My goodness Brad, you and Leah have become great film makers! I've watched most all you have done for canoe routes since you and your dad started and you've gone from doing excellent informative canoe route video's to movie quality journey films! Leah also adds great input to make you guys a super team! Really looking forward to the next episode.
I don't understand how you don't get a netflix deal, I recently watched a doco on there and I have to say the production quality and content of this video is just as good!
I'm sure the planning stages were long and studied. Adventures like this kind are hard enough to take on. The fact that you both could manage such an excellent result with all the technology required is Amazing to me. Thanks for doing this!!
The planning portion is half the fun. We love to pour over maps, satellite imagery etc., and get excited about the upcoming journey. Maps are already scattered about for adventures in 2022!
What a marvelous video episode very interesting thank you for sharing so very much I am confident your future episodes will be every bit as inspiring. All the very best.
Hi, I’m a new subscriber, heard of you through a Baird Bros comment. Really enjoying the photography quality. You must have great cameras and talent for editing. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this series, and going back to view past vlogs. Thanks for sharing your beautiful country and your adventures.
I just subscribed to your channel. Watched this first episode and I'm hooked. Now going to watch the second video of this trip and start watching the rest of your videos. Thanks for sharing your adventures 👊👊👊
I'm not sure if this is the dawn of the paddling era on RUclips or the golden age already, but this hits a unique spot that combines an authentic route with good quality video that doesn't get too artsy. this combo is not frequently seen on youtube! and the little north certainly seems to make for good subject matter. it's just so pleasingly obscure, kind of like Labrador I suppose. not sure if jim Baird's and northern scavenger james bay trips count as little north or not, but its all great stuff!
Thanks JB! I try to edit my videos in a way that attempts to blend styles a bit. Glad you enjoy the approach! The James Bay area is part of the Little North so for sure adds to it. It's an area we'll be returning to explore in the near future! Still working away on the one from last summer. Northern Quebec and another obscure little river that captured a piece of our heart and soul for a few weeks.
Glad you liked them! They were recovered footage after we had an incident where we lost ALL out footage from this video and went through literally every means possible to recover. Our drone shots were the worst quality recovered so We are glad you liked them!
What a wonderful Part 1, great campsites and beautiful lakes! The woodland grouse zone, I know it well, always scares the crap out of me too! hahahaha! Looking forward to the 2nd episode, thanks for sharing. :) :)
14 minutes in and this is fantastic! The videography is awesome and you are both such great hosts taking me on an adventure. Please keep making such awesome videos.
This is fantastic, reminds me so much of when my dad used to take me and my little brother canoeing around the interior of Algonquin Provincial Park back in the late 1980's. This summer I'm going to make a commitment to get back on the water again even if it means a solo trip. Fantastic production work as well, very well done! :)
This is going to be epic! As someone who has never done white water tripping in 30yr of doing so, I love watching these types of trips. I am so envious!
Thanks Robert! It was eerily quiet at times. Some days you could hear a pin drop in the woods! With some of the cooler weather, the birds and animals seemingly went into hiding and left a still world behind.
@@ExploreTheBackcountry haha fair enough! It must be the fact that we're not allowed to do this stuff that I would actually love to be doing a 2km bushwack in 30 degree weather with bugs so thick that it's hard to hear and see right now.
Nicely done! The border closure has my Wabakimi adventure postponed 2nd summer in a row. Living vicariously thru your trip. I've often stared at maps of the area to the west of Pickle Lake wondering "what is out there!" Now I know - sorta! Thank you for sharing!
Ah, I know the feeling! This was actually our backup plan, and we put it together relatively quickly. The border closure shut out a lot of folks last year. Hopefully you can get to Wabakimi at some point in the near future. That's an incredible place to paddle!
Wow. This is well done. You two did a hell of a job with this 1st video. Not to mention your boating and camping skills. No fish to supplement the food stock?
Thanks so much! During the first portion of our trip we didn't have a lot of time to fish. did some fishing during the last third. No spoilers, but the weather didn't really help us then....
Really enjoying you videos. I would like to make a suggestion could you tell us about your gear, make and model of your canoe and paddle and the province you are paddling in thanks!
Hey there! We paddle almost exclusively in Northern Ontario (north of sudbury for reference), our canoe is a Nova Craft, we paddle several models including prospector ( for our all around canoe trips), moise model for when we do white water or big lakes (like when we paddle Lake Superior), and then the Cronji for flat water. Our white water paddles are aqua bond (loveeeee them) and then we have a few different wood paddles from a number of brands but mostly (Grey Owl paddles) and our tent and sleeping bags are Hot Core (another Canadian company who we beta test for) and then a hodge podge of other brands:) hope this helps!!!
Yeah, we bring the smaller ones sometimes too. We just didn't want to carry the extra weight over some of those treks. We were really tired most evenings that half a glass had us headed to the tent for some Zzzz's!
I do. Didn't have much time on this portion of the trip as we were trying to cover distance to maximize the buffer time we'd have for the headwaters. I fished daily after Whitelaw Lake, but the wonky weather we had wasn't helping land much.
You guys are my new favorite Canadian canoe camping channel!
Agree with most commenters - unreal quality videography & narration. Brad & Leah are living their best lives, role models for us all.
Great work. Big paddeling and great chili.
Amazing amazing amazing! Thanks for sharing B & L, looking forward to more!
Great work you two
Oh man that Mac and cheese with beef looked amazing !!!!! Cheers from northeastern Ontario !!!!
It was! A staple for our longer trips. Just packs the calories on in the best way possible! Cheers to a fellow Northy!
One of the best put together serious canoe trips, you folks do a great show
Thanks Lisa!! We try!
Awesome E1 Brad and Leah... looking forward to E2 and E3
Thanks Dennis!! Coming soon! Hope you enjoy!
They sure did a great job with this video!
Great trip, my friends did that trip 30 years ago, back then it was super 8 film, they wiped out in the Blue Chute. Well done
All i can say is WOW!!! Beautiful video.

Haha! Thanks!! Now I'm just imagining what I could do with a Netflix budget vs my fun money pocket change
You two certainly know how to capture the heart of the Canadian wilderness. Look forward to E.2.
God we love your trips. ❤️ It's good to be watching you again.
Great episode! Your filmmaking and narration gets better all the time. Can't wait for part two.
Thanks Walt!! Always trying new things with the edits. Tedious, yet fun. Glad it's slowly paying off and you've enjoyed the lasted video!
Thank you I enjoyed
Quality video guy's... narration, flow, edit, colour grading all next level. Can't wait for part 2!
Thanks!!! I wondered if anyone would notice the grading and if it was worth the effort. An extra day or two of work, but this confirms it's worth it!
Absolutely incredible scenery. Heaven on earth.
We love it up there. Just an amazing place to paddle!
Todos tus vídeos son increíbles, gracias por compartir. Saludos desde Montevideo Uruguay 🇺🇾
Those almost looked like partridge berries. Great episode! Can't wait to watch the rest.

Fantastic. Must be great to have wilderness like that on your doorstep, looking forward to the next episode 👍🛶
Really is amazing how much there is. Could honestly spend a lifetime paddling through the Little North and not see it all!
Albert is LEGEND.
That he is! Wealth of knowledge, super friendly and will go out of his way to ensure you have the best trip possible,. Great guy and great company!

I really enjoyed the drone shots down on you all paddling

Hope you got out on that trip this summer. Time spent in a canoe is time well spent.
Bravo tout les deux super de beau voyage ..continuer a nous faire rêver...merci
We call that cheeseburger mac,but we add tomatoes too.yum
Mmmm! So good after a day of paddling! No Tomatoes here, but we did top it with ketchup!!
This is going to be epic! As someone who has never done white water tripping in 30yr of doing so, I love watching these types of trips. I am so envious!
Only a bit of whitewater in Pt I and II. But part III has all the reallllyy fun sets!
Great job with your video! 👍
Many thanks!

Great video, can't wait for the next one
The hanging trap was a nice visual validation of time going by. Narration was well done as well. How quite it must have been. Nicely done.~~~
Thanks Robert! It was eerily quiet at times. Some days you could hear a pin drop in the woods! With some of the cooler weather, the birds and animals seemingly went into hiding and left a still world behind.
Wow, awesome videography & dialogue, some incredibly beautiful shots there too. Really loving this video.
Thanks Paul! Tried a few different things production wise this time, but the land does a good job of presenting herself!
Great video! Can't wait to see more!
Thank you!! Soon!
Excellent episode - your videos are always fantastic for entertainment and insight - great stuff :)
Great episode! Your filmmaking and editing gets better all the time. Can't wait for part two 👍😊

So Beautiful 👊🏽
Great start to the trip guys, looking forward to the next episodes, looks like it gets good!
Ha, if by good you mean sloggish, then yes! :D Things certainly get more interesting at the height of land....
@@ExploreTheBackcountry haha fair enough! It must be the fact that we're not allowed to do this stuff that I would actually love to be doing a 2km bushwack in 30 degree weather with bugs so thick that it's hard to hear and see right now.

Time for me to get a canoe.
A fine idea! Endless possibilities for exploring await!
Can’t wait😘
New sub. Thanks for sharing this! 👍😏🛶🌲🇨🇦👌🔥
Thanks for the sub!
Ok love the videos but can you write a book with the lost routes? I can read, watch and drink whiskey at the same time.
Brads working on it! Trust me! He has a massive repository of lost routes and he’s plucking away at the boook
Miss you videos!! Hoping that everything is ok.
Oh we're around. New content dropping in a few days!!
Wow. This is well done. You two did a hell of a job with this 1st video. Not to mention your boating and camping skills. No fish to supplement the food stock?

Great vid with nice comentry, may i ask were you got your spray deck?
We got our spray deck from North Water out of Vancouver:) wonderful quality and service
This was yalls honeymoon? Lol, looks amazing though.
Ha, no. We got married in the fall, but definitely honeymoon material :D
@ Tammy Vincent, Where did you go on your honey moon?
We went to the Smokies and stayed in a remote cabin. Nothing close to the remoteness of the wilderness in this video.
"Land Of The Original People" DOESN'T sound like it was created to help land treaty law cases in court at all....
No fishing at all wow
how many cm is your double blade?
i prefer lone paddlers...its much more nicer and quieter...two people is just too much noise...
The cat river was beautiful. Perhaps the box of wine should have been broken down into foldable bottles?
Yeah, we bring the smaller ones sometimes too. We just didn't want to carry the extra weight over some of those treks. We were really tired most evenings that half a glass had us headed to the tent for some Zzzz's!

I want to do this
Do it… god knows we cleared all the portages and marked them for you😜
lol..who downvotes this stuff?
