For some reason the audio cuts out a little bit in the intro but i am not uploading this again. It’s nothing important, but it leaves a bit of an awkward silence lol.
ive been working on this since february, but this year was kinda crazy for me and ive never done something like this before so its taken all year to get out but it is HERE. FOR REAL THIS TIME.

i get recommended a lot of scattered pokemon videos from small channels but they don't usually stick. but i'm really glad i stumbled on this one. i managed to never hear of these romhacks before and it was a fun experience to watch you play through this game like this, and i don't at all begrudge the use of rare candies and giving up the nuzlocke so that you could finish it up. really liked this a lot!

@@mollyb5248 thank you! i know nobody really talks about this hack so i wanted to share it with the world and make something overdramatic to convey how it felt, lol. glad you enjoyed :D

Yoooo, 4 hour video on Dark Rising Kaizo!
I'll defend the existence of this peak schlock hack until the day I die

Well, now that I finally finished the video, here's an actual real comment:
-The many unused cutscenes and battles in the hack are remnants from the original non-Kaizo Dark Rising. The Kaizo version is actually a fanmade modified ROM hack by SinisterHoodedFigure (of the Emerald Kaizo fame). It changes many things in the story, I'd mostly say to the benefit of it. But I do also remember the changes messing with the continuity between entries (not like the many inconsistencies in the story don't exist to begin with). I did like that you gave the story and characters a proper examination, despite it all being flawed.
-While the Kaizo hack increases the difficulty, it does this by making trainers not use random AI and having interesting strategies instead of (usually) higher levels than the player. Funnily enough, the final battles are harder in the original hack. I bet 90% of players only beat the final boss by revive spamming to PP stall. That was because the "Elite 4 only legendaries" had massively inflated stats and the Dark Chaos move had 200 BST and always badly poisoned, OHKO-ing everything but the tankiest SP.DEF walls. It was only beatable for your average joe because you could item spam.
-I'd say the story of these hacks actually gets some facinating developments in the later entries if you have any desire to ever check them out. Obviously it's janky, but the some ideas are really charming, not that I can tell if they were intentional or not. Mainly how Jean Blake is handled and how one hack's endgame feels like a ingenious mastermind ludonarrative masterpiece when Arceus delivers on its godlike status and more (until the hack messes it up at, like, the last textbox in the entire game lol).
Sorry for the ted talk, I'm just very fascinated with this series of hacks

@@manekimoney yeah, i figured the scrapped stuff was from the original, but because i wasn't covering it, i couldn't confirm that so i left my language surrounding that stuff more speculative. though i have beaten firey in the original and seen a little bit of gameplay, and i can tell there's been a lot of improvements in kaizo! from what i heard about the original elite four, that checks out too. the kaizo elite four was difficult at times, but not in an unfair way with totally broken moves and pokemon lol.
not gonna lie what you said about the sequels is really intriguing, and i AM curious.......but since they're not remastered by someone more experienced like SHF i was afraid it would be an actual nightmare to play and probably actually impossible to nuzlocke if i wanted to make a followup to this video...but i really wanna see this masterful ludonarrative execution of arceus's powers, so maybe i will! and then i might end up playing ALL the games eventually.

Warning: You are about to decide whether or not you wanna read this long stupid-ass comment. In the meantime, here’s a TL;DR:
This game is a perfect way of testing how much bullshit you’re willing to put up with. Because even if you win, the unsatisfying~ass ending takes that all away. But anyways, Dray’s VA saying “my female girlfriend” puts a stupid smile on my face. Also enjoy the lil Nuzlocke comic, and that you made Boanut a mainstay after the failed Locke, even despite Leafeon being a physical attacker stuck in a Gen 3 game. (Damn you, Absol Syndrome!)
    ====================
    The actual comment:
Man, that entire Not-Silph through the Desert section is by far the worst part of this game. I especially hate the Desert: No heals after all of that, AND taunt me with false hope with the fake Chansey? That’s just fucked. I even threw myself to the wolves, just because I didn’t wanna go all the back AND forth. I also found out that sometimes, the building next to Not~Silph leading to the Desert will just… not work. I don’t understand why that happens.
Another part I hated was the Dark Lab, mostly because of being unable to use Flash. I don’t understand how the hell you got through Dark Lab puzzle without even trying. Especially since I know for a fact that there were a crap ton of tiles the game doesn’t let you walk on, almost all of which were the very tiles that would’ve got me past the puzzle legitimately. Frankly, with the amount of technical details you find with this game, I’m surprised you never mentioned it.
Also since you completely skipped over it (not that I blame you, since it was completely optional and has no bearing on anything… which is a shame, because I actually like this event), at the end of the Training Area, you can fight Mom and get yourself a Shaymin. Also, the wild ‘Mons in the area take after Snakewood’s Elite Four and jump 20 levels.

@@thyavenger9517 I HAD NO IDEA THAT WAS IN THE TRAINING AREA I SHOULD’VE GONE BACK AT THE END!!! It was tucked away in the corner and I completely forgot about it after passing it up, but that’s actually really cool.
as for the dark lab, i kinda memorized the exact path so i didn’t have much to say about it. i really liked reading your experience so thank you :)
