That is what I picked up as well, that you could save it on a MicroSD card. I guess I'll find out once I've ordered mine - I especially love that you can record stuff live with the mic/line-in and get that into the mix!
I planned to make a demo of 150 sounds, but you beat me to it! Good work! But I notice you fixed it to a one-octave length. I want to test out the Max. Range of octaves too, just in case there are interesting sounds at high and low pitches. I discovered on the old Kaossilator that the top edge of the pad on d.84 creates an increasing feedback that just keeps getting louder and louder if you don't touch the pad again and don't change programs. There may be things like that in the new K2.
Also, most of us understand these aren't serious music instruments (they could be, if only improvisationally) but they are fun. And making music should be fun, something you enjoy. I have real synths and sometimes staring down at 50 knobs and faders gets to be a headache. This can go in my pocket on the bus and to coffee shops. Let's see you do that with a Gaia or Andromeda. -Bedroom Musician for 14 years. :)

Could I prgram a complete 3 -4 minute track on the Kaossilator2? I have keys in a home studio but am looking for new funky sounds for one of my Kids Cd Projects! I usually lay down a rhythm track ,bass keys etc - The sounds on this sound really funky .I want to be able to program a 3-4 minute rhythm bed - drums, bass ect Can it do it? Thks

They are not the same. I have the kaoss Pro, and after listening to this, it sounds like there are maybe less than 15 sounds that are the same. Some of the basses, and acoustic sounds sounded the same, but almost non of the leads were the same.
There ist no build-in sync function in the kaossilator 2. May you can use an beat detection app for mobil phones or the auto-bpm detection from the kaoss pad.
I bought a Microsampler to record every part individually of my kaossilator 1 but ofcourse you can do that with software aswell. I don't know anything about the recording possibilities of the Kaossilator 2 though.

There is no way to transmit a program into the Kaossilator 2. It outputs only sound. It inputs only sound from the microphone. There is no MIDI or other music programming language on it. What you can do is get sound-samples out of it and manipulate them in a music-editor. There ARE a few kaossilator songs like that. We recognize they were made with the help of an editor because the music changes too fast for live manual manipulation, and polyphony (many notes at once) is not possible.
You should just download the manuals for each machine from korg (dot) com, and check their table of sound programs to see which names are the same. Esgibtsie's excellent video also gives you the sound demo to compare things by ear. Click on a particular time-code in blue to jump to a particular category.
You can use the Korg Kaossilator 2 as a player for .wav files and you can play to it at the same time, but you can not use short samples and play them with the pad.
aorphia, no disrespect intended, but there are those of us that are physically unable to play an actual keyboard. that's why i bought one. i have cp. i've always been musically inclined but could not express it due to my limitations in mobility. so please don't ruin my excitement. i've wanted to 'play' music since i was 12.
For those of you who own a Kaossilator Pro or even the 1st generation Kaossilator neither the Kaossilator Pro + or this Kaossilator Pro 2 is worth an upgrade. That is of course unless you are willing to shell out $400 for the Pro + and $160 for this one for an upgrade of 50 sounds on the Pro + and after watching this I see maybe 20 max different on the K02. Keep in mind that all you are getting is an slightly updated sound library. The sampling function is as limited as ever.
The Korg Kaossilator is a synth. What you demand is the the Korg Kaoss Pad as a touch controlled effect unit - and yes, you can use any Instrument like a guitar with it. I think you will love it.
There is one little thing about it that kind of annoys me, like i mentioned in my review, you only have 8 beats in the banks, really not a lot of space for recording.
The Kaossilator is not comparable to a DAW. You can record loops (2Bars) on 2 different banks with endless overdubbing. But in the end you can play a loop while perform yet another sound and record this performance in the kaossilator on SD-cards.
I think you're fine for the drums and the basses, but the piano might sound a little clean. It won't sound like it's sampled and chopped, so that'll give a slightly different feel. You do have some other cool instruments, so if you get creative I'm sure you could make something work. I'm not sure if you can add record noise if you like that btw. If you're looking for a device under 300 dollars to make Lo Fi hiphop with, yeah I might go with this one (or the 2S, it only has 1 loop instead of 2, but you can easily export to software like Ableton and finish it on the PC which is pretty sweet, also better sound quality but the difference is very small). There isn't a lot of competition, let alone in this size. The next best thing would be a Akai or Roland sampler and those start at 500 usd I believe and they are a lot harder to use. This would be a good first step into music making as it's pretty intuitive.
How do you actually make music on these kaosilators track by track? I use keyboards & sonar for audio recording though I wish I knew how to step record on sonar. I'm very interested in these kaosilators, wish I knew how to use them, would love to have a go. The ORIGINAL Kaossilator "sounds" MUCH better than this. I'm not a Musician...but rather just like messing with the sounds. This one requires MOST of the movement for sound to be "taps" with very little change (if any). Whereas the Original has many more SLIDES. This has a short REC function for only near improvement. I got my "2" today at the Pawn shop. I will be able to trade it back in.....YEA :-)
One other thing.....with the Original Kaossilator you can use "anything" to touch the pad and it will work. The "2" will only work with the capacitance from your fingers. Oh...the ORIGINAL allows you to include more sound by placing more fingers/objects (3 or 4 max).
