This may have already been addressed, but as an owner of many of these sanders, I have found that the 18v Bosch sander works SIGNIFICANTLY better with a pad saver and very low vacuum suction. It also functions much better with full batteries, So I keep 3 on rotation every 15 minutes or so. When these needs are met, it is actually one of the smoothest sanders I own, and I primarily use ETS EC 150 sanders.
Great video. This is the kind of information that helps us perform well without overspending. Bosch has always been a good choice for my shop. There is so much content with Festool, im sure its all good stuff but, I cant justify the dough.
Here in Europe, both Bosch and Festool are revered brands. My parents have always used Bosch tools and although I would like to use Festool, I can't justify the cost of those products yet. I have the CTL-MIDI dust extractor and it does its job perfectly with all of my Bosch tools. I do have a Festool C18 cordless screwdriver/drill and it's my workhorse, it does it's job for almost six years now. Many thanks for this video, I was looking for a side-to-side comparison of Festool vs Bosch Professional and I appreciate your video.
Really great video. I have watching a bunch of these as I want to buy a great sander once without regrets and your video was probably the most helpful so far.
I'm interested in a sander and the Bosch GEX34-6N sounds perfect for me because vibrations are my biggest motivation for upgrading. I'm not against spending more but that would mean I put off the purchase, but it's nice that it's the lowest vibrations in this shootout. It's too bad the battery unit wasn't great. I have it and my biggest complaint is the vibrations. I appreciate the shootout.
Nice video, I did a ton of research a few months ago comparing the get to the Rotex. Came to the same conclusion as you guys, festool is a little bit better but not at twice the price.
Bosch is an excellent manufacturer that doesn’t get much love in the US. I am almost exclusively Bosch in my shop, and that is having used several Festools. Can’t go wrong with either brand 🤝🏽
as a novice my first powered sander is GEX18V-5N. I paid $164 shipped for new sander, open box 4.0 battery and open box charger. Project Farm has a rigorous 18V sander comparison and the GEX18V-5N stomped all competitors in all metrics. It hurts to pay the cordless premium but eliminating the risk of tripping on a power cord is worth quite a lot to me. Jonathan katz-moses has a rigorous robotic sandpaper test and based on those results I'm starting with a variety pack of Cubitron Mesh.
I agree. I love everything I have from them and am looking to make a switch for a lot of my tools. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with what I have but I just really like Bosch. I wish we got the stuff Europe gets. They get all the cool stuff Bosch makes
@Shannon-v3r I’ll clarify that it is cordless tools I order. Shipping can be expensive but yes. Some things can’t ship due to size, but I’ve ordered angle grinders (with control interface), impacts, tools bags, etc. Most cordless come with L-box and Bluetooth module.
This was an excellent video. I would love to see a head to head comparison of the Bosch dust extractor vs a Festool version. For the price, Bosch gives you more capacity but I would love to see if the performance is similar because I’m totally thinking about getting a Bosch. And some sanders.
I purchased a used one as the piece is a bit pricey, but the machine ruclips.net/user/postUgkxG6fbm3cHBd7CNTjk5D-dwYe9c9tCB9ZN has surpassed my expectations. We sand small parts by hand often, sized around 1"x1/2," and specifically look for a piece that's designed to be vertical. The motor has plenty of torque and great speed settings. The only inconvenience I had is that the disk measures 5" where we trim 6" stick-and-sand disks down easily by mounting it then cutting with a box cutter.
Thanks for this video. Very informative. I don't own a festool sander but have used one. I was impressed with how quiet the vacuum is. Can you tell me if the Bosch is as quiet? Thank you.

The MOST important aspect of a sander for me is vibration, period. Sanding quality and speed usually comes down the to the sandpaper, which is Cubitron II or nothing!
I came across this video researching the Bosch sanders, but I noticed something and just have to ask. Is that a gator skin apron? Because that’s just freaking awesome!
I need to agree - I got the large bosch with a vibration damping system - after the first start I could not believe how fast, vibration free and pleasant to use it is. Comparing to other sanders I had before it is insane, it vibrates NOTHING.
Your ETS EC125/3 EQ vs Bosch GEX34-6N comparison is flawed not b/c of the pad size, but because of the stroke size. The Bosch is 4mm, the festool is at 3; The 3mm stroke is a specialized sander for finishing a finish and is significantly slower than even the equivalent 5mm from Festool.
I do a lot of tables, I would still recommend the Bosch before the festool if you are someone getting started. The price point makes it a no brainer. They almost the same as festool, I’ll post an update video at the 2 year mark
