Little known fact: Fanny got permission from the Beatles to add another verse to Hey Bulldog. It's the one about attitude. Just saw Fanny live in Sacramento a couple of months ago. They are still kickin' serious rock and roll ass after 50+ years!
@@rathert3 Well, you can watch the show they put on in Sacramento on You Tube, so yes, they are still rocking. Most of the original band was there (not Nicky). Both drummers, June and her replacement Patti Quatro, and Jean was there although she can't play bass because of the stroke. She was able to sing however. Check out the film about them called "The Right to Rock". I know the Millington sisters personally. They continued to make great music for decades after Fanny. June still does.
Thanks for the info on the recordings. I was at the Sacramento gig in '23 and it was a real hoot! Easy for me as I live there. I complimented the girl on 2nd bass (why don't we know her name?) after the show and told her it looked like she was having a lot of fun. She said, "That's my job". I met the Millington sisters in the mid eighties. Ran into June at Wilbur Hot Springs (about 75 miles northwest of Sacramento) when I was doing massage there and June was the artist-in-residence. I was not that familiar with Fanny (shame on me), but I had seen her photo and credits on an early Cris Williamson LP, so I recognized her and started up a conversation. Started listening to her post Fanny recordings after that and immediately became a super fan. Soon after that I saw them live in Davis (a university town near Sacramento) as I was living there at the time. A few days later I ran into Jean on the street in Davis (pushing Lee in a stroller) and told her how much I enjoyed the show. We all became fast friends and believe it or not they played at my big 40th birthday party in '91. I paid them in trade with lots of massages. How cool is that? I also got to know their mother Yolanda who was truly their biggest supporter and was ALWAYS at their gigs during that time. If you are not familiar with their recordings post Fanny, I strongly suggest you check them out. "Running", "Heartsong", "One World, One Heart", "Ladies on the Stage", "Ticket to Wonderful", "The Slammin' Babes-Melting Pot", and "Play Like a Girl" are ALL fantastic. Many of their songs make me cry every time I listen. It's been one of the great honors of my life to call them friends. Also check out what June and her partner Ann have been doing with their organization called Institute for the Musical Arts near Goshen, Mass. June also has an autobiography out. Like Nietzsche said: "Without music, life would be a mistake". .
Recorded at WSIU-TV, the PBS station at SIU-Carbondale, the town I called home for over 40 years. What a band! Shoulda been big is an understatement. June is a monster on guitar, but Jean's bass and gorgeous voice makes the perfect rhythm section with Alice de Buhr, and Nickey Barclay's keyboards and vocals are incredible. Fanny could rock with any band of the day. The fact they were ground breaking women is just icing on the cake.
She is exactly that. Drummers back then could make or break a band. She is one of those drummers that knows when not to play and when to ramp up the power. She is a joy to listen to.
Oh, I know I had a few off nights....I still cringe when I speed up or slow down the tempo and it's not on purpose. Just lose myself in the energy! Thanks! Alice
Superb concert. Fanny should have been huge back in the day whereas now they just seem to be known as pioneers for women. They're all great musicians and boy can they rock.
Fanny sounds so Good, because they Practice,Practice,Practice everyday . At home while not on tour they practiced nearly 8 to 12 hours daily. They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame ! ❤
Yeah❣️ I love Fanny❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥. They were a rock group before many called themselves that These talented women are trailblazers and are so underrated. Much respect and love to them. 🙏💝💝💝💝
JUNE, JEAN, ALICE & NICKEY. They were ASTONISHING! Harmonies as tight and sweet as their music is dynamic and exciting! This is wonderful find and a great companion to their “Beat Club” sets!
I've noticed that too. Their harmonies are AMAZING especially considering they've got no monitoring system or headsets. They are simply that tight and in tune to each other that they know their parts. It's hard to get a GOOD harmony in the studio and yet they make it look completely effortless here live!
Amazing energy from all of them, especially Nickey pianoman...they clearly having some fun at the end aswell... :) What a drive when it ends....whooh...
Whoever did the sound mixing did an amazing job can clearly hear each drum piece. I have played the Les Paul June Millington used on this show, she showed me the key to start off “Charity Ball” in, I know who she bought it from one heard his name filled her in on what happened to him since he was a good friend, and played his hit song for her my way which thrilled her. Past few years Fanny had a reunion at June’s house and IMA in Goshen,MA before Jean’s stroke playing these same exact songs in this video 50+ years later with same perfect timing and harmony. Can look up this on June Millington’s RUclips channel, learn about her youth music camps, upcoming concerts at IMA, Books coming out, support Jean’s stroke recovery etc.

Big fan of Fanny - just found this gem video. I first started listening to them in HS in '70 or '71. One of the best rock bands of that era. They had it all: stellar musicianship, great vocals and great songs. They deserved SO much more.
As a Carbondale native, I recall Fanny playing SIU and doing this PBS "Sessions" recording. I was graduating high school and seeing bands like Fanny at SIU-C were a highlight of my new freedom having gotten my driver's license in 1971.

Wow, haven't seen this. Everyone in every video always comments on Alice's fantastic drumming, but I'm starting to notice how Jean's bass really drives the band.
