Wow, my band used to cover this song but I couldn't nail those solos like you. Alex has a very organic style and this is as close of a cover as I've seen. Great work on La Villa too.
This song is so intellectually complete. It becomes a part on me, and makes me cry. Why? because of the brilliant way it has been composed and the connection with human emotion, personal achievement and musical harmony to create parity of the soul with itself.
What a profound statement. You have put into words what a lot of us have experienced whilst listening to Rush. This particular gem is one of my favourites and is so complex both musically and lyrically. I also liked how Geddy changed the word "fashioned" as printed on the album cover to "fascist" when sung. Most of their work deserves comments as deep as yours. Take a bow my friend.
Very good job! I'm slowly trying to learn this piece - and I appreciate the help watching you play it has given me - so a BIG thanks. You do a great job of capturing the energy and excitement of the solos! As others have already said here - it is a brilliant composition of their's that works so well at every level.
1. Do you find Alex's newer or older material more challenging? and 2. Do or have you ever played with a band? Your playing is top notch, but keeping in time with other musicians is a whole nother beast. Love your interpretations, and without a whammy bar. NICE!
I can’t remember if it was this song or a different one on power windows that alex said was the most difficult for him to play. Either way, great job on this!
Great Job! I do however disagree with your choice of grips on the intro. I believe the shapes cycle so that A.L. is playing two slightly-different progressions. Very subtle piece of ear candy to catch. But, you are an excellent guitarist with a good ear.
Incredible. You were shredding the fretboard so well that I think part of your finger came off at 7:40! (A callus I presume?) Onward with "The Spirit of Radio" to complete Permanent Waves!!!!
How do you get all your tones to sound just like the recording? An example is on Limelight, I was baffled when I heard the chorus and solo. Please tell me. Thanks!
Blake Draughn I connect the guitar into a Boss Micro BR and get the sounds from that. I add an effect called chorus and add a sort of value amp sound with gain(that is also an effect in the BR).
the first solo didnt sound too good. the second sounded better. But I dont blame you as they are hard to do. But the rhythm for the rest of the song was fucking awesome.

One of fav Alex solos hands down. More like two really.

took the words right from my mouth. i couldn't explain the feeling but now it's right in front of me
i so hear you, you said it so beautifully.....if any song could launch me right out of my body...this one could

Is that a Tokai? Those are nice!
Too bad you can't hear my applause through the internet.
thanks a lot ;)
what is that odd chord (to me) @ 5:17 and @ 5:50? i love it, it almost does not fit, but it does to me. then again this is Big Al!
It's just an A chord but add C sharp (4th fret on the 5th string)

Lol im not new to guitars, I know what chorus is. Just wanted to know what you used to get your tone.
you asked him, he answered u, and u were rude back...have some respect...
+Blake Draughn yeah, and he told you how he got his tone, dummy.
how you hold your guitar haha nice cover man
What flew off your finger at 07:40 on the video counter?
I had a little plaster on the top of my finger because of a small cut, that flew off

was that your fingernail that went flying off at 7:40?
had a little plaster on the tip of my finger that flew off
It sounds like you are using a little flanger effect.
It's a chorus effect
That solo isn't close at all, but I'm sure you know that.
Harmonics are off in 1st solo
