Programming New Vin To 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee PCM Using Launch X431

The issue with this Jeep is that the alternator would not charge the battery. We tired a few junkyard alternators and they did not fix the issue. Traced the problem back to the PCM as it was not giving the signal to the alternator to start charging. We got a used PCM for it but it needed to be VIN matched to the vehicle for the red security light to go off and the rest of the modules to be able to communicate with it. This Launch scan tool worked great and was easy to flash the new VIN to the used PCM.
Is it that easy with newer year cars ?
@@gocrazyaj3398 depends on the manufacturer, some are a little more complex than this due to more complex anti theft systems and so on
Is software free with the scanner or did you have to pay extra for the ecu programming

I have that same scan tool but wont let me write the vin man its frustrating
I had the same issue with my launch throttle 3 scan tool and I found out that every time the scan tool does an update they also remove functions from older vehicles to free up the memory in the scan tool. It pissed me right off

@@chrissantos3415 there is a technical support phone number you can call to find out if that function is supported for that vehicle. I had issued writing the vin on a 2011 Jeep wrangler.. would be nice if they allowed you to keep specific functions
