  • Cars outnumber bikes in nearly every city in the world. But 3 cities have bucked the trend. In this video, we look at how Amsterdam, Copenhagem and Freiburg have turned the tables and transformed into models of bicycle-friendly living, challenging the car-dominated status quo.
🚴 Amsterdam: Discover the historic journey of Amsterdam as it evolved into the world's cycling capital. With more bikes than people and an extensive network of bike lanes, this Dutch city offers invaluable lessons in urban cycling infrastructure.
🚴‍♂️ Copenhagen: Learn how Copenhagen turned the 1973 oil crisis into a catalyst for change, investing heavily in cycling infrastructure and becoming a global benchmark for bike-friendly urban planning.
🚴‍♀️ Freiburg: See how Freiburg's commitment to sustainable transport and pedestrian-friendly initiatives has made it a leading example of environmental urban design, prioritizing bikes and public transport over cars.
This video also highlights the broader global trend towards more bike-friendly cities, citing examples like Seville's bike network and Portland's car-free Sundays. It's more than just a story about cycling; it's a conversation on reimagining urban spaces for a healthier, more sustainable future.

How odd. Been riding a bike for a long time and never rode in a huge crowd as shown here. What a terrible idea. You might as well be in a car on a crowded street, constantly looking here and there to avoid a collision. Ugh! Bikes really are for people who like freedom from all the busyness of urban life. Stop encouraging people to switch from one frustrating form of transportation--the automobile--to another--bicycle herding. One is almost as bad as the other. Let bikes continue to be the best way to get away from it all. There are so few things left that offer us a chance to do this. Nowadays, these cycling advocates are trying to take that away from us and turn cycling into the same kind of "normalized drudgery" automobiles have given us.

Great stuff! This channel deserves more views, some a-roll footage may help if you can find a way to include relevant film of your own.
I rather like the format as it is...
    Appreciate the work 😊

How does cycling work when it's raining, snowing, freezing cold, and insanely windy and stormy? How do cyclists carry heavy, bulky, items/furnishings, like cellos and trombones? How to musicians transport their sound systems? What about long trips? Will you be too exhausted to teach your classes at the university, perform your duties in the ER, or drive those bulldozers? I’m a cyclist and love it, but bicycles may not be the panacea many of us want it to be. Cars are still needed, but, yes; let’s reduce our dependency on them. I do wonder if I’d like riding my bike in a huge crowd as shown. In my experience, one of the most enjoyable things about cycling is having a lot of riding space to myself, not having to constantly watch out for bikes or cars everywhere.

You need to watch videos on countries with all that type of weather you mentioned that ride their bikes and also have cargo bikes to carry their belongings like groceries and children among other things. Its pretty straightforward and not uncommon at all.

@@willpotter22 Oh, is that right? Have seen many such videos. Some die-hard cyclists would ride their bikes to the Moon and back if they could. It's human nature; tell people they can't do something and they'll eventually do it to prove you wrong. The average cyclist simply would likely opt out of riding in inclement weather if they could. Of course, if you live in a place where such weather is an almost daily occurrence, then you have little choice but to hop on your saddle and peddle away.

@@dolittle6781their not die hard cyclists by any means, they just have good balance of infrastructure that provide alternatives to driving. It’s pretty straightforward. As long as they have good infrastructure they say to themselves “oh i can just ride a few minutes to the shop or laundromat, then a bakery” its not rocket science

Most cyclist advocacy are always complaining about cars insted of understanding and recognazing why cars are so convenient, fast, reliable mode of transport.

Agreed. Cars ARE great... between cities. But in cities, they just don't work. It's a fundamental space issue. High density population + cars = congestion

Cars are great but overrated due to the fact how much their infrastructure is subsidized
