This video sheds light over the source of Lovecraft's inspiration for his pantheon. Not only had he access to his grandfather's library which was full of classic literature, but also his family was possibly involved in the many secret societies and esoteric groups that were in fashion amongst the elites of the time. Masons, Francmasons, Theosophy, Gnosticism, probably his grandfather was involved with such groups and had plenty of books on the subject. After his death, a young and susceptible Phillip started reading these volumes and mixing up the occult and esoteric ideas with the classic Greek mythology. Hence his obsession with secret cults and cursed lineages.
My personal take is that we can't equate Azathoth with the Demiurge. In fact Azathoth is more like an inversion of Gnostic theology. Azathoth sleeps & dreams the universe into existence... but as with human dreams, the products of his sleeping mind are chaotic. In such a scenario, the Demiurge wouldn't be blind or sleeping - it would in fact have awoken to the dream. The Demiurge is then able to impose order & structure on the dream, as a lucid dreamer can in a human dream. But, crucially, the Demiurge isn't the one who is dreaming. It is as if, when you were dreaming, one of the *other* characters in your dream became lucid, & attained the abilities which go along with being lucid in a dream. Recognising that it, & everything it knows as reality is, in fact, a dream being dreamed by another entity, the Demiurge is able to shape reality as it chooses... but knows that if the dreamer, Azathoth, awakens from the dream, then from the Demiurge's (& our) perspective, everything ends. If Azathoth awakens TO the dream, then it would rival the Demiurge's power to shape reality... but however fun having a lucid dream might be, ultimately it is in the dreamer's interest to awaken FROM the dream. So the Demiurge must keep Azathoth asleep, keep it dreaming & also keep it ignorant. Azathoth must not realise it is dreaming. We, creations of the dreaming mind of Azathoth, just as the Demiurge is, must surely side with the Demiurge. Our interests align. In this scenario there is no spiritual realm for us to wake up to. If Azathoth wakes up, we are gone. By us waking up to the dream, we can obtain some, perhaps all, of the abilities that the Demiurge has. But we are also constructs of, parts of, Azathoth's mind. With every one of us who becomes lucid, do we increase the likelihood that Azathoth as a whole will become lucid? By achieving lucidity, do we become a threat to our own existence? The Demiurge might not want the competition when it comes to shaping reality, & might also conclude that every lucid being is a step closer to Azathoth awakening to, & ultimately from, the dream. In which case, we are caught between a rock & a hard place - although our interests might align with those of the Demiurge rather than those of Azathoth, the Demiurge might perceive lucid beings as both competition for its power, & an existential threat. Perhaps we shouldn't be encouraging people to awaken to the dream.
I had a perceived 41 good years, and while I'd like another 1000 more or so, I've begun to learn the ebb and flow of humanity's nature. On that note, I think I'd be ok if the dreamer awoke.
Azathoth was actually inspire from another creation of Lord Dunsany's Mana-Yood-Sushai who created the god then would be luled asleep by the drummer Skarl. In that, he would dream existence and the gods who would create existence in his dream, and when he woke, the gods would find an escape to continue their existence after the dream ended.
If we live in a universe indifferent to our existence and our lives truly have no purpose or significance in the grand scheme then all that really matters is our own perception of it. If we only have our microcosms to worry about then maybe we just have to make our own purpose in that sphere. This is a rather liberating line of thinking. If it only matters to me and the people in my life, then I’m free to decide all of that for myself free of the burden of divine expectations.
It’s so odd that I made this observation just two days ago. The Gnostic Gospels place the biblical God as a “Blind Idiot God”. The first thing I thought of was the supreme cosmic horror of HP Lovecraft that created his universe.
@@YearsOVDecay1 I was using the concept as a metaphor, understanding 'materializing' or solidifying. Isn't the cat inside the box non-material till someone sees? A probability, energy?
@Torch4Life That doesn't even work as a metaphor though. That may be because you indeed fundamentally misunderstand Schrodinger's Equation. A thing does not solidify, or become corporeal in the way you're implying. A particle is in a state of superposition prior to it's measurement/interaction which causes the state to collapse into one possibility. Particle/wave collapse is not materialization, as the wave/particle is also in itself a material. To be clear, superposition does NOT mean that a particle is in both states until measurement/interaction, nor is it neither states, but rather that a particle is EITHER OR states prior to collapse. Thus, you can conclude that the potential particle for each state already exists, but does not yet appear. I hope that clears any misconceptions you may have. I personally prefer to play as a chaotic neutral teifling bard. I suppose everyone had their DnD preference's. Oh, @keithchambers2189 I almost forgot to mention. What are you even talking about? I don't even believe that Jesus was the son of god in a way that made him special. Only evidence for that is a book made of largely outdated stories that don't lead nowhere. Hooo-eh, that's some stanky shit you fling'n there, jazz. At least it's funny.
You can't call the simulation hypothesis "one of the most compelling connections drawn between Azathoth and modern science" and then credit it to a philosopher -.-; Philosophy is valuable, but it is NOT science.
Simulation hypothesis, along with Panspermia, are both concepts that, if someone asks about it in a lecture, I treat it as "kicking the can down the road." It doesn't matter. They're pop culture distractions. Neither of them matters. In both cases, life still had to start SOMEWHERE. In my own words: "Focus, pigeons."
I wonder if cooked to a nice medium rare if azathoth would be tasty and filling as a meal, and the rest of his family, they all feel like space seafood to me 🤤🤤🤤
Everything you can imagine is real. - Pablo Picasso Even death will save you from the dreams. - S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl You can have encounters with these entities on DMT or high doses of mushrooms.
In the simulation hypothesis, I'd equate Azathoth not with the programmer, but with the program itself. A program blindly follows a path that's laid out for it, not comprehending what it's simulating, arbitrarily deleting and reshaping the simulation it controls without understanding any of what it's doing. The programmer might be blind to individual entities within that code's procedural generation algorithm, but they can - and often do - zoom in on random elements to inspect them. They are willfully blind, and able to remedy that blindness with ease. The program is blind by design and nature.
The great idea behind every littles and grown ups fear. Longing sadness transforming into madness ones innermost. Eternal guest the unseeing host makes no exception to what is lost. No word, no shape, no concept even desription at stake of the unsaid but heard.
I think the concept of that we create reality with our conciousness that if we cease to exist, reality ceases to exist too is kind of an idea born out of narcisism like "main character syndrom". Its overthinking something to the point of being unhealthy imo. Obviously something existed befor for concious beings to be able to evolve in, so will a reality still exist way past our time, even if its just an empty void. Also about that concept that we live in a simulation, ultimately you are still you and the rules of our reality never change, so if true does it really matter? Not to mention that there is no way to verify this and to compare it to our current ability for computer simulation is already flawed because if our reality is simulated, it would still be vastly different and way beyond of our ability of computing we could ever imagine. Examples i've heard as proof that we live in a simulation mostly draw similarities from current computer simulations and our reality mostly with math, but math is the univarsal language of the universe and is a constant which made computing for us possible. So you could actually make the opposite claim with this and take it as the reason that we don't live in a simulation and that its all real.
While i get the dream nareative being more appealing, i prefer lovecrafts original take on azathoth. Its not dreaming reality into being, its not a puppet master or overlord, its just a lump..that sometimes twitches.. thats it, thats the absolute center or the multiverse and all possible realities, the alpha and omega... And its less sentiant then a arock. What hope is there, what purpose or truth, when the ultimate state of reality is..THAT..
To be fair, in Lovecraft's own original work, the Universe and all things in it are Yog-Sothoth-including Azathoth. Even when Azathoth wakes and enacts his final Feast, there will still be Yog-Sothoth.
The fact that particles react only when observed actually means theyre ''aware'' somehow. Therefore, if a being as ancient and all creating as Azathot or real religion similar beings named in the video... is not just not ignorant but aware and extremely smart.. able to control the particles observed alone preserving reality at it is with no big consecuences, and not all at once...distorsionating, twisting and breaking reality itself. Like im my lucid dream where I died in a Field at ww2 by a German sniper and ended in the Chaos darkness after 5 minutes of my fellow marines tryed to revive me. Without waking up until i asked ''Now what?'' Then I woke up in an instant. Was so real to me that made me feel like, for real I was dead and at the life i had, and have now where all illusions and I was alone in the nothingness just being a mind. And after thinking all kind of ideas., Like even I was god and somehow had to star the Big Bang myself, from I just wait to it to start and reincarnate. I even experienced the sense of ingravity, and only felt my forehead and the back of the neck. Also felt no fear or anything... I wanted to move, but in the nothingness i could be not moving or going light year fast that would make no diference So when I was ''bored'' of being dead I ended asking, my voice sounded like a psycophony as i had no body... And the fact that right away I woke up, made feel sure that I was not alone, but with a counsiousness that had no percetible presence and did not answer with words but facts. Waking up was its answer. I even answered myself when I look to my hands once awake ''Now this'' Since then I dont fear death and truly believe in reincarnation

The creatures described are beings that not even the SCP foundation, were it real too, would be capable of defending itself against. And you don't need me to tell you that Nyarlathotep hasn't unleashed a nightmare situation where the sun melts our skin in a specific region that made a deal with it, and Shub hasn't spawned an army of Shoggoth that would be able to break their way out of any steel prison we could hope to put them in. Ive had a thought like this when i was young. Around 8 or 9. Ive had thoughts we could just be a momentary thought. Time wouldn't effect something like that the way it does us. Ive since learned different through experience. Its something that is unexplainable.
Azathoth is like Shenron from dragon ball. They are like a kitsune, which has an orb. Azathoth is a old kitsune and has 9 orbs or dragon balls. 5 of them are the 5 eyes currency.
One aspect of dreams interests me regarding the mythos of The Nuclear Chaos and it has to do with one particular parallel people typically have with dreams. If you meet your someone in your dreams, the most logical conclusion is that they arent actually there, assuming you know that youre dreaming for the, even if its just for the sake of this example. That means that this person is a simulation based on your minds memories but you could also assume that this person is also YOU pretending to be this person for the sake of your dream maintaining continuity. What does this have to do with Azathoth? When we apply that dream logic to all of existence being Azathoths dream, wouldnt that mean WE ARE ALL AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN, AZATHOTH?
That makes sense. When we dream I believe that we take the memories we have of a certain person and combine it with our own experiences and fantasies/false realities of that person to push the dreams reality/continuity. We just have to scale it up to the macrocosm that is Azathoth and his dream
Also Azathoth isn’t confirmed to be dreaming up reality, it is never once stated in canonical works of Cthulu mythology. He is mentioned as being embodiment of Chaos and Demon Sultan, there is more evidence for Yagsathoth being the true ultimate God above Azathoth
An extreme oversimplification of Gnostic Christianity because the demiurge itself was created by Sophia who was the embodiment of wisdom, when she got too impatient to wait for the other spirits to help partake in creation the demiurge itself was a flawed design put Gnostic Christianity did pervert the demiurge which originates from the Hellenic traditions.
Lol, no I'm not asleep, it's just that when you have existed forever and ever and ever you can't really escape yourself because you're infinite then you have to hide yourself within yourself, you're all extensions of myself to help me forget because it's complete madness existing forever when you're the only one, you can't fathom the depths of madness that creates, so all of this is me, all of you are me, I'm not ignorant, dumb or blind it's just that I choose to try to lose myself within my own self within my own creation which is myself.... So basically this video is a part of myself trying to ReDiscover myself.... And this is me talking to myself with other aspects of myself.... Oh The madness of it all 😊
Dream good dreams. Sleep soundly. The correct thing to do when stirring from rest due to nightmares is to dream lucidly enough to alter it into a good dream.
I enjoy comparative religion and found the mentions of Hegel and especially Camus interesting in relation to the blind and deaf Lovecraftian God. Camus is interesting, but Nietzsche's madness could be an interesting topic for the channel in general. Or Franz Kafka!
Lovecraft's Azathoth was not such that the whole of reality is Azathoth's dream. That's the result of embellishments by non-contemporary writers-especially those of Chaosium for their Call of Cthulhu. The entire premise that Azathoth is dreaming the reality and that it will poof when he wakes is a non-Lovecraft attribution that began with a completely different character: Māna-Yood-Sushāī. Māna-Yood-Sushāī is NOT Azathoth, and I've no clue how his traits were applied to Azathoth in such a way that it became so uniformly accepted. I don't completely wanna blame Chaosium for this, but rest assured Lovecraft's Azathoth is a monster that can (and will someday) wake and begin his Feast. The other gods and the universe are his banquet, not his dream.
so technically when you realize you're dreaming you tend to pull yourself out, so us being aware of this would start to make the blind god aware of it and thus bring him closer to waking up? So we should not know this?
It’s illogical that our perceived universe or reality is born in chaos. Our reality is entirely ordered. Things move towards higher states of entropy not in the reverse. Creating the arrow of tune as well.
It's not universal among the Gnostics. Some sects thought that Yaldabaoth, Deimurge, or Samael did know what he was doing when he imprisoned us in this reality. He then created lieutenants called the Archons who are essentially his jailers-or at least that's what my research has said. I am not a professional at this, nor have I really been doing it that long.
@ no archons are different. Goetia are demons aka spawns or creations of the fallen angels either from halels fall the first fall or the fall of the days of yared (watchers)
Now the cults that killed themselves in mass are starting to make a little more sense. The demiurge trapped us here, archons ensure we dont try to leave. The cults found out that much....but what else

People should take shrooms adventures and tune in the spirit world it is wild.
Yes - yes it is
Azathoth wake up its time for college! Honestly that boy sometimes I do wonder... Azathoth!
Azathoth, please wake up already
Azathoth is partially based on the concept of a blackhole. That's as close as it gets to real.
The misspelling of Azathoth in the thumbnail is killing me with giggles.
Aza-thot is my new patron deity
It’s so odd that I made this observation just two days ago. The Gnostic Gospels place the biblical God as a “Blind Idiot God”. The first thing I thought of was the supreme cosmic horror of HP Lovecraft that created his universe.
Really great job Esoteric Guardian. You've sewn so much together here, like opening Schrodinger's box.
I always play a neutral human wizard in Nethack, the god for that role is Thoth. 😍
I'm not sure you understand how Schrodinger's box works
@@YearsOVDecay1 I was using the concept as a metaphor, understanding 'materializing' or solidifying. Isn't the cat inside the box non-material till someone sees? A probability, energy?
Has anybody noticed that the esoteric guardian arrived in our lives ....just at the right frequency a select of us Here can understand ❤
I mean that's obviously bs but whatever. Guess we're just throwing around "frequency" like ya'll are superhumans who sit on their asses all day trying to validate themselves with some crap. "Only gods can pick up on the wavelengths" okay buddy, you can turn off the computer. Got your god's little helper quota of the day. I remember back in my day we'd praise Jesus. I don't even believe that Jesus was the son of god in a way that made him special. Only evidence for that is a book made of largely outdated stories that don't lead nowhere. Hooo-eh, that's some stanky shit you fling'n there, jazz. At least it's funny.
the 'order' that holds the chaos together are the cycles, cycles of destruction and re-creation
I wonder if cooked to a nice medium rare if azathoth would be tasty and filling as a meal, and the rest of his family, they all feel like space seafood to me 🤤🤤🤤
lmao
Garlic and butter my guy
Everything you can imagine is real.
- Pablo Picasso
Even death will save you from the dreams.
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl
You can have encounters with these entities on DMT or high doses of mushrooms.
As someone who suffers from depression, I can relate.
Universe is only a word of what our science can not explain or even name...
Excellent Document
Whenever I have a very lucid dream, I hear the sound of flutes in the background.
Oh no, Yaldabaoth is pretty much aware of his doings.
Abraxas.
Came here to do this reference
I wanted to move, but in the nothingness i could be not moving or going light year fast that would make no diference
So when I was ''bored'' of being dead I ended asking, my voice sounded like a psycophony as i had no body... And the fact that right away I woke up, made feel sure that I was not alone, but with a counsiousness that had no percetible presence and did not answer with words but facts.
Waking up was its answer. I even answered myself when I look to my hands once awake
''Now this''
Since then I dont fear death and truly believe in reincarnation
hmmm...it remeber about abraxas metaphysical concepts as well...
Life is life no matter how big or small you are. So don't think about it, just live it !!!
Get a job hippie.
na na, na na na
Now that's what I call, literally what people should be doing in stead of trying to validate a fictional work as if it was real.
Attempt CHIM before it is too late!!!!
What is CHIM??
@@dumpsterjedi6148 CHIM is a concept from the Elder Scrolls. It’s what happens when someone becomes “cosmically” aware that they are an illusion but decide “whatever, I’m still an individual who is in control.” It’s cognitive dissonance being utilized as a plot device effectively.
This is like the headless god from Norse myth.
this brings to mind the idea of infinite cycles of power and what a transition to a new infinite cycle would look like, a unconscious scapegoat exploited to justify the ungodly decadence that manifests through the animal nature, only to have the justification be their damnation due to unconsciousness by nature not offering choice, taken into account the nature of god is jealous, an unconscious creation from god would be a dead man's trap where the dead man cant die
also spinozas idea of god fits well with azathoth
1000s of miles into the Amazon jungle lived with a tribe, took part in their ceremonies saw this dude
I constantly wonder recently if I’m just listening to notebooklm generated podcast
Great analysis, I've always loved Lovecraft since a very young age, I think I started reading him around 12 years old thanks to my father's library, and at almost 50 I still use his mythos as an analogy to our "reality".
Anyways, are you Secret Mind? I'm sure you are, besides the voice everything else aligns.. like the stars do lately, are the gods due to finally return?
If I wanted a lecture from ChatGPT I would've asked ChatGPT myself.
I love the question in quantum science : "does the room next to you exist when it isn't being observed by anything"?
Yes, yes it does. You're welcome.
It goes into the existential subconscious but is still there if you like that explanation.
I enjoy deeper dives in to Lovecraftian fiction, but kindly try to stay in reality, friends.
If Lovecraft's horrors were real, there would be nothing that would stop them from ruling our planet.
Have fun with it, but, kindly, don't forget that it's a fictional universe.
You are my light in this abyss of bullshit! My kingdom for someone who comprehends objective reality. Abstract thinkers wasting their efforts on this crap when they could be actually learning the science that's proven to exist in the natural world. THEN they could seperate that from their comprehension of fictional allegories. I want to read in the mountains of madness without pseudoscientists trying to explain how it's not fictional. If they used their eyes they might see that it's a freaking book. and an Old ass book too. I don't even like HP Lovecraft I just like his mythos in general. Guy was kinda shit tbh.
Perfect listening for a drab monday...
Old Azathoth is badass!
Ive had a thought like this when i was young. Around 8 or 9. Ive had thoughts we could just be a momentary thought. Time wouldn't effect something like that the way it does us. Ive since learned different through experience. Its something that is unexplainable.
azathot 💀
he references himself in our world cause it’s his own dream, so lovecrafts depiction is Azathoths dream reference or some shit idk
NO, the mandela people who had their universe destroyed say no.
Azathoth is like Shenron from dragon ball. They are like a kitsune, which has an orb. Azathoth is a old kitsune and has 9 orbs or dragon balls. 5 of them are the 5 eyes currency.
Ps the demiurge is the moon.
When you die, do not go into the light. It is a reincarnation trap.

The most redundant writing I've come across since ages...

YEA! 'STICK AROUND TO THE END.' YOU GOT IT.
So much repetition of the already established point... Gets very annoying
Azagthoth is an allegory for nuclear fission , its not that deep lol
Oh The madness of it all 😊
Well then why the hell did you give me this one
Dream good dreams. Sleep soundly. The correct thing to do when stirring from rest due to nightmares is to dream lucidly enough to alter it into a good dream.
We are all unique and connected like raindrops in the ocean from the ocean we rise to the ocean we go.
Oh Azzy... Wake up Azzy... So that I don't have to pay my f***king bills
I enjoy comparative religion and found the mentions of Hegel and especially Camus interesting in relation to the blind and deaf Lovecraftian God.
Camus is interesting, but Nietzsche's madness could be an interesting topic for the channel in general. Or Franz Kafka!
Appreciate it, thank you!
Marine spirit may be 😢😂😮
" Where's my goddamn Heart of Lorkhan, Hermaeus Mora?! "
- H.P Lovecraft idk
As a thought is us, the flute is the distactions and lies that that keep men from findin out their god
so technically when you realize you're dreaming you tend to pull yourself out, so us being aware of this would start to make the blind god aware of it and thus bring him closer to waking up? So we should not know this?
Why does this story sound familiar? The elder scrolls!
Brahma's day is when the universe exist so opposite of Azathoth.
It’s illogical that our perceived universe or reality is born in chaos. Our reality is entirely ordered. Things move towards higher states of entropy not in the reverse. Creating the arrow of tune as well.
Everything has a pattern. And patterns mean they can be solved with math. Sounds more like a computer program but definitely orderly as you said.
@ right he says azathoth is blind and unaware where as a programmer is the polar opposite of that
My dumbass thought the title said Azeroth, as in the world in World of Warcraft 😂
Row row row your boat
Gently down the steam
Merrily merrily merrily merrily
Life is but a dream
He does exist, and he is the god of the old testament.
Lol isn’t he just the Kabbalah’s yaldabaoth he’s called the blind god and created the material realm according to gnostics
samyal
It's not universal among the Gnostics. Some sects thought that Yaldabaoth, Deimurge, or Samael did know what he was doing when he imprisoned us in this reality. He then created lieutenants called the Archons who are essentially his jailers-or at least that's what my research has said. I am not a professional at this, nor have I really been doing it that long.
Kabbalists worship that force that has set up this realm
@danmorris5498 are archangels the same as archon? Or are Archons like the Dark entities in the Goetia?
@ no archons are different. Goetia are demons aka spawns or creations of the fallen angels either from halels fall the first fall or the fall of the days of yared (watchers)
Who created the beings that are playing the music that keeps him asleep?
makes as much sense as anything else I've heard.
I too have dabbled in psychedelics.
Was that some Timeghoul cover art @3:08?
Now the cults that killed themselves in mass are starting to make a little more sense. The demiurge trapped us here, archons ensure we dont try to leave. The cults found out that much....but what else
Az A Thoth /as a thought/ describes the Boltzmann brain, cognate with Vishnu /wish new/

If he wakes we're screwwwwwed.
Um... Yeah. It's just a name for the black hole that does nothing but devour anything that comes near it.
Black Holes also emit radiation. They probably do other things. You mean like this channel swallows my comments? Heyooooo. ye. Tuber hates my guts but the engagement got him lowkey bussin all over his shoggoth.
@ChimeraZone Everybody poops, even elder gods. Azathos is just gassy
So if azathoth is real, how long does he live? and why didn't he wake up?
Is it mortal or immortal?
Azathoth? He, nice try. I know Tzeench when I see him.
jokes on you
he is more real then most gods
yet he doesn't need to prove his existence
