Been having my dad's (RIP) Craftsman drill press for years and decided to restore it. Came upon your video. Exact project that I will be doing. Great video. Thanks

Thanks for this. I just bought this same model second hand from Facebook market. One owner who really didn’t use it often so it didn’t have as much work to be done on it. Your video will help me to remove some of the surface rust that is visible. Thanks.

Nice work! You might be able to restore the Craftsman logo letters to bright white by using hydrogen peroxide, oxy clean, and sunlight or UV lamp. It looks just like how old computer keyboard keys turn yellow over time. I took the keys off put them in a dish lined with tin foil that had water, hydrogen peroxide and oxy clean and let them soak in direct sunlight. It whitened them up big time!

Did your peace the bearings? I have a 9” craftsman and it has a slight wobble at the chuck which you can tell by the bit. I’m assuming it’s the bearings or bearing.

Beautiful. I can’t seem to knock the noise out of mine. The chuck wants to migrate a little bit at the bottom of the cycle. And there just seems to be too much play like the bearings are bad. Were you able to replace the bearings with what you did? I didn’t see that. Thank you very much for this great video.

I tried repeatedly to get the top nut off the pulley, even tried with my impact and heat. I couldn’t get it off, but I didn’t have any play in my bearing so I figured at that point if it wasn’t broke don’t fix it. Thank you for the kind words!

@@masonmakes5396 and that is what is required to remove the bearings? There should be three sealed bearings.

Once you have the chuck off the press, check if you have a retaining clip on top of the spindle. If so remove that and you should be able to get those bearings out because they’re a friction fit. I didn’t have an issue with my chuck so I didn’t fool with it.

@@masonmakes5396 All right I just now figured out that it has a left-hand thread. So if you’ve been trying to loosen going counterclockwise you’ve been tightening.
