The organ of Westminster Abbey possess a commanding personality in terms of its rich tones. The acoustics of the cathedral itself further enhances the organ's tonal qualities and diversity. Definitely, there is something unique about this organ (though I'm not sure what it is) judging by its fullness of sound. The organ must be immensely proud to be in Her Majesty's service.

Westminster Abbey (or the Collegiate Church of St Peter, Westminster to give it its correct title) is a "Royal Peculiar" under the jurisdiction of a Dean and Chapter, subject only to the Sovereign and not to any archbishop or bishop. In other words, the King or Queen calls the shots, not some lowly archbishop. 🙂

I've noticed from all of these videos just how low church they are in the C of E. No incense, no bowing to the processional cross from anyone. No genuflecting. (They might as well be southern baptists by their behaviour!) Do they even bless themselves when the Trinity is spoken? I had no idea they were so low church, including the Royal Family (of all people!). I mean, the Queen is the head of the Church along with the Archbishop of Canterbury. What makes the liturgy feel higher is the music, with superb organ playing, the glorious descants and the state trumpeters. Another odd thing is that some of the women curtsy to the Queen and the men nod or bow their head briefly to the Queen in procession, yet the same people do not bow to the processional cross. It's as if they have more respect and reverence for the Queen than they do the cross and The Holy Trinity. We were taught in Anglican Confirmation Class that one bows to the processional crosses and at other times in the liturgy. I see none of that here.

Holy Communion 1st 3rd and 5th, Morning Prayer 2nd and 4th. Genuflect at the altar, bow when the cross goes by, cross yourself Anglican style, hymns, but no incense or sung services. Dad would say High Church is mainly east coast. Churches out here now are higher in some ways and lower in some ways (incense and sung services are more common mainly on holy days).

@ Bolligelo: The organist was improvising at the end of the hymn, a skill that is required for organist of this caliber in Anglican liturgies. He was merely improving in the style of the hymn and in the exact same key (B Flat Major I think). It wasn't a composed piece even though he improvises so splendidly that it sounded like a composed piece. Hope this helps.
