- Having recently done a video tour Arthouse Direct's store in Melbourne, they kindly gave me a paper bag full of freebies, including paper samples and other art supplies. I will open the bag today and see what goodies are inside!

I love your idea of comparing the 100% cotton, 50% cotton & cellulose papers for another video, I think it'd be super interesting to see what the differences are 😊 Especially as I've never used cotton paper myself & have been wondering how much difference there really is 💕
In my experience there's usually a huge difference and once you go cotton you can't go back to cellulose, lol! 😂
Just avoid really cheap cotton paper, the fibers are so short the paper deteriorates easily. But decent quality cotton paper is the best! If you like wet in wet watercolour there’s nothing better.

Claire Fontaine is sold commonly in US but I don't have a lot of experience using it. Your Dad may need some new paper samples too???

Pastel pencils are definitely a supply that I’d like to get better with…I tend to struggle with them!

Your apples with only the three pastel pencils looked great on both papers. I will be interested to see how the Clairefontaine 100% cotton paper compares to other popular 100% cotton brands, especially to Arches.
It's fun using only three primary colours in a drawing or painting. I'm really hoping the cotton paper is good - I haven't had a chance to paint on it yet.

As someone who is completely clueless about papers, sample packs are genius. Now i wish i lived near an art store. Lol
It's worth checking out Jackson's Art online as they often have sample packs for sale (minimal prices) and I've gotten things from them before, like mini Stonehenge paper pads and I think even the Stillman & Birn pack. I hope they still have stuff available! 😊
Clairefontaine is sold in my local art store in NB, Canada and it’s also sold at a popular online art store in Canada. It’s one of those brands that I recall seeing around all the time, but I don’t actually think I’ve purchased any of their products!
I only had a couple of those Goldline sketchbooks by them, so I'm glad to be able to try out some of their other papers. 🙂

Those Stillman & Birn samples are interesting! Wish I'd known they were a thing before buying a few of the books because I wasn't sure what I wanted hahaha
Ah yes that's so hard having to choose a book when there are different papers - getting samples helps a lot in the decision making process. Not always easy to find them though!

I have the Claire Fontaine Paint On mixed media paper in blue, and it’s fantastic for coloured pencils. I highly recommend it!
I'll have to get my coloured pencils out and try it on this pad they gave me - the paper feels perfect for them! Thank you for the confirmation. 😊

I have some Clairefontaine pastelmat. I really like it. I used it for my first Primacolor drawing when I got my set 6 months ago and a few weeks ago I used it again to draw my kitty Trixie when I got some cheap pastel pencils to try. I found pastel pencils to be so easy to use. I haven't tried pans and sticks though and those look scary. I think because I have become decent with coloured pencils overall, I found pastel pencils easy to use. I loved how you could blend colours on the paper. I can understand your reluctance with them though.
It's funny that both of our cats are called Trixie! I like the pastelmat, it's so velvety! My issue with pastel pencils is the speed at which they lift or smudge, and I want them to act like coloured pencils but they aren't quite the same, haha. I'm a lot more heavy handed with coloured pencils, especially when colouring in with them.
The paper samples packs are a great idea. The Stillman and Birn one would have been useful to me recently but I can't seem to find one here. I've tried the Zeta, Alpha and Beta sketchbooks now but it would have been nice to be able to try the paper and then buy the book I wanted. Oh well 🤷♀
Does Jackson's Art ship to NZ? I'm pretty sure they have (or had!) that sample pack to buy for a pittance. It's worth checking!

Oh wow how lovely of Art House!! I'm so looking forward to seeing all the freebies put to use in future video's YAY! I'd be curious about the 50/50 papers as I've only recently just tried 100% cotton and oh boy what a revelation!! I don't think I will be able to go back to just cellulous paper now, but I can't really afford 100% cotton hence I'd like to see the 50/50 paper, and I can't say I've seen any Claire Fontaine paper in the crappy stores by me either, (U.K) but I wasn't really looking, but now I will :D
I haven't tried much if any 50/50 paper so I'm also curious to see how it'll go. That has to be a future video! Cotton is the best...I can't use cellulose anymore, lol.

Just my personal opinion: Clairfontaine Pastelmat is one of the best sanded papers out there for pastels and even colored pencils. Maybe I didn’t catch it, but did you get a sample of that too?

I didn't have pastelmat in the bag, but I'd agree that the Clairefontaine version is lovely and has a nice velvety feel. I think I may have some lurking somewhere in my studio - I'll have a rummage and see if I can unearth it.
I’ve heard of Clairefontaine but I’ve never seen it in any of my local art stores in British Columbia Canada.
I think they've really just started to become more prevalent internationally in the last few years so I'm sure they'll become even more popular over time. 😊

RUclipsrs always get free samples of everything. Not exciting at all. For reviews, I would rather the products that I can buy in Australia and how much they cost in AUD, so I know if I can afford it or not, and a demo, so I know if I want it or not.
That's fine - I'd just done a tour of the shop in my previous video and was following up with the samples they gave me (perk of the job!), but yes all of these should be available in their online store so if you check out the link I added in the description you'll hopefully be able to find the products with their prices. I don't often talk about prices in videos because they change over the years and the numbers become inaccurate with time.
Oh wow people with money getting free stuff! 🙄 they will be better off giving this to their loyal customers, no to someone that has the means to buy them.
