is not the worst choice sense most of their games run decently and they clearly are fans of the Silent Hill franchise (Layers of Fear is just a P.T. clone), but so far most of there games really fail when it comes to their story telling and most of there games horror is Paint-by-Numbers (Pun intended).
Sure at best the Silent Hill 2 Remake is just a shot-4-shot remake of the original classic game just with a 3rd Person Camera, but if Bloober Team is given the freedom to "Improve" the Silent Hill 2 story and/or horror, then I feel like the remake is gonna feel more like a poor Fan Fiction take on the Silent Hill 2 story.
I'd rather have a non-tampered or remade version of the original three games available on your platform of choice. I can already anticipate Bloober Team "improving" the originals through not understanding what made them work in the first place. But if we have to have a remake, let Red Candle take a stab at it, seeing as they take far greater care and have a greater understanding of darker, more psychological themes. Or Frictional Games, who have sited Silent Hill 2 as an influence.
@@bluemooninthedaylight8073 I would have loved frictional games with their awesome HPL game engine remake silent hill with a fixed camera or 3rd person. Amnesia the bunker is amazing.
Not sure making this assumption just by this remake is fair, they've done a couple of other games.
Not worried about the story since they're just reusing the original for the most part. More concerned about the gameplay, the fact that it will be over the shoulder unlike the original and include combat which Bloober has never done before.
@@michaelh4227 I think you had a gun in Blair Witch Project? Or am I wrong?
Now keep in mind these guys are working on the silent hill 2 remake and shudder in terror thinking at how badly they might fuck it up
My bet is on a "walking sim with QTEs"
Is it a remake?
Can't wait for the Elden Ring Remaster
Elden Ring done in UE5 or something similarly advanced would be the shit. I mean, I think the game already is beautiful, but that has more to do with art direction than the game's engine.
What happened to to the teases at end of 2?
Man, now I'm excited about Metroid Prime 4 Remaster!
Id say purchasing this is only good if you dont already own any layers of fear games as the remake is 30$ while buying both 1 and 2 is 40$. Not to mention the extra content on top as a free addition and the free chapter releasing october 24th
I hope A LUCKY BREAK, AN ACE UP MY SLEEVE IS ALLL I NEEEDDD is still in the game
No baby running into a wall? Completely inferior.
Ima pick it up!
Wait didn't this come out like last year...wait there was a 2nd game?! And dlc??!
if u call last year 7 years ago then yes it came out a year ago
I was honestly wondering "Didn't this already come out? And wasn't it shit?"
They didn't remaster it the 3rd game is different from the others
Two of the games are remastered, and then there's a new chapter.
A new chapter... of shit 👌
I guess a new *ahem* layer of paint isn't enough to fix this walking simulator's rotten core
🧀
I really enjoyed the first game
This game looks grogious
Honestly, I enjoy the original better, they kind ruined the experience by changing and mashing things together.
This remake looks terrible. If you didnt show the dates id think the "remake" screenshots were the older game. This is just lazy they turned every incandescent light into a florencent or LED looking light lmao. Why are old lamps giving off bright white light?
Nothing you just whined about had anything to do with the game looking "older" y'all just be haters for no reason.
Sounds like I'm good to pass on this one.
It is so awesome when developers decide to overhaul and remake their game after some years. Like The Witcher 3. Beautyful game with so many details and among the best visuals nowadays. A perfect horror game with calming soothing rainy luxury mansion mood getting more and more disturbing and creepy.
For who consider about this game I honest review is can skip it I just finished the game and it’s super boring
I can’t find a review that tells me if the game is actually scary or not haha
I genuinely thought this was a retrospective review or something, why the hell would they remake/remaster/re-whatever this absolute meh of a game?
The better question is: why did they name it the same if it's a remaster and not a re-release, especially if it incorporates a DLC and a standalone sequel
@@NekoiNemo Lol, good point, this whole game is a mystery.
Because a lot of people loved it
Yeah, why would this happen to a critically acclaimed popular horror series? Gee whiz, big mystery. You sound like someone who still uses velcro shoes.
@@spibbymcgoo4877 "Critically acclaimed", lol? The Layers of Fear just barely hits the lofty heights of "decent" in the eyes of critics, and is generally panned or, at best, "enjoyed in the same sense one can enjoy a trashy B-movie" by the gamers.
layers of Meh
Thanks Unreal 5.
Next!!
Modern Unreal engine games have no art style, they can only sell you more graphics
counterpoint: Amid Evil.
it's not the engine, it's who uses it and how c:
At the end of the day, Unreal Engine 5 is still a tool for the devs. The lack of style is more telling to the ability of the devs. You have Arc System works with their Guilty Gear games looking hecking amazing artstyle wise, same as Hi-fi Rush and System Shock Remake. You gotta have time, dedication and maybe a bit of extra talent to have a good arstyle for anything.
Not’s not the fault of the engine but the developers and chosen art direction
Now we're getting remakes of mediocre games, what an industry
I hate this stupid naming trend. It's not "Layers of Fear", it's not even a "remake of Layers of Fear". It's a collection, anthology, whatever you want to call it. Why do pretentious companies struggle so much with basic naming of things?
Come on, "Layers of Fear Repainted"? "Layers of Fear: Portfolio Edition"? "Layers of Fear: The Gallery"? ANYTHING but just reusing the same name?
this was originally called "Layers of Fears," and I thought that was really clever because it is literally multiple Layers of Fear games. honestly, that makes it more baffling, because it was originally announced with a much cooler title.
I guess it's telling how cowards the devs are with anything truly original? Not even the remaster gets any subtitle for it.
not my kind of game
I like how you threw the idea that this wasn't made for people who already didn't like the original games as if that wasn't a completely braindead take.
